Nice Job Quincy!  I was there volunteering as a bike handler and then went up to watch people finish.  I thought I heard your name (not all that common, so I imagine it was you) called out.  Congratulations! - a very inspirational day all around.

That is soo funny cause I had the same reaction as Sarah and I'm not stalking you either. I was just impressed. I thought man our fearless leader is even more of a bad a** momma than I realized- hehe.

I now have career envy- hehe. I love what I do, but becoming a pilot is one of those careers I'd love having. There's a few things that if I had the time and money I'd do just do to do and being a pilot is definitely one of them. I'd also love to be a destination photographer, a high end wedding and event planner, owner of a bridal salon, Top Gun instructor and many others- lol. I need about ten lifetimes to try all the careers that really fascinate me-lol.

I know that some of you don't log all your workouts, so the numbers are not quite accurate. I thought this might be motivating to see, but it seems like since I've been doing this the numbers have been going down. Should I continue, or would y'all rather not see these?

Quincy - I'm in awe like many others. Awesome job out there and how cool to do an IM with your DH! Simply awesome.Sarah - keep posting the numbers. Not sure if it will change my zero for swimming. If you find my swimming mojo, send it back :-). Unfortunately, I think I'm losing my biking mojo too as I approach trainer season:-(.

Mike, thank you, it was amazing to do the race with DH!

And, FYI, your swimming mojo is in the pool. All you have to do is jump in for a few moments and it will come back to you. Trust me on this.

Thanks Tom. it's weird, I didn't get better looking or wake up with a better job. I am who I thought I was, haha. Except now I can S/B/R further than I ever could. And that's ok by me.

And he really can make a batch of blue crystal. He even made his daughters break it up. He seems like a nice guy, but...hmmm...kinda scary!

I am new to BT.  DH (userid KWDreamun) joined BT around Feb and then got in a mentoring group in Apr.  This Sunday, we kept checking the race results for three people in his group (2 had an HIM and one had an IM) and I started whining saying that I wanted to be part of a group.  We just found this group and I was only a few posts in when I realized that the group would be so wonderful to join.   (You are hilariously funny, you reference movies and Seinfeld, and you like to drink wine.  You are my people.

We contacted Dave and was told that I could join this group.   Yea!!!!!  I know I’m late to the party and I’m going to spend time this weekend going thru the pages to find out about everyone.  But I’ll give you my bio so you can all see if you want me in the group.

NAME:  Pink Socks & Pam.  I’m called lots of other things too and many are not flattering but are definitely true.

DESCRIPTION:  50 years old, 5’ 4”, very happily married to a future IM, 14 y.o. son who loves baseball, systems analyst, began running 3 years ago, newbie to biking, ok swimmer, recently diagnosed with osteoporosis so attempting upper body strengthening and am pathetic, a Christian but unfortunately can let fly with some words, long-winded when talking and writing, lousy speller, live in Florida, clumsy, never acquired a taste for beer but love wine (and it doesn’t have to be good wine either), love to read race reports so much that son calls me a stalker, avid reader but most are audio books because of time.

STORY: Pink Socks is my way of remembering why I began running.  I watched my son’s middle school cross country team wear pink socks in memory of the coach’s wife.  When coach asked the kids and parents to participate in a breast cancer marathon, HM, or marathon relay, in Brenda’s memory, I internally scoffed because I couldn’t do that.  But the idea went into my sub-con and soon I decided to walk the half.  I adopted the alter ego of Pink and began training. I later began running and when I finished the HM, I was hooked!  Three years later, I’m happier and healthier.  I didn’t realize that I had been depressed for some time; I was one of those women that lost me while working and raising a family.  Now I’m back to being me.

I felt like a poser when I began.  Now I almost think of myself as a runner but never want to be a “purist” like I still occasionally encouter.  I am not fast and I will walk (or crawl) whenever needed; I have more intent than skill.  I have now completed 10 HM, 3 marathons, and an 8-hour run where I got 35.96 miles.  I’m Half Fanatic 553 and hope to possibly qualify for Marathon Maniacs this winter.

DH began training for tris at the beginning of the year and I’m so happy for him because he didn’t even know how to swim when he started; he has come a long way!  I mentioned one day this summer that I would like to get a bike and he bought me one immediately.  A beautiful Scott bike!  Poor bike tho, it didn’t realize what a klutz was going to be riding it.  I wrecked 4 times within a few weeks and had a major breakdown after the last one.  (Ok, I guess I better be honest with you up front.  After the 4th wreck, I put regular pedals on my bike.  That was a month ago and I don’t know when I’ll take them off.  Am I kicked out of the group now?)  Since I’ve gotten the little girl pedals installed, I haven’t fallen and have actually enjoyed myself.   My bike’s name is Bronco.

CURRENT TRAINING:   My running decreases during the summer heat.  I’ve gotten back into training for a 50k in Dec.  I have my first tri, a sprint, at the end of October.  I’m not sure if you can call what I’m doing training because I’m so awful on the bike.  My swimming, well, I’m not sure if it’s competent for tris but I feel like I won’t drown.  For years, sporadic swimming was my ONLY exercise and I mixed up the strokes to work different body parts.  Now I’m trying to learn proper technique but it’s hard to undo 40 years of bad habits.

2012/EARLY 2013 RACES:   A local HM next weekend as a training run (still recovering from a bronchial infection), first timer tri practice Sep 29, first tri Oct 27, Tallahassee 50K in Dec, a possible 12-hour in Jan 2013, and Tallahassee Marathon in Feb 2013.  Depending on my Oct 27 tri, I’m planning another sprint tri in April 2013.

GOALS :  For the Fall/Winter Season, finish my first tri.  Then concentrate on the slow and easy races thru Feb while learning to ride the bike like a big girl.  Begin tri training after the Feb races.  One day, I might like to do an OLY and possibly one day a HIM.  I must confess, I don’t think I’ll ever go for an IM.  Often I give in to my Type A tendencies but I’m really trying to focus on fun and health instead of PRs; I need lots of reminders tho.

Ok, so I’m laid it all out there – warts and all.  I look forward to getting to know everyone.

Holy crap pinksockspam, welcome to the group. We like crazy pants people like you. If you like to swim naked in freezing cold fjords and drink like a viking before races and generally act like a doofus, this group is for you.

I like your warts. Type A tendencies are really ok. We get it. I barely can ride my bike like a big girl, so that's ok. Foul mouthed Christian, no beer, wine loving, race report stalking works up in here as far as I can tell. Basically, you're all good.

Hey Mystery Tourists...I like her, can we keep her???

PinkSocksPam has gotta pass the test first.

You are faced with the circumstance pictured below.

Do you...

a. Promptly remind everyone of the obvious germ catastrophe going on. <--- BOOO!

b. Quietly refrain from dipping your chip into the bowl and eat your chip dry. <--- LAME!

c. Dip, dip, and dip again. <--- THIS ONE!

PinkSocksPam has gotta pass the test first.

You are faced with the circumstance pictured below.

Do you...

a. Promptly remind everyone of the obvious germ catastrophe going on.

b. Quietly refrain from dipping your chip into the bowl and eat your chip dry.

c. Dip, dip, and dip again.

So it's me, TJ and a picture of crackers being dipped in some sort of germy communal bowl.

I.E. we have a quorum
