kkcbelle - 2012-04-21 3:49 PM Some of us know SUZY had a great day... Dish, girl, dish!!!!!

Well, I did do a whole lot of cooking for a party we're having tomorrow night so I suppose that could be considered a great day! Ok, that's probably not what you're talking about.

I did the American Cancer Society 10k race today and won OA female with a time of 46:04. I haven't won a race since 2007 so it was kind of cool.   It was another blind event and I went in with two goals 1) not to start out too hard (epic fail!) and to have a real kick at the end (big success).  I also wanted to break my best 2011 10K time of 46:38, but that would be the surprise at the chute.

I started in front with all men which was a little weird and no female ever passed me.  I saw a couple at the 3m+ turn-around, but the closest was about 1' behind me.  I just kept pushing and never looked back.  Crazy really.

The timing company messed up and some 5k'er was declared the female winner with a 5:35 pace.  I really didn't care since I knew I won, but men are fragile; the first and second place dudes didn't like it one bit.  In the final posted results they lost to a phantom girl.

Interesting.  I don't know him personally, but I read his last RR where he was waffling on whether to do the Oly or a sprint because he didn't think he was in good enough shape to give it his all during that Oly.  I was pretty stunned given the fact he wins races left and right.  I had a similar feeling today.  I was already missing my MILs second birthday party to do this race which I felt bad about  and then I started thinking I wasn't ready to give it all I had.  I thought of that race report, put on a happy face and off I went.  I'm glad I did.  I PMed him afterwards to thank him for that report.  I guess it had a positive impact on him too.

Got a decent amount of sleep last night (and an OK from my wife) so I decided to drop in on a local  5k today.  Ended up w/ a new PR.

Fun with the Fuzz 5k

While writing up the report, I noticed I'd never completed the report from a 15k I did at the end of last month.... also a PR.

Birch Bay Road Race - 15k

Sadly, I was not 1st OA Female in either of these races.  Great Job Suzy!!

I had a great training day today, weather was beautiful, sunny and warm but humid too (92% and 28 celcius still this evening).

This morning I met up with an ocean swimming group and we swam for an hour around the bay including lots of deep water starts and race pace swims, probably about 2km or more.

This afternoon I did my long run, 21.1 km in 2 hours 15, all at a nice easy pace. The only problem I had was that I wore some old shorts and they started really chafing after the first hour so the second half of the run was very uncomfortable! All in all a nice Sunday!

I envy your ability to be able to get into the ocean and swim like it's no big deal!  I want that!!!

Glad it was a great day.

Alright, I'm here!  I haven't done my race report yet, so I'll give a quick overview.

That sub-30 goal has been laid to rest.  Even though I knew I could do it, it used to be such an important goal when I started running that I needed to actually do it.  Does that make sense.

As for crushing it?  27:10.  Almost 3 minutes off my personal best.

Very happy with that number.  (To be honest it could be a second or two faster, but I forgot to stop my garmin when I crossed the finish line.  27:10 was the point in my garmin log where my pace plummeted, so I'm going with that.)

It hurt.  My average heart rate throughout the race was higher then what I usually see as a maximum heart rate, even during speedwork.  I stopped and walked a couple times for about 10 seconds each.  I'm not happy about that, but I just could not hold on.  I still have a bit to learn about pacing.  I considered a bit of an experiment though.  Truthfully, I wanted to see just how hard I could push myself.  I guess pacing even matters in this short a race...

Another cool thing, I finished as the third or fourth woman.  Now, it was a small race, and obviously none of the really fast people did the 5K.  I think I was actually third, but didn't get recognized for it.  I'm completely certain that I finished before the woman that did take the third place prize.  We leapfrogged a couple times, but I made very sure that I was in front of her at the end.  Maybe she was picking it up for a friend or something?

Anyways, I didn't say anything.  I'm not the scene causing type.  It was a bit disappointing though, because I'm not fast enough that I would normally place even in my age group, so that would have been cool.  I'm waiting to see what the results say.  (It wasn't chip timed, but gun timed and they were taking down people's numbers as they crossed the finish line.)

I don't think I'll do another 5K that soon.  Man, that hurt.

Hey everyone. Race went okay yesterday. Ended up going 2:30:32 which was a huge disappointment. Missed my goal by 32 seconds. I'm posting from my phone and getting ready for the 14 hour ride home. I'll try to write up a RR tonight or tomorrow.

Thanks.

Not chip timed.  It was gun timed.  A fairly small event.  They were taking down numbers as people crossed the finish line and I'm sure I crossed before her.  There's certainly room for human error.

I've let go of it now.  Yesterday I was kind of stewing it, and going over it in my head.  Now that I've written about it and had my small moment of complaining, I'm not so bothered.

Training update:

Ok, here's the real update.  We've been home for a couple days now and things are going well.  The kids love the new guy and we're pretty fond of him too.  I'm spending a lot of time with the older kids so Bev and Nicholas can rest a bit.  Today we were looking at bigger vehicles, doing everything I can to avoid a van....

and the pics.....

The kids' first meeting

A little post-partum warm up

I just copied these over from the kids' blog.  We have hundreds more pictures, but frankly I'm too tired/lazy to resize them from the card.

Thanks for all of the well wishes.

SUCH a gorgeous baby!!!  Congrats to all!!

Sounds like everyone had a great weekend with lots of PR's!  Go MG!

Back from SoCal Ragnar.  We had a great time and enjoyed our anniversary.  It was over a hundred degrees and 60% humidity the first run but after that the weather was beautiful.  I ran a 42:19 10k on my last leg which would have been a PR for me if it was a 10k race .  My legs were roughly 5, 5 and 6.21 so not high volume but I got some good tempo work.

It was my sister's first race ever and she rocked it!  My wife and the rest of the team ran great and had fun (minus the first leg in the heat).  Just checking in.

Alright, so I finished top 10 in the AG for the Seal Beach 5K.  I was a bit surprised because I wasn't really pushing.  I ran a pretty causal 7:07 pace just running with a couple friends from my club.  Lesson learned.

Chet, that is some serious speed! Especially in those hot conditions! You are FAST!! Great job!

Congrats Scott and Chet.   Thanks for checking in!  We had a lot of very successful racers this weekends.  Lots of RR's should be coming our way!
