Royal(PITA) 14270 West Chester, Ohio | Subject: RE: The Things That Go Bump In The Night Team Thread Well, most of my rides are solo, every once in a while I hook up with my friend Susan from work (she does century rides for fun). She went with me to get the bike in June Iand I could barely hang with her for 9 miles that day. Rode 25 with her last month and it was a b**ch but I hung with her the whole time. Yesterday I was really ticked at my kids because they thought they'd show responsibility by cleaning up the bike for me...knocked the rear deraiuler off line and the chain off, then left it sit in the garage. Didn't 'fess up until I said something then it was the blame game--turns out the older one talked the younger one into doing it and then they got scared and left it rather than really show responsibility and admitting what happened. I got a quick 1 1/4 mile on the elliptical after swim practice this morning! |

Subject: RE: The Things That Go Bump In The Night Team Thread I almost always ride alone. I don't know anyone who isn't faster than me, except for one or two friends who don't actually "cycle" - they have hybrids, so they might not be able to keep up the whole time. I run alone (inside or during broad daylight on a well-populated trail that goes behind people's hosues, etc) and I swim alone too except for Master's class. |

Royal(PITA) 14270 West Chester, Ohio | Subject: RE: The Things That Go Bump In The Night Team Thread it sucks that so much of training is solo, but given peoples work schedules and other commitments it often just falls that way. I try to go to the tri club OWS practices during the summer, they're often followed by a 5 K run on a pretty hilly road (no PR's on that road for sure) My work schedule doesn't seem to fall so I can do the ridefinders group rides or the group runs that leave from RunnerBill's 3x/week (plus I hate the thought of driving 30 min to go run for 45 min then driving home again, would rather just run here for the longer time) |

Yup, this is why I haven't really bothered joining up with a tri-group. I'd never be able to make weekday things, since I work til 6 and getting out of Tyson's takes at least 30 minutes to go in any direction. Really my only thing is roping people into running with me in the am or after work when it's dark. I can do the trainer or spin class for the bike when it's dark. |

Oo, harsh words! I trained about 2000 miles on my trusty Trek 720 hybrid, which weighed almost 45 lbs. I didn't have clipless pedals either. And, I completed the Boston-to-New-York (hurricane-abbreviated) AIDS ride and the San Francisco to Los Angeles AIDS ride on it (575 miles). And was still able to lift it over my head at the end...

It's one thing to train on a hybrid - but, the friends I'm talking about are VERY recreational at best. They might be able to keep up for awhile, but not for any real distance. |

When I started, I could ride only 10 blocks. 10 BLOCKS -- not even a mile. I am glad that my friends didn't dismiss me as not really a cyclist, and one of my favorite things about my tri club is how supportive everyone is, for everyone at every pace and with any equipment. Last year our top women (all Kona qualifiers) took the regular "easy pace" riders up the hills in Malibu (now on fire). The remarkable IMLiz rode with the tail end, at about 4.5 miles an hour up the canyon roads; I chased Kona-Bound IMCherryl down Pacific Coast Highway at 40 mph. There is real joy to be found in riding with people who are "recreational" and also in riding with people who are a lot faster than you are. Expand your horizons! |

Melon Presser 52116 | Subject: RE: The Things That Go Bump In The Night Team Thread Afternoon, all! Hey now ... I'm still riding a bike with cruiser bars. Just popping in for a quickie. Things a little hectic around here. Air quality in LA sucks, so not sure how I'll get the running in (probably a freebie pass to Bally's or something). I do walk everywhere like a mad fiend, and that won't stop, so my mileage will be fine. I just want to be able to train. Can't imagine how awful things are down at Terri's place or up at Paul's. How are you guys doing? Promised I'd post pics of Chrissie's tri-hottie, so here he is!

Glad I could be of service You should see pics of the former triathlete I used to date. Not only did he have a SLAMMIN' bod, he had the face of a Calvin Klein model. However, since he was once very, very competitive in tris, I don't want to post him on here. But trust me, if you thought the other two were hot, this guy takes the cake...woooooof. |

Subject: RE: The Things That Go Bump In The Night Team Thread Okay, boys and girls, we are 9th out of 11th right now. Luckily, the standings are fairly close. We have exactly a week left, so let's see some awesome runs!! I am going to the gym right now to log another 4 miles (possibly more if I can manage it). And because the World Series starts tonight... "Let's Go Team Bump!" (clap clap clapclapclap) "Let's Go Team Bump!" (clap clap clapclapclap). (GO SOX!!) |

Subject: RE: The Things That Go Bump In The Night Team Thread We need a BUMP. I logged another 4 miles today. How is everyone else doing? We've been a quiet bunch lately - except when I drop another hottie bomb into this thread? Am I gonna have to post the former-triathlete-ex-boyfriend to get at least the ladies going? (Or maybe some of the dudes - he's THAT hot). Edited by wurkit_gurl 2007-10-24 12:41 PM |

Am I gonna have to post the former-triathlete-ex-boyfriend to get at least the ladies going? (Or maybe some of the dudes - he's THAT hot). Ive got a couple of miles planned for tonight, as well as a sprint tri on Sunday so I should be right at my goal for the month. This is going to be a chilly one, it's looking like about 55 deg or so on sunday when we get out of the pool and get on the bikes. I gotta go shopping for a long sleeve jersey or something.

Champion 26509 Sydney | Subject: RE: The Things That Go Bump In The Night Team Thread Hi, Im just writing a note here to get feedback regarding those people affected by the fires in California as Mother Nature is an unforeseen circumstance that we could not have planned for with this challenge. They way I see it there are 3 groups: I have some ideas on how we can address this but the key suggestions are: Those affected by smoke can use the gym or elliptical or treadmill to meet their goal OR if you do not have access to these facilities the above will apply. Please let me know via PM or in the team leaders thread anyone affected and what you want to do ASAP as the end of October is almost upon us. Please stay safe |
