We have two lovely daughters, so it will be great to see if we finally get a boy, or if the girl domination will continue at home!

Congrats Gabe! Better watch it. You'll end up like Ernesto and me. And my first three are girls. Boy finally came on the fourth. (My brother, who has five girls asked "Whose the father?") Had to have another just to make it look like we weren't just going until we had a boy (which we weren't). |

For example, yesterday's bike ride was longer than I had anticipated (4:00) and with a lot more climbing (5K+ ft plus the challenge with my gears). However, I was able to push myself comfortably through most of the ride and also feel like I'm recovering well from such efforts. Today I was able to run early in the morning without being sore or totally exhausted! I also second Joyce, Samy, Jen, Mitch's and the others' comments about the huge value that it is having the encouragement and support from this great group!  I could not think what it would be like to have to push myself through the loads of training I have to go through for my IM, without being able to draw on your support! (sometimes it's overwhelming just to look at the IM plan) So thank you all for that (and to Jackie for proposing the challenge for January, maybe we could extend it through the end of April, just in time for my tapper for IM  Finally, I totally agree with Mitch's previous comment about the importance of not letting our passion for triathlon/sports, affect the quality time we should devote to our family life/loved ones, and kuddos for your decision to skip the workout and have lunch with your wife on that particular day! He isn't using the zones that BT calculates, he is using whatever percentage the workout is times the 144 that u tested at, which it sounds like the whole 60 minutes, which isn't what he uses in his plan. |

I did follow his test which calls for metering my hear rate for the 30 minute test. First 10 minutes was warm up 30 intense minutes then cool down. The rate came out to 144. So if he asks in a training session to go at 68%-73% do I take 68% of 144? |

Master 1780![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Boynton Beach, FL | Subject: RE: Ernesto's group (third season) - CLOSEDHave a somewhat unconventional training question. Up to now, I have been walking a set time period after every mile. Started with 1:30 secs, and now down to 30 secs between miles. During this challenge, I tried (and succeded) running the whole 3 miles straight. However, when I push myself, I can run at a faster pace when resting between miles, even taking into account the walking time. For example, compare my runs from Dec 29 vs Jan 7 (both runs where I decided to push myself). On Dec 29 (garmin data in the logs), 1 mile run, 30 sec walk - repeat 3 times: 3.09 miles at a pace of 9:23/mile. This pace includes three 30 sec. walks. On Jan 7, 3 miles straight at a pace of 9:31/mile. Also, on the run/walk, I finished "fresher". So the way I see it, I can do 3 things: 1) Keep resting 30 secs between miles. 2) Eliminate the resting and just run straight. 3) Eliminate the resting on my short runs (3 miles for now), and keep them for the long runs (4 miles planning to go to 5 in the next couple of weeks) I am planning ti do sprint distances for my first 2-3 races, with my first race Feb 26, and I guess my idea is to do whatever will lead me to have the faster time at the race. PS: I am planning to buy the Maffetone book, but first wanted to make sure I had a decent base for training |

As for the effects of the training. Hard to say right now. I completed the last 9 days and still feel great. Scott and I will do "mental toughness" on the trainer tomorrow. I will try to get it completed before he gets home but that might be pushing it. Since the pool is closed figured it a good time to get my hair done.. (LOL... You're pegged to the top and that will not give you enough base. Also, February for a first race is too soon.
