Simone, glad to hear you made it thru and RFP the 10k. Things like that will make us stronger.

KC hope everything works out for you soon. Hang in there!

Totally agree about lifting weight at home. If I can I will otherwise I try to do them while I am at gym to swim. I have a hard time driving 30 minutes to just lift weights when I can do most of it at home. Swimming is a different story and somehow I can get that done.

Has anyone else been keeping track on where WTC is looking for a new Ironman race venue for 2014 - 2018? So far I have heard Asheville, NC, Hilton Head, SC and now Myrtle Beach, SC are planning on putting their hats into the bidding process. Appearantly WTC is looking to have a race in Sept somewhere between Alabama to Virginia. I am wondering how this will effect Louisville.

- No kangaroos here but I've been almost run down by whitetail deer.

- My marathon is Saturday.  But frankly, it's already accomplished what I wanted.  The training has made me MUCH faster and able to run far longer.  It was all about setting the stage for a better run at IM Moo and I think we've done that.   Even short-course stuff is far faster than last fall even.  All good.  The run Saturday is just to let off the steam. Then we focus on building volume on the bike and swim and maintaining run fitness.  I am so excited about IM Moo I could pee my pants.

- IT band and I are on friendly terms, but not always true. 2010 post a half IM running, it flared.  I spent 6 weeks working on my swim and light biking.  Let it cool whatever you do.  Also, as someone said, foam rollers should become your best friend.  Yoga poses help too.  Stretch after every workout to set yourself up for the next one.  Ice, compression, elevation at night.  All good.  But mostly let it calm down or it will side line you for a good while.

- Strength training, so good to hear you all are getting into it.  Absolutely one of the best things I did for myself.  I have a machine but will give it to my son in law when his house is done next month.  I h ave a set of k bells and when I can use them outdoors, I am all set.  I go to the gym during the winter to use theirs.  Great aerobic to anaerobic workout plus strength.

- Glad everyone at Boston is OK.  What absolute a$$holes they were/are.  Finish lines will never be the same.  But we will always strive to cross the damn things no matter what they put in our way.

krazytallchick - 2013-04-24 9:30 AM Greeting from the beach! This is my last week of goofing off, Monday IMAZ training starts. I think I am ready to get my training routine back in order, not sure the mind is in it or not. Brought the wetsuit to swim in the gulf to make sure I got the right size and boy is 68 -70 degree water is COLD!!! I will attempt it again today as I am right now only swimming for about 10 minutes. Been running when I am not freezing in the water. Also I leaned that I don't like swimming in salt water. Even though I didn't swallow any water my mouth was full of salt.

On Monday I learned in our company weekly newsletter that I have a meeting to attend at our home office on Nov 13 to the 15th. iMAZ is on Nov 17th and was planning on leaving on the 13th, and I even put in my vacation request last Nov, but I also knew my company doesn't allow anyone to miss these meetings unless you are in the hospital sick, or a death in the family. Last Oct I tired missing a day due to us moving and was told that was not an excusable reason and I had to be at the meeting. Lets just say I was freaking out till my boss emailed me telling me I was excused. Thank goodness!!!!

Enjoy your last week goofing off!  Cherish every last second, haha!  I actually prefer salt water/ocean OWS's!  I feel like the water is cleaner b/c of all the currents, waves, etc.

Thank goodness you have a cool boss and they excused you from your meeting so it doesn't interfere with IMAZ!

Murphy's Law strikes again! Long but funny. And 100% true.

So I have been running with the local running club on the last couple Saturdays. Turns out a few of them are triathletes which led to setting up a ride this morning at 5:15am.  Got to the meet, pumped the tires, put on the bike lights and we're off. Only, I hadn't changed my watch to record speed not run pace. About 100 yards into the ride I realized I forgot to turn on the tail light. When I reached to turn it on, I knocked it off my saddle bag.  The others didn't know so they took off.  I caught them without putting it on because they got stopped at a traffic light (400 yards into the ride). We go a bit and I tried to put it on and dropped it. Sigh. Stopped to get it and almost caught back up again before I dropped it again. (1 mile in)

We are now to a long down hill followed by a decent flat so I went into aero to catch up and tried to adjust my clip on bars a bit, and of course I hit the front light hard enough to knock it off the mount so it goes flying. (2 miles in) One of the guys recognized I was having a bad day and hung back with me while the rest of the group were clueless and rolled on.When I go to put it back on the light is broken so it just BARELY hangs on the mount and turns off every time I hit a bump. I manage about 2 more miles before I hit a bump on a bridge and it goes flying again. Screw it I said, I'll make due. (6 miles in

The guy with me had a flashing LED tail light and every time he got in front of me I was totally blind. We roll on for a little bit with no issue, just blindness and fear from not being able to see the ground more than 5 feet in front of me. We ended up stopping short of the route turnaround hoping to catch up with them on the way back which we did, sort of (keep reading).

On the way back things were pretty uneventful for a few miles until we crossed the bridge going back and my front tire goes flat. When I'm trying to stop and unclip my right foot it won't unclip. I about crash just trying to get my stopping foot out of the pedal. My cleat had come loose on the shoe and was just sliding back and forth.  It's then I realize that I never put the new tube I bought a couple weeks ago in my saddle bag (it's still in the car).  I figured I only had to make it about 4 miles so I charged up the tire with a co2 and off we went.

This is where the group catches us. I continue on about another 1/2 mile before the front goes flat again.  My buddy offers to fix it for me but ends up breaking his 2 tire levers and wasting a full co2 because he forgot to open the valve on the tube. Luckily he had a cartridge and we got it fixed up right about the time it started raining. At least by this point the sun is up enough for me to see.

When I finally got back to my car my bike shoes were filled with water from the tire spray of the guy helping me and the guy that invited me to the ride who had gone ahead and came back. They rode in front of me and I had to ride between them to keep the water off my face but in doing so I had a steady spray of water directly on my legs and feet.

In the end, I laughed at all the misfortune.

Pierce that ride sounds like an absolute nightmare.  That is crazy riding in the dark.  I know some who do it but for me it is a little risky haha. Plus how can any of the vehicles honking at me see them flipping them off it is dark out?

Not too funny when you hit them with your car though, they are cute and all, but a complete menace to motorists. I've only ever hit one, scared the absolute cr*p out of me. I was only going slow cause it was dark and I was driving through a forested area which was renouned for roos bounding along the road, any faster and he would have given me a lap dance!

If anyone is looking for a good swim drill workout check this out - I did it this morning:

http://triathlon.competitor.com/2012/04/training/quick-set-friday-drill-it_52244

This Quick Set Friday on Triathlete Magazine is pretty good and worth a look at it if you want to add some new swim workouts.

Had an interesting evening since I was talking with my son while he was playing Xbox and fell asleep on his bed and woke up at 10pm.  I talked myself out of my ride then talked myself into it haha.  Got my 1 hour Trainer Road ride in and finished at 11:45pm.  Pretty happy I decided to ride.

Good luck to Scott tomorrow at the Illinois Marathon!

Hi Team.

Just wanted to say hi. I  have spent the last four days playing golf. I had some friends in for a few days from out of town to play some golf and play in a Pro Am with me. They all left today. I got a few workouts in but the good news is this past week was a taper week. I am ready to get back to it tomorrow morning with a nice swim.

I hope everyone is well.

Have a great safe week everyone.

KC - glad things are going better for you!

Well gang, I am off to Port Macquarie tomorrow. I am hoping to fit in a 10 km run first thing before we head off. We will be gone for a fortnight, so I hope to come home a few kilos lighter (and familiar with the run course) and an officially registered Ironman competitor for next year! :D I'm a little nervous about volunteering (cause I don't want to screw anything up!) but also excited. I will try and post a message when I know I'm officially signed up for IMOZ 2014.

Hope you all have a glorious couple of weeks. It's getting cold here, so you guys should be starting to get warmer weather!

First race of the year on Saturday. 5k and a smaller one. Finished in around 18:53 8th overall and 2nd in my age group so that was pretty neat.

Besides the swim (pool, 3 to a lane) I like my results.  Nice bike course, XC 5K run.  I went to college at the university that it was at.  Nice to be back there after 18 years!  A bartender that I met the night before says to me

T-roy: "Back in 1991, graduated in 1996"

BT: " I was born in 1991"

Simone you really make me do some work while reading your posts - what the hell is a fortnight haha?  Good luck registering and nothing to be nervous about!  Just have fun and give everyone as much support as you can and it will be much appreciated.  Looking back I think I was more nervous and scared walking up to that registration table after waiting in line for a couple hours than actually waiting in the water for the race!

It is with a heavy heart that I am not able to volunteer at Lake Placid.  Frown  I have already let the lead volunteer know.  With us just living on my income and savings we can't afford to spend more money on a trip to volunteer.  Deborah I may not be able to watch you cross that finish line in person but I will be watching you on the computer and cheering you on.

IMAZ training started yesterday, perhaps a big mistake to have started right after coming back from vacation.  I have been staring at my workouts and wondering how in the world will I get those workouts done as they look like I will be putting in a lot of training hours.  Then I looked at the total number of hours for the week and it is only 10.  Duh....
