Great race report Dan. You did a great job describing things making it feel like I was "along for the ride" (or should I say, along for the swim/ride/run).

I guess the swim caps are chosen for their visibility because I too was wearing a neon pink cap when I did my Tri. Didn't mind wearing it in the race but I'm a little self concious about wearing it during my regular noon hour swims. Not so much because its pink but because it is so friggin' BRIGHT pink.

There really is something special about the energy of being in an event with so many other participants, don't you think? As much fun as any race is, I really finnd the big ones (like the NYC marathon) to be extra special because you are there were so many other like-minded people, there are so many spectators to get you energized along the way, etc.

By the way - $50 per night parking? Holy crap !!! I have stayed in plenty hotels (granted, some were pretty scuzzy !) where for $50 you got a room, parking and the odd insect to take home with you

Have a great day everyone!!

Marianne you swam AFTER the tri?! Girl, you are incredible! What a great race and race report! After reading about the swim I think we can now call you a "mud turtle", hehe. Sounded nasty.. eweee. I think it's kinda cool that you cruised transition. Yeah, you want to be fast, and it counts, but still - you said before the race that you were determined to have fun, so WTG - you had fun! AND a PR in spite of transition! You are my hero. I honestly don't know how you do it.

Dan, wtg man! What an awesome tri! You just keep getting better and better! Great swim! The bike course sounds rough, ouch. And you didn't walk again! AWESOME. Incredible time! Dang, kid, you've got this thing down! I'm with Pete - I'd like to see a pic of you in the pink swim cap, hehe.

(Thanks, Leston! )

Nice biking, Peter!

OK, it is now 3 days after the main event that I have been training the last 8 months and I feel lost (I know Leston felt the same way). It will be very, very difficult for me to schedule any additional Tri's this year since we (our family) go to all the home Michigan State football games. They do have some late season Tri's, but they don't work in my schedule. We are going to Vegas the first or second week of October as well. I have lost some of my enthusiasm for working out. I did an hour of lifting today, but motivation was limited.

I certainly don't want to go "backward" in my conditioning so I am looking for some advice. I do have a 5K tomorrow with my daughter and we are running the Detroit Marathon as a relay in October. I am a very goal oriented person. Suggestions please!

Also for next year's tri season I am going back and forth in my mind. Do I
1. Train for an Oly or
2. Try to get faster at the sprints?

I would love to consistantly place in the top 3 - 5 in local Tri's and top 15 if I do Chicago again next year, but an Oly would be a major challenge for me.

How do you experienced Triathletes keep motivated during the winter and how do you set your goals?

Signed,

Confused in Detroit :^)

Dear Confused...
I see the challenge of distance in your future!!!! The way it has worked for me...the harder I train to go longer.... the more fit I become...hence faster. I fit the sprints into the training for the oly so I still have the fast ones. I have enjoyed training for the longer distances but I too feel a little tired.

I plan to spend the "off season" improving my running distance and improving my core. I am considering a Cross Fit Program (high intensity cardio workouts) I am going to do 2 1/2 Marys this Fall/ WInter. Come Spring, I will begin 70.3 training. I will begin setting the calendar in Nov. In October I have a lot of STUFF to take care of in the yard/house as well as the playoffs for the Sox!!!

I rode the bike course (1loop) of the IM for this weekend with my teammate Kathy. OMG was it tough, very hilly. GLAD I am swimming.I was thinking as I was riding that it has been a little over 2.5 years since I quit smoking.... I am swimming 2.4 miles this weekend...very hard to believe...having so much fun!

The clock is ticking for our fearless/ tireless leader only a few weeks and we will have 70.3 on the finish line.Somehow I think that should count for 3 finish lines!!!

Juanita...you were right it was a mud bath...totally gross at points, I actually stood up at one point and said "this is disgusting" then dove back into finish. Its actually a nice lake if you swim where its over your head!!!! Glad to hear your back at it...as Bryan says LRR!!!!

Nice Biking Pete!! Pretty soon we'll have the beautiful fall foilage. I cant wait to ride through those peak weeks!

Leston...home improvement counts as a workout...I'm sure of it!!! Log it!!!

Dan - OLY, OLY, OLY, OLY, OLY - they are sooo cool.....you did a great job on the sprint...you were pretty doggone fast...way to go dude....  I do understand the podium desire but the challenge of the distance does hold a big allure to me.

Flipper - good to see that smile back in the family.....stay focused

Dan and Leston - post race/season depression is nothing new...everyone gets it.  I did my first 50 mile bike rally after the tri season last year because I couldn't get out of my funk....I have said it before, I have to have goals on the calendar.....

So, MAV - what is your plan for next year?

Here's my first disclosure......this is HUGE for me....never thought I would say it - I am running the Houston Marathon in January......26.2 baby.....so stretch out there little turtles....set the bar high and then we all know, it's just - left right repeat

Dan - sometimes surprises like running on concrete happen for the first time on race day - THE LAW says - don't you do something new on race day....many times enough new things jump up at us....

FBP - what's your 2009 goal?

Flipper - what does 2009 hold for you?????

Dan - like you I MUST have a goal event(s) or else I would sit on the couch, watch TV and eat chips - literally - for hours on end. For me speed/placing is never a concern so  I am always looking for the next challenge through distance or by adding activities - like swimming and biking !!

Here's what's in my sights. This fall I am instructing a Learn To Run program that begins midway through September. It is 10 weeks and will see participants starting from zero and then progressing to 5k. The first week for example we will do 1 minute walk, 1 minute run x 10 reps. There is one "class" session held at the store each week on topics like footwear, goal setting, nutrition, etc. and then we do a walk/run together. We also get together for walk/run on Wednesday evening and Sunday mornings. The course will "graduate" at a local 5k event - the Santa Shuffle organized as a fundraiser by the Salvation Army.

Also on this fall will be to VOLUNTEER at the Fredericton Fall Classic 10k. It'll be my first time to volunteer - sort of paying it back/paying it forward for all the  volunteers at my races over the years. Thinking still of the Colby College Sprint Tri on Sept 20th.

Pretty sure I will aim to do OLY next year and long term plan is to aim for a 70.3 in 2010 - when I turn 50.

Over the winter I'd like to maintain my swimming/running habits, some indoor cycling on a trainer (please Santa ...) and some strength/flexibility training. I also owe Jill some effort on home improvement tasks. We also need to find a "together" activity like ballroom dancing or curling but with her starting back into a Masters program (M. Ed.) full-time next week who knows what time we will really have.

Oh yes, and like mav I will be cheering for the Sox in the fall and Dan, since I don't have a "team" in US college football would now be the right time to become a Sparta-maniac?

OK, the thought of 1,500m OWS just terrifies me but after reading your comments: I WILL DO AN OLY IN 2009! I still want to increase my speed and be a regular top 5 finisher in my AG on the sprints, but I will compete in at least 1 OLY next year. Due to my comfort level of the swim course, I may make Chicago my OLY, not sure yet (plus that means a late wave start ...

If anyone else is interested in doing Chicago next year let's meet up! It is a bit expensive, but you have 1 year to save and plan and can make it a family trip! Just think about it! Remember, this is the city getting the 2016 Summer Olympics and you can do a Tri there before the Olympics ... how cool!

Brian: MARATHON! WOW you are the man. You are now committed so no backing out ... Do it! But more important right now is the HIM. I can't wait to hear about it!!!!!!

Pete: Some strong goals!!!! A 70.3 at 50 is admirable... hmmmmmmm maybe I could ..... no committment yet, but everything starts with a thought! And yes, it is never too late to become a Spartan!!!!! This season we should be decent in football (Should have 7, if we are lucky 8, wins), but we finally have a real coach and the next few years could be awesome!!! So jump aboard and beat the people to the bandwagon!!!!

Mav: You are amazing and have come soooo far in such a long way. I am thinking of going to Boston just for some swim lessons!!!!!! You will do unbelievable in your next races - I can just feel it! Keep up the GREAT work and attitude.

Leston and Juanita: Looking for your goals for next year, let's hear them ....

Yes Bryan
Dial 70.3 2009 and you will get me in June if I am not dead from training first!LOL

I swam at Walden Pond tonite. If any of you are ever in the area I strongly advise a trip to this park for an OWS..it was really very nice!!!

Pete I hope you do the tri in Maine... I dont have the time off or SAU's ( spousal approval units) Bryan taught me that one! Actually I think I am currently carrying a negative balance of the SAU's!!! As soon as I have a positive balance... I really want to buy a tri bike!!!!!! I also dont have the time off from work to travel to Maine. Maybe you can do it this year, and we can do it together Next year!!!!

Have a great Holiday weekend. Good Luck on your race this weekend Bryan. I'll post a race report when I can!

Dan - there can be no backing out...the cash has already been tendered.  It will be an interesting winter but I am pretty sure I can be ready.

My workout today was a long run....2 hours....it was actually a very very comfortable run, nutrition worked out very well and I was pleased.  I finished about an hour ago, showered, had a quick dinner and feel fully recovered....or at least pretty close.

FBP - mentor away my friend....share some speed with those folks.  I am proud of you for doing that and all the volunteer work I know you do in your community.  It is also great that you are going to work a race.

Remember, each one of you should volunteer at one race a year.  By the way, Debbie quite often volunteers at the tris I do so she can have something to do while I am acting crazy.  Without those volunteers, we don't race.

Also, I want each of you to consider being a mentor out here next year.  I am not saying we would disband - that won't happen - unless you all leave me.  I just know that each of you is capable of running your own group too.  At a bare minimum, we will probably open our group up next year to add a few very special people....smile.  What do you all think?

Happy Labor Day to all of you....think of me when you awaken on Monday.

A MARATHON! Wow, Bryan! Good for you! And you can do it, too! YouDaMan!

And a half-Iron for Marianne next year! Go, Mav, GO! I'm so excited for you! You are going to be awesome!

OLYs for Dan and Peter! (No pressure here, huh? ROFL.) (Also, I LOVE all the other stuff you have planned, Peter!) Go guys! You Rock!!

For me? Ack, plans/goals/events for next year... hmm.. um... haven't thought that far ahead? At this point, I'm simply grateful that I'm managing to get to the gym once a week. I do plan - and WILL - increase gym and workout time here soon. I'm trying to find a groove with the new job, yard work at Mom's, and several health issues. I know that sounds like a cop-out, but it really isn't. I swear. I love working out, and while I don't visualize myself attempting to be even slightly competitive at triathlon any time soon, I do want to continue competing. Let me put some thought into this, and I'll try to answer the question as soon as I can. We have a wedding coming up in May of 2009. (Have met with Kat's future in-laws, GREAT FOLKS, and have tons of things to do. Eek.) Working out and training will be the perfect therapy for stressful wedding preparations (did I mention that I will be baking and decorating the wedding cake?), no doubt, but trying to think ahead to actual triathlons with the wedding looming large on the horizon is a little overwhelming at present. I'm also waiting to hear from my full time job application. I sure have my hopes up for that job, lol. With the wedding we have planned, we can sure use the money.

So yeah, this will take some thought, both for time and funds distribution. (Did I mention she is getting married on the beach in Destin, FL? We're renting two huge beach houses on Destin beach. They will double as accomodations, reception area, and will also be back-up in case of bad weather. Gonna be a blast. )

Meanwhile, here in the present, Katy (Kat) had her thesis approved 3 weeks ago and passed her "comps" last week! She is officially good-to-go for graduation the end of this semester and has, in fact, begun course work for her Ph.D. already this semester. She's on her way home as I type this, to celebrate with us. I'M SO PROUD. Her birthday is tomorrow, as well, so we have big dinner plans (seafood, of course - her choice) for tomorrow. But guess what she wants to do in the morning? Go to the gym with her mom! Woohoo! She's so good for me!
*ear to ear smile*

A recent picture of Katy and my future son-in-law, Seth:

Good to "see" all the smiling faces here, as well. You are ALL good for me, too!

sTRIve!!

P.S. We have spent the evening shopping and cleaning up the yard getting ready for Gustav, but it looks like it will miss us for sure, now! WOOHOO! AND Whew!

Flipper - watch that hurricane...it has been acting strange.  Stay vigilant.  Your daughter's wedding in Destin....I am so jealous....I LOVE Destin....some great times....we laugh as we look back at all the pictures of our daughter changing every year when we are there....  Just work out when you can - there is always time for what is important...and no better place to think about lists and details than on a treadmill, elliptical or spin bike (without the class going on).

I leave in the morning for Austin - tomorrow is a day off....I am really looking forward to it, this has been a pretty tough week.

sTRIve....you will all be with me Monday - whether you want to or not....

Juanita and Bryan - hope that everything will be fine for you through these next couple of days with Gustav on its way. I understand from CNN this morning that it is heading west of N.O. so that is good news for Mobile.

Dan - I was able to watch the MSU game  last night  on the Detroit  channel that we get. Oh well, at least it was a diversion from the ongoing saga of the Mayor's scandal !!

Mav - you can thank the Jays for holding on to beat the Yanks yesterday thereby helping the Sox in thte wildcard race !!

Leston, Bryan and Dan - if you would be so kind as to email me ([email protected]) and tell me a snail mail address (work, home, PO Box makes no difference) where I can send you a small envelope I'd appreciate it.

Daughter Stephanie moved back into UPEI residence yesterday. Talked to her and Jill last night and they were both exhausted .

Weather here isn't great today so not sure if I'll get out for a bike ride but will try to do either that or a run. Cheers,

Bryan,

If you get the chance to read this before monday, MY THOUGHTS ARE WITH YOU MAN!!!! I know you can feel the positive vibes of the Turtles. You are a well trained and conditioned athlete and you are our leader! Make your students proud :^) ....

Pete, tough game last night. I don't expect GREAT things this year as mentioned, but I love the direction of the team ... 7 wins will be good for us this year, but the next few year Look Out!!!! Jump on the Spartan Bandwagon early

Mav, KEEP SWIMMING! You are an amazing athlete (5 years ago, did you ever think anyone would say that about you?????). You are inspiration lady!

I took a few minutes and looked back at our early posts on this forum and it was really interesting. If anyone gets a few minutes, that is a cool excercise to see how far we have all come. Let's not fall behind this fall and winter - myself included!!! Keep moving forward like our Turtle Mascot!

WOW.I cannot begin to explain what an awesome experience this was!!! Being part of an ironman relay team was incredible... I was extremely nervous, many questions, what if I cant finish, then my teammates forfiet...UGGHHH. Needless to say I had a sleepless night prior to the race. Got up at 4 am and ate a bowl of Ramen...love the sodium. Then had a banana and cream of wheat. Was very full and headed to the race sight down the street from where we were staying. One of my teammates left after the meeting the night before and had the timng chip...she was running late so I changed our number and got a new chip. We decided this was the best course of action because she needed to go to transition which was a half mile from the swim start. Race day jitters are not FUN!!!!!

If you get a chance go to the town of Plymouth MA web site and look at the rock jetty that sits in the harbor. We swim that distance 3 times then out to the harbor and finished coming up beside the Mayflower, unbelievable venue!!!!!

I got to the pier and warmed up but not in the water. We had to start the swim by jumping off a dock and had no way to get back onto the dock unless you were pulled up by someone and I wasnt risking being stuck in the water. There were three waves..I was in the last...ugh! Nervous energy everywhere. When I finally got in the water I was so anxious...My heartrate was really high...off I went..NO BODY CONTACT AT ALL YEAH!!!!! I was swimming fast, breathing every stroke for one length of the pier then I settled in to my pace. I had a great swim, very well paced. Only gulped disgusting salt water twice!!!! We did three lengths of the pier then out in the harbor ...home to the Maylower. After the last lap of the pier there were 2 orange bouys...they seemed to be moving but its difficult to tell in a choppy ocean, so I went as fast as I could...turned out the bouys let loose and a boat was catching them...needless to say it was rough following the boat... but I got back on course. Passed quite a few people in the waves ahead of me...Yeah....kicking some butt!!!! I swam up beside the Mayflower and climbed the ladder up the dock ( got a killer creamp in my calf, stopped momentarily) Unofficial time for 2.4 miles....1:17. I AM SO HAPPY!!!!!! then I have to run to transition which is bout 1/3 mile away...RAN FAST... people screaming and clapping...so cool. Passed off my chip to my friend kathy and she was off... I'll write more when I have time later.

I thought of you all often during my hour ( there's alot of thinking time in the water)Without your support this would not have been possible!!!!! Thanks for helping me ..I had an unforgettable day!!!!!

First - Flipper - looks like you guys are getting hammered pretty hard with rain so my thoughts remain with you and your family - I hope all is well.  Hopefully the rain lets up soon.

Mav - WHAT A DAY GIRL!!! 1:17....no wonder they call you "motorboat"....that is amazing.  So did you really wanna keep the chip and ride 112???????  Maybe next year.....smile.  That is a fantastic accomplishment.  So how did the ride and run go for your teammates?

My day was excellent.  I feel great....I feel totally recovered which seems a little odd but I could use a short nap from the early wake up call.  Time is unofficial...off my watch...but I think I am around 3:02....was hoping for under 3 but I will take it....it was a non-wetsuit swim and I think my swim was the same as in May so I was very pleased with that - maybe that was my 1 or 2 minutes lost to no wetsuit....LOL...bike was average 19.5 mph unofficially and the run was about a 1:05, or 1:06.  Again, it was a pretty hot day but did not seem to bother me like the one in May.  It was almost the same course as the one in May so I think the comparison pleases me.  I felt my nutrition was dialed in, which is why I feel very recovered now I am sure.  So I got up, had a bagel and peanut butter and then a banana, followed by a little caffeine fix.  Walked over to transition as it opened, got body marked and then set up my little area....it was clean however maybe not as clean as FBPs transition area.  I then walked back up to the room to relax for a few minutes.  Back down with plenty of time to spare (I HATE to be late anywhere).  Shawn Colvin, a country musician from Austin sang the national anthem and the open wave was off.  I was in the fifth wave so I got to stand around a little and then it was into the water with no wetsuit - the temp was 78 so it was wetsuit legal however I made the decision to go sans wetsuit in case my 70.3 is non-wetsuit, I wanted to be comfortable with the swim.  No real contact, no bumper bodies, no amusement park ride at the beginning so I just swam.  I am pleased with the swim, felt good getting out, HR a little high but okay.  The bike was interesting.  There were a couple of tight turns and a couple of turnarounds and a few gradual grades and one hill, I hit it pretty hard and am very pleased with what Polar says my pace 3:05 per mile - I will look forward to checking it when the official chip times get posted.  And then there was the run --- ah, the run.  I came out of T2 at about 1:56 or 57 and thought, hey, let's see what happens.  I knew the bike took a little out of me but hey, I like to ride.  Heat was building, sun was bright, it was a beautiful day - so it was just left, right, repeat.......I really would like to see the halfway split, I am pretty sure I may have run the second half faster than the first but I guess I will never know for sure.  Great party after with massage, ART Active Release Therapy, pizza, beer, smoothies, ice cream, fruit, Famous Amos chocolate chip cookies, etc.  Put the bike on the back of the truck, took a shower, checked out of the hotel and headed for home.  Approaching the highway, I-35, we saw it was blocked and empty.  Moving with everyone else on the service road, I realized it was for President Bush to travel down to San Antonio to make an appearance.  He met with hurricane volunteers and evacuees in Austin and then in San Antonio (I think he also watched me participate in The Austin Triathlon - ROFL).  Then, here came all the police, ambulance, bomb truck looking vehicle and a bunch of black suburbans, some with the back windows open and some mean dudes looking out backwards, followed by several press vans and then more police.  That was cool, then the highway re-opened and we were able to get out of some of the traffic.  What a great Labor Day!

WOW! Bryan and Mav, you are both amazing :^)

Mav: The thought of anyone swimming 2.4 miles - I can't comprehend it, let alone doing it in 1:17!!!!!!!!! This from a woman who smoked for 30 years and just quit a few year ago, girl you belong in the Tri Hall of Fame!!!!! Next time, make sure the swimmer has the timing chip! I hate race morning jitters/snafoos - that would have drove me crazy! But you are one cool cumber and raced like a real pro. I really can't wait to hear "the rest of the story" (as Bryan told me a few months ago! LOL).

Bryan: You are our leader for a reason and I would follow you :^) .... Great job. Your conditioning must be excellent to be recovered this quickly. I am truly impressed. I felt good about my sprint in 1:31 so doubling that would be your time, but I know there is no way in Hell I could repeat my times in double the distance, so I am truly impressed!). Having Shawn Colvin sign and seeing the Presidential Motorcaid pass by is a GREAT bonus. Job well done sir.

Juanita: How you holding up sweety? I hope you, your family and neighbors are doing well :^) ... our prayers are with everyone in your region.

OK...the rest of the story....

I cant begin to tell you how cool this really was. It was a small race only 100 participants individual/relay teams. They also had an olympic distance race with about 200 participants. As I said the race was in Plymouth harbor so it was in the middle of a very busy commercial tourist area. Alot of curiosity.

When I got out of the water and was able to quickly work out my cramp I ran like hell to transition which was about 1/3 of a mile away from the swim exit(I am not kidding about this distance)I was really excited to be done and alot of cheering was happening so it pumped me up even more. I got to T1 and Kathy G took my chip and off she went. Someone stripped my wetsuit for me and once I got my heartrate down I returned the favor to some other racers. Triathletes are the nicest people!!!Todd, our runner completely missed the swim( he didnt think I'd finish that quickly) as he had gone for a coffee!!! After Kathy left we all went back to the house I had rented. Several friends and our famlies were all together. The bike loop passed right in front of the house so we were all able to get out and cheer each time Kathy came by...we had cowbells ..and made alot of noise. Then we would go back and barbeque and eat. Kathy would stop for a minute, high five, and give us her trash. Actually I have a pic of me taking her trash out of the pant leg of her bike shorts!!!! It was great. We watched her complete 3 loops than left for transition to get Todd started. Kathy did great, I believe she finished 112 in 6:27. The top finisher completed in 4:15 (which is insanely FAST!!!!!).

We went to transition to wait for Kathy...Todd was a wreck as he knew Kathy and I had pretty good splits. It took Kathy a while longer on the 4th loop and we were getting nervous waiting for her. She finally came in and we were screaming!!!!! I took her bike and Todd got the chip and away he went. Kathy collapsed on the ground. I took off her shoes ans socks and poured cold water on her feet gave her a mini massage and we talked for a while. She went back to the house to shower and eat and we went to the run course. She met us there later.

We had a blast on the run course. The runners had to do four loops and then return to the center of town. We were with several families on the edge of the road/loop. We had cowbells and did "the wave" for our favorite runners. We actually gave knicknames to a few. I ran for a while with Todd around mile 22( which I later found out he really appreciated)I was in flip flops so I didnt go too far. When he completed his 3rd loop we headed back to town for the finish. It was awesome!!!!!! IT had just become dark but there werealot of people gathered at the finish. Todd fiished in 4:12. Our overall time was 12:11. We dont have an official time as something got screwed up when we switched the chip(I cant believe this happened). We emailed the race director who said he would get our official times up/talk to the timing company!!! We think we came in 3rd place for mixed relay(OK 3/5) but we did it!!!!!!!!! We had finish photos and got our medals and finisher T shirts!!! After we went back to the house and ate and celebrated with a bottle of champange. I HAD SUCH A BLAST!!!!!!

Funny story...today I went to the grocerey store, proudly wearing my IM finisher shirt, which I am never taking off(we are vacationing in Plymouth for the week)..and as I was coming out a lady called from her car and said " we saw you at the race, how did you do?" I explained that I was part of a relay team. apparently they took my picture several times and they wanted to email the pics to me. I gave them my e mail address...I felt like a rock star!!!! I think I may have been the oldest woman participant!!!!!

Bryan......Sounds like you are really fit and ready for 70.3. I am SURE that George Bush came to see you!!!LOL It sonds like you had a great race YOU ARE READY!!!!!!! 70.3 (I cant wait to do it next year!)

Juanita... I hope you are weathering the storm..thought alot about you today!!!

Dan you will swim this distance I have NO DOUBT!!!!YOU KNOW YOU WANT TO!!!!!

Flipper, I hope that you made it through the worst part of Gustav ok. Sounds like it wasn't as bad as expected, which is always a good thing. Praying for you and the people in your area. What a beautiful daughter and son-in-law to be! You are proud and should be. Thanks for sharing.

Speedboat, you are amazing! I am so happy for you, that you did so well and had such a great time. What a great experience to be part of an IM! I could get the sense for how you must have felt through your great reports. Maybe as close as I'll get to IM!

Bryan, congratulations on a tough week and a great event on Monday. You have become a truly veteran triathlete. It is hard for me to believe that you were a newbie just last year. You are an inspiration to us all.

RE Goals:
My goal for Labor Day was to labor at home and get all of the wiring and lighting done for our small remodel project. I did it, Yeah! Breaking new ground for me with electrical, but thank heaven for knowledgeable neighbors and friends. Next I need to build some shelving while my wife repairs the mess that I made of the walls and ceiling.

As you can likely tell, I've a single-track mind. Multi-tasking for me is chewing gum and typing my post for LRR at the same time. So I haven't spent much time making plans for next year's tri season. I definitely want to do my best to keep my fitness up - I have felt better this summer than I have for a very long time and its been great. My older brother who lives in Portland wants to do triathlon next year, so I think that will be my motivation. The three of us brothers want to do (at least) one together in 2009. There's not much triathlon going on around here from now until May, but once I earn some more SAUs (LOL - I love that term!) I will get serious into training again.

My foam roller arrived last week and I have used it a couple of times on the IT bands. Kind of hurts, but I guess that's normal at first. I don't know.

BTW, the nation's longest single-stage bike race is being held this Saturday, starting here in Logan. It is called LOTOJA, a very non-creative name for this Logan-To-Jackson race covering 206 miles (http://www.lotojaclassic.com). Not flat miles either. Several mountain passes between you and the finish line. Serious riders only! Maybe some day...

sTRIve!
