Subject: RE: Ironman Louisville : Official Thread

Hi all! Newby here! Just got caught up on all 48 pages of this thread. Here's what I got so far:

-This is my first IM, but I am only 28.
-I'm naturally a bilateral breather, it just works well for me and keeps me balanced.
-My race calender:

April 2- Abraham Lincoln Memorial Half Marathon (Springfield, IL)
April 17-Pioneer Sprint Triathlon (Petersburg, IL)
April 30-Illinois Marathon (Champaign, IL)
Mid May-Capital City Biathlon (Springfield, IL)
June 5-Trishark Triathlon (Hudson, IL)
July 17-Racine 70.3 (Racine, WI)
July 31-Ironabe Oly Triathlon (Springfield, IL) *for fun*
Mid August-Abe's Amble 10K (Springfield, IL) *for fun with friends*
Aug 28-IRONMAN LOUISVILLE!

-Was planning on using a Matt Fitzy plan from his week-by-week training plan book, but now ya'll have me thinking of doing the Ironfit plan, since I just finished that book which I got for Christmas.
-I work midnight shift (like I saw someone else on here say, can't remember who, but that person had to work every other weekend also, just like me)
-I'M VERY STOKED TO SEE LIKE MINDED PEOPLE THAT I CAN COMMUNICATE WITH. My husband would thank you if he knew you existed. lol

That's it for now, thanks for all the words of wisdom so far and all that is yet to come! Happy Training!

Ashleigh

Subject: What is the capacity of IM Louisvile?
Hi all (first post!),

Could anyone tell me what is the capacity of IM Louisville? I am wondering if/when it will sell out for this year. I heard it didn't sell out last year is it true?

I googled, of course, but could not find the information. I found that the race soldout for 2009, but not for 2010...

Thanks!

Question to those following the Be Iron Fit plan, or those with knowledge/history of HR training:
Are any of you struggling with or frustrated by the HR zones?  I find myself (particularly on my runs) constantly "putting on the brakes".  I feel as if I am running at an unnaturally slow pace to stay within zone 2, let alone zone 1.  I realize my current fitness is not ideal, but I feel as if I am at a snail's pace to stay within the suggested HR zone.  I have used multiple methods to determine my max HR, all with roughly the same #.
I am tempted to train within a more comfortable pace, resulting in a higher ave HR, and quite possibly ending up in zone 3 more consistently, but question the intelligence of this at the same time.
Thoughts, feedback or help are very much appreciated.
Thanks,
Dwight

Welcome to all the new folks!

Dwight--I am following the Be Iron Fit plan and haven't done a hr test in about a year.   I need to do it again.  I hear you on the unnatural feeling and snail like pace.  My only suggestion is to be sure you can carry a conversation relatively easy and can breathe out of your nose more often than not.  If you can do those things and you aren't skipping workouts due to exhaustion, then I think you should be fine.

I'm no expert on heart rate, but those suggestions were given to me at one point and it seems to work.

I think it is around 3000, the race did fill up last year and from reading www.ironmanlouisville.com it is close to filling up now.

Cube! Amazing weather. What a great opportunity! I actually have favorable conditions today, but I'm not feeling well. Apparently I overlooked the dirction at the bottom of my program regarding what to do about being sick. "Don't".
Anyway, it's sunny, light wind, about 36', and the roads are clear. We are expecting a snow/ice storm tomorrow and monday with temps dropping, so I won't see a day like this again for a long time. Heck, while I'm sitting here, I'm thinking I might just force the issue and go anyway.
Nevertheless, good for you Cube!
Peace,
~Sam

I'm jealous, Cube.  and to think my wife and I had the crazy idea of moving from Alpharetta to Anchorage, AK.  I would be right there with you on 141 and Suwanee Dam Road otherwise.  But alas, I am stuck inside about to do a 1:45 minute trainer ride.  At least my Kentucky Wildcats are about to play on TV.

Dwight - I am new to tri so do not take this as gospel but from what I have read the long, slow low HR zone work early on helps build a good Base.  Or rather build a stronger "engine" so later when you transition to the faster, high HR work your capacity to improve will be greater versus maybe hitting a plateau.   That is my K.I.S.S understanding.  Welcome and good luck.

Cube...niiice.

Anyone...Snow day today. Produce a short video...Road to Ironman, Episode 7, Beginnings.
It's a contrived "interview" of me very briefly telling about my first triathlon. Cabin fever will make you do goofy things. Admitedly dorky, but so what.
If you want the full story of my first triathlon, I guess you would have to read my book.

Anyway, lifted, did crunches, cycled 1:45. Good return after yesterday's letdown where I talked my way out of going 1:45 and I only did 1:00. Given travelable roads, swimming in a.m. tororrow.

Giddy-up!!!

Snow day?  Lol.  Its been ridiculously nice here (South Carolina) the past week.  I got a sunburn on Saturday from laying around outside during a swim meet without a shirt.  Its about 80 degrees.  Nice!!  I ran the Cooper River Bridge the next day just for fun...

Forecast for tomorrow: in the 50s.  Cry

Hey Steve, do you want an aerobar shoved up your nose?
Just kidding. Glad you've had nice weather. I'd take 50' in a second.
We have another snow day today. I drove 12 miles to the pool at 4:45, waited for about 10 min., then drove home to find out schools were canceled (the one where I swim, and the one where I work).

SwimOutlet came through by having my standard goggles and earplugs in stock...TYR Racetech goggles and Speedo earplugs.

Solid 1500 yd. swim this morning. I'm happy with my time, but I'm most happy with the consistency in which I pulled it off my 500 yd. splits were 8:05, 8:21, and 8:21 (24:49).

WARNING: Before you open this month's issue of Triathlete Magazine (the gear review issue), remember, you have good stuff and your stuff is just fine. If necessary, keep repeating that to yourself as you glance through the pages with drool running down your slack-jawed face.

Peace,
~Sam

Flu has had me down since Monday.  Thankfully Monday's are my day off.  So I have missed two days of exercise.  I am trying to stay optimistic and believe that I am going to get something in tomorrow. My body aches and I am full of congestion, but I think my fever has subsided.

Thanks for posting the interview, Sam!  I'm going to consider myself "famous" now.....I think that is the first time I've been "featured" on the internet.

Glad to see that most everyone is getting in some good workouts.  I've been hitting the pool consistently and running during the week.  Trying to ride as much as possible on the weekends.  Fortunately, the weather has cooperated here in NC.  I've got a ride set up for both Sat and Sun this weekend.  I can't wait!!
