Making final prep. for Long Beach Mar. sunday. Its been a tough last 3 weeks. My father in-law passed and my Mother in-law passed yesterday. Trying to figure out how to juggle this. I know they would want me to run so I am.

Happy Friday everyone.

Today is the first day I have felt 100percent healthy in about 4 months.

The legs, abs, shoulders, lats and arms are tired from all the s/b/r training but it's a good kind of sore.  It's not the I can't even walk how am I going to get to the start line in November feeling.  Training miles thru the pain has been hard.

I've not wanted to bend the group downwards, but it's good to have some swagger again.

Kind Regards,
Mark

Hey everybody sorry I have been missing.

Pam - you can usually get into IMAZ online but you need to be ready as soon as online opens. It usually only lasts a short time. Like sometimes less than an hour. Sometimes 1/2 day.

I want Lena to come to IMAZ so we can get a Sherpa report like that!!! Kathy - you wrote a great RR.

I am doing the Olympic relay at the USOpen triathlon in Dallas on Sunday. Game on!

Anybody else racing this weekend?

Kona next weekend. -- our Superbowl+ World Series+Stanley Cup. All rolled into one.

Hi Everyone!

Sorry for being MIA.  This move is going to kill me and I still have another 3 weeks till we officially move.

Good luck with the marathon Pam!

I was really thinking of doing IMAZ next year as that will give me some time to relax before I have to start training again, when boom I hurt myself.  What I thought was a sprained ankle is now believed to be a stress fracture (ankle not swollen and I have full range of motion)  I had a stress fracture in my foot before and yes, it feels the same.  I really do believe the body is trying to tell me to take it easy, except I have a HM in a month which I was going to take it easy anyway.

At least all of this is happening to me now and not this summer.  Sigh............. I will get through all this and you get to hear me whine.

Fit&CTC remember in the long term it is usaully better to eat an entry fee than to train through an injury if its bad.

Finish line   I finished the Long Beach Marathon today. I was only able to make my easiest goal which was a Boston quail. time. I thought that would be easy but not today. The 1 mile walk back to the hotel which took 40mins. I decided I am either a bad coach or I am just not genetically able to go sub. 3hrs. I changed how I trained, race nutr., strategy, lighter shoes, etc.

Woke up at 4:50 had a bannana, and got ready. Drank some Infinit and jogged the mile to start area. Stretched and talked to some friends that were going to be around the course to help me. Drank a Gatorade Pre. Started up towards the front and was able to run my pace from the start with no problems. Exchanged bottles and got sunglasses at mile 6. At mile ten I had been within 5sec of my goal all except one mile that was mainly down hill. Had a tough mile after 12 but talked myself through. Crossed 13.1 at 1:29 something. exchanged bottles at mile 14. Started to struggle again around 17-18. Was still on pace until after mile 19. There was nobody around me. I then started passing people but I was slowing. Then around mile 22 I gave my friends my garmin hoping I could relax and just run. It helped during training. I then tried to regather myself down the hill at mile 23 when the 3:05 pacer came by. My plan was to start my final push at that point but I could only stay with him for 150m then I hit the wall. No clue how slow I was going but when we meet back up with the 1/2 walkers I wasn't passing them very fast. Just before the finish I see my friends again and they let me know if I can get going I can go sub. 3:10. So the last 300-400m I summon everything I had, it helps its down hill also, and finish just under 3:10. Never would have guest at the beggining of the race I would have to do that. Most I have ever trained and only time I have done a marathon training. Frustrating to get 6min. slower than my pr. I also felt as bad as I did after my ironman and the worst I have felt after a marathon.

Update  End up 44th o/a  8th age 3:09.21

Now to switch gears next week and get ready for the Mission inn 5K and then i am running a relay reverse tri 5K. They hope to get an 18min out of me. We will see how quick these legs can recover.

Phil - you are amazing. I like Briana will take your 3:10 ANY day. Wow! Great job.

We did make the podium. Thanks Briana. Third place. Thanks to Rays great bike and Walts awesome run. My swim was good for me but that's not saying much.

The young guys in 1 and 2 and certainly the YOUNG flat bellies behind us were shocked. Open mouthed, drop jawed shocked that some dudes their dads age were with them. I even poked one particularly surprised dude when I told him I was older than his dad. Freaked him out!!! He said he was going to go call his dad and tell him to get off his . No more excuses.

First through third were separated by 1 minute 38 seconds. If.... If.... If....

The three of us have said that all week - we could have won that thing. If you have never done a relay of a shorter race - you should. But beware - you will feel obligated to go as HARD as you possibly can on your leg. I thought I was going to puke in the water and then running up the hill and up to T1. I then had to lay down.

That's exactly how I felt when I did my relay.  I didn't want to be the "leg" that cost us the placement.  Talk about pressure.  But fun, fun, fun!!!

The long lost checking in... I am in the process of making space on the mantle for the IMAZ DFL trophy...

After the bike crash that took me out of The Austin Tri Relay, I thought I had the training coming along...yeah, right! Last Monday, I woke up at 4am with a knife in my back...I hoped it was only a muscle pull, but a trip to the ER confirmed a 6mm kidney stone, something I have never before experienced and would wish only upon my worst enemy. So for the past 8 days, it has been nothing but the couch or lounger, lots of water and pain pills.

Just for the record, IMAZ online last year closed in 16 minutes, IMFL in 10.

Watch out there, folks! I am picking up the cones from the run course...

Phil, great job on your race! You may feel disappointed as you didn't get the time you wanted but remember you made it to the start line and that is half the battle.

Congratuions Bryan on your 3rd place finish. What a great feeling that must have been.

Patrick, I am sorry to hear about your kidney stones. Hope you can pass them soon.

Thanks everyone.

I love that pressure of a team. It helps me preform better.

Kidney stones sorry to hear about that. I hear they hurt really bad.

My palpitations were back on tues/wed. so I went to the hospital. First time they
every were there two days in a row. In the ER they decided its PVC which are
non lethal and they say to keep exercising. Can be caused by stress, stimulants,
alcohol, etc. Got out thurs and then went back in this morning because the palpitations
hurt this time and were different. Went to my GP and an now for some reason,
he’s never mentioned it before, he thinks i am having esophageal spasms caused
by low magnesium or acid reflux. I really liked my GP but I feel like he felt
he need to give me a reason and just came up with something. I think his
practice has gotten to big. Going back to the Cardiologist next week. Going to talk to him about it.

Hey guys!

KTC, thinking IMAZ next year.  So awesome!!  Good luck with the move.  Never fun.

Phil, great job on the Marathon.  You are so hard on yourself. What a feat. I think you are the one struggling with stones.  Lotsa water!!

LRR, glad to hear you ar racing again.  Sounds like you were in a relay.  Would love to do one of those.  I also would love to do the swim.

Can't remember who had the palpitations.  Fit?  Not sure how to look back when I am in the middle op a posting. But I agree, talk to your cardio person.  Often docs feel they need to pull out a diagnosis which may include many unecessary tests and unecessary set backs.

I am in off sesaon.  I have been doing hot yoga for 2 weeks.  WOW!!  Never sweat so much in my life. Trying to stretch out these old bones.  Also focusing on strength.  Maybe if I were stronger my heart wouldn't work so hard and I could go faster. Hoping to do Mussel man HIM this July.  It's in the Fingerlakes upstate NY.  I heard it is a lovely event.

I also lost my mother in law this past week so training at all has been difficult.  Went out for a ride for the  first time in a while and felt I lost alot.  A little discouraging as I am going to be forced to go on the trainer pretty soon since the cold is coming.  We are having a nice warm spell right now. Cool  Rode 10, ran 1.5 and rode another 10 home. Felt wiped and I was slow. Oh well, tomorrow is another day!!

Hi to

Fat 2 Tri! Hope you are well and any one else I may have missed.

Warmly,

Ann sorry for your loss. Just get in what you can and try not to worry about it. Thats what I tried to do. You will feel tired just from all the stress too so you probably didn't lose as much as you think from the missed time. Just do each workout the best you can and it will all come back in time.

Thanks Phil.  I went out for a run today and it was equally miserable.  I have also been on prednisone and 2 different antibiotics and i think they are messing me up also.  I had a 3 week headache/sinus infection.  Also a limiter.  My muscles are so sensitive to any excertion.  I think it is a side effect of the antibiotic.  I have only 2 pills left and I really don't want to take them.

Be well youirself.  You are awesome!!

Today is moving out day!  Tomorrow is moving in day and I will be missing it as I will be in New Orleans for a company meeting.  Finally we are getting somewhere!

The stress fracture is feeling better, haven't been running on it for 3 weeks and I can't wait to get back out there.  Granted I have been biking and swimming but that was more of just needing to move as I really haven't put any effort into it.  Ready to start training again, for what???? Need to come up with races for next year.

Hope everyone is feeling better or staying healthy!
