Post 5000

Who would have believed?

Where did it start?

Well, about 2 ½ years ago my life took an unexpected turn.  I was diagnosed with cancer.  No one plans that to happen in their lives, but you learn to get on with life and not let it stop you. 

Once I got done with all the treatments, I decided it was time to take back my life and body and do something that I had always thought about doing but wasn’t brave enough to follow through.  I was going to enter a Triathlon.  To make it even better that was the way I was going to celebrate the year that I turn 50. 

Well, not knowing anyone else who entered Triathlons, I went online and found this awesome site known to all as BT!

My first year on BT was fairly quiet.  I spent a lot of time lurking, but did join a great mentor group with COgirl as our mentor.  She took us newbies through our first season of races, encouraging us, teaching us, as we trained and became friends.

At the end of my first TRI season I was pretty bummed that it was over.  What was going to motivate me now?  That’s when I stumbled onto the Challenge Forum on BT.

First Challenge was in Oct as part of the Poison Apples.  A challenge run by D001.  Our team was successful in this challenge and feeling like a winner I entered the November challenge and my world changed.

November 2007 was when Nibbs was born.  Dee and Beth put together this unbelievable team that started out known as “Those Who Shall Not Be Named”.  It was soon shortened to Twisnibbins that eventually became Nibbs.

Nibbs are who have carried me through the past year.  I feel honored to be a part of this group.  They have encouraged me, laughed with me, and cajoled me throughout this past year, keeping my spirits up even when I have not been able to race due to a foot injury.  Not once over the year have they made me feel bad because I was unable to TRI this year.

Over the year we have seen fishnets, whips, shoe shopping, vacations, reunions with children, birth of grandchildren and just about anything you would encounter in day to day life. 

A year ago, I had maybe 200 posts to my name.  Now I’ve hit 5000.  Who’d have figured.

Thank you, all the Nibbs, who have been a part of Nibbs from the beginning and those who have adopted Nibbs over the year as their own for being a part of my life.  I’m better, stronger and laugh a lot more because of all of you.  You all give so much, I can only hope that you feel I have given you as much in return.

Now that the seriousness is over, back to the fun!

Kendra, incredible post!  You are a main reason Nibbs persists.  You've had a great year!

Thank you Kendra for just being an awesome chick who proves that no matter what problems life throws at us we can do anything in the face of it at any age, any fitness level and we can smile and find the joy in little things. 

I know it sounds cheesy but you are someone I look at and say 'I want to be like her' - Thank you for being such an inspiration.

Poison Apples took to the name alright.  It was those other teams who didn't think we would be that scary.  Their bad.  LOL

But it's one of the things that keeps you hanging around Nibbs...waiting...hoping...that someday I'll post the pic...I'm one of the reasons you're still here...(I'm so full of myself)...
