I am still training....kids just keep me too busy to be online as much as I prefer, and for some reason they don't let me sleep at night either.  Ugh!  Somehow I keep working out.  I guess since it's my only 'break' in the day.  Running a 5-mile trail run on Sunday.  Roller derby update in my log....

I've decided to do a tri on December 2, so yes, I am still training. I figure it'll give me good cold weather practice for next September in Europe.

Yup, still training although my focus has changed for now. Have finally admitted to myself that I'll never lose this weight on my own, so I signed up for Weight Watchers yesterday. Losing 30 lbs will go a long way towards improving my triathlon times next year, not to mention the impact of improved nutrition.

Instead of swim/bike/run training, I'm moving to the elliptical and treadmill for some HR Zone training. Then it will be "the winter of the run"; I'll probably find one of the 1/2 Mary training programs and really work to improve my speed and my endurance.

I bought some books cheap on Amazon to help me. I finally got the Total Immersion swimming one and a book about training plans for Half Iron and Iron distance events. I have to muck through the first three chapters just to get all the acronyms and abbreviations down. Then it seems pretty cool....It doesn't mention holding Aaron's hand in spinning class though....."Just a city boy, born and raised in South Detroit......."

Shortly after I posted that on Friday afternoon I was looking up the races in Ohio next summer to start to make a plan for that.  So as I left work, I was pretty happy and feeling good, looking forward to next year since could start to set some goals.

I got in the car, started it up, and no kidding, here's exactly what came out of the speakers:

"born and raised in south Detroit..." Cool

I couldn't believe it!  I'm telling you - there's something about that song.

YES!  Total Immersion has really helped me with my swimming.  I am still a snail in the water (heh) but I at least I don't drown.

What do you guys think about off-season training plans?  Is it worth the upgrade to a silver level BT membership for this?  I like the guidance they talk about, although haven't managed to use the bronze level plan very well due to lack of user time to investigate it.  I am determined to train well for the winter so that next year an Oly is not a huge stretch for my fitness level.  So far I have just been winging it since the tri season ended, which is ok, but it does allow me to stay at the same fitness level pretty easily.  Thoughts??

OH...I've had one of those days. I didn't want ot go to the pool until I realized that if I swim BEFORE I drink, the alcohol will take effect much faster.

I've got a 10k trail run on Nov. 10.  It's not a race, but it will be my first 10k.  I did the 5 mile trail run a couple of weeks ago and it was super fun!

I *might* do a half marathon this weekend.  That will depend on how much I drink on Friday night..

I also have 2 more halfs coming up and the Austin Marathon with Jorge in February!

Any of you Texans doing the White Rock Half marathon, or at least those of you that want to party in true BT style, there is going to be a huge BT party that weekend.  Not sure of all the details, but the attendees are all good peeps.  I know most of them and I am really looking forward to meeting the rest.  Anyone interested?

Hey guys,

A lot has happened in my life, lately. Weird how stuff comes in feast/famine style cycles. I was attacked by a crazed prof here in the dept. where I am trying to complete my Ph.D. I had an experiment blow up on me and 4 undergraduate students, and I got fired from my teaching position (by said crazy guy, so it's not so bad). There are now lawyers involved...that never sounds good, no matter which end one is one...

The doctor has permitted me to run, again. I'm up to two miles and it's molasses on a cold day slow, but it's progress. I wanted to go out for the AT&T Austin or the Bearathon (meanest little half you will ever find), but he put the kibosh on my enthusiasm. I can sign up for a 5K in the late spring, IAOI my progress is positive. It's good to be back, if only slowly.

I walked a cross country 5K a couple weeks back near Ft. Worth and....came in first. The other ladies in my age group were walking, too. If I already posted this, sorry, brainfart....I am still laughing that I got my first "age group first" while in my walking phase!

I hope all are doing well. Good luck with the off-season training. There are a couple of good articles posted on BT's main page about preventing overuse injuries. I think I will have some reading to do. My history has been that me left unsupervised in the health club has been as a bad as a nine year old left in toys r us with a credit card.....Yikes.

Well, I am off to do my day.

I could potentially be an observer at WRL. I think some of my hubby's co-worrkers are running.

I, however, am no where near ready to even think about a 1/2 Mary...althought I hope to be able to do one by this time next year. As it is, I have been talked into my first Oly sooner than I planned (May instead of October), and I'm already nervous about the 10K run.

I must learn to love running...I must learn to love running...I must learn to love running...

"Race with Grace 10k" at my church on Thanksgiving Day with Gator22.   Should be a fun run.  My first road race.  Not looking to set any speed records but I am looking to have a good time.

I need ... help.

I joined a triathlon group here in the Dallas area hoping to get a lot out of it, including meet a lot of really cool people. When I joined, I was happy to notice they have a members only Yahoo group. So, to this I introduce myself and ask questions which I think would be great for other newbies to this sport to know. I also said I'd like to get the answers to the questions so I could add the information to their site and help out a lot of people. I was excited to do this.

OH boy. Was that the wrong thing to do.

I got *several* FLAMING snotty emails from people saying "Don't use the yahoo group for this, it's only for training announcements to the entire group." A couple cursed at me. One put me in tears when I read it. It was so completely rude it was like a slap to the face.

Then, I got two phone calls from the coach telling me that he'd had many many people calling him about me posting on the board, and that they didn't like it, and wanted them to yank my membership to the board.

This, btw was for TWO postings to a Yahoo groups forum. (I re-read the yahoo group to see if I did anything against the rules, but there were no rules.)

I have never been so humiliated. I trained with them on a run once and basically, they ran off without me because I was slow and they "had a big iron man to train for". I did a swim meet with them last summer and they seemed really nice, so I was surprised that this was so ... bad.

I told the coach, that perhaps this was not the group for me, maybe after I've trained for several years and was no longer a newbie. I told him I really wanted to fit in and would try to make as many of the meets as I could in the next month to evaluate if I could "make it" or not. I even told them I'd finish up the newbie questions page I said I would do in the first place. (I'm a woman of my word.) I told him that maybe I'm not up to the caliber as everyone else is, I'd give it my best shot.

Honestly though, I'm really discouraged by all of this, and I don't know if I will give them a fair shot after all of this. Especially since I got a bunch of stuff in my inbox with their "important" discussions that have nothing to do with training announcements.

I need opinions...should I even give it a month?

Heather,

NO!!!  Absolutely do not give these people a chance!  That is just horrible that they would have the huevos to do that to someone.  I know tons and tons of Dallas area BTers that are SUPER nice people.. so I know that there are plenty of people out there for you to meet and hang out with.

"I have an Ironman to train for.." Are you f*cking kidding me?  That apparently gives you a free card to be a complete @$$hole.  I don't think so.  Stick up for yourself and tell those douchebags where to go.  You deserve better than that.

In fact, I will be in Dallas for the White Rock Marathon (I am only doing the half) but there will be a HUGE Dallas BT party that weekend.  There has already been talk of the tequila filled supersoaker!!!  I will keep you posted on the details but I am sure that it will be a party like none other.  I hope to see you there.

There is a group here that is EXACTLY the same way. I won't say the name of the group, but they are so snotty. They do like 30 mph group rides and are so arrogant it is ridiculous. There are other fun people around to train with though, and our city is way smaller than Dallas, so just keep looking.......
