I don't see why not. You could use the HR/RPE version. Is there a link to the program here somewhere, I haven't had any luck looking back through our 40+ pages for it. |

Veteran 306 | Subject: RE: Gary's Mentor Group - Closed Have any of you guys ever done a lactate threshold (LT) test? I finally did one for running yesterday and seriously thought that I was going to die - I thought that my heart was going to explode out of my chest. I warmed up for 10 minutes and then ran all out for 20. And the huge bummer is that I must have hit the wrong button on my Garmin because it only recorded the information from my 10 minute warmup and not my test. AAAAARRRRRRGGGGGHHHHH!!! I'm not going to do it again. I looked at my watch several times during the run and was usually hovering right around 188 - 198, but got up as high as 193 once. So I think that I'm just going to guess that my average was around 188. So frustrating! I actually did the work but still have to guess at the number. |

I would do the same as you since the test is so painful. My last run LT test was two years ago and I was seeing stars as I was about to pass out. I figure those zones are close enough until I either get much faster or much slower. |

I dont anticipate my fitness getting significantly better or worse so I'm just going with the estimated numbers I have. Its closer than 220 - my age so I figure that I'm OK. Its not like I'm some elite athlete anyway.

Extreme Veteran 701 Raleigh, North Carolina | Subject: RE: Gary's Mentor Group - Closed Hey all ... anyone put together their race plans yet for 2012? I sat down this morning and put together a tentative schedule ... beginning mid-March - 7 races in all, about 4-6 weeks apart, with 2 longer length events - either Oly or International. There potential for a HIM in November but I'll have to see how the year goes by. I'm starting to feel the juices flow just sittin' here!! [Dick Vitale voice] Yeahhhh Baby! |

Did you hear they changed the run course and it doesn't finish in the French Quarter this year? http://www.nola.com/running/index.ssf/2011/11/ironman_races_to_be_held_on_th.html That was one of the really cool things about this race. |

Pro 4360 Baton Rouge area | Subject: RE: Gary's Mentor Group - Closed Yep, heard about it and bummed but I paid for the race and its the only HIM within driving distance so not much choice. Actually I am more bummed about them combining the 5150 folk as that is just going to make the bike course so much more crowded. But it is what it is so all I can do is hope they don't cancel the swim and the temps during the run are cool. |

Member 96 | Subject: RE: Gary's Mentor Group - Closed Hello all, It has been a while since the last post but I have finished two 1/2 marathon's. Learned a lot from both, lol, will never run a night race again. Night race as in didn't start till 10PM. Then the other race whihc was a 7:30AM start, much better, with temps in the 50's and 15mph winds. So now that I'm back on the bike for the "off season" I have a question: The other day on the road I was able to log in 22 miles in just over an hour and the ride felt good. Today I put in 13 miles on the Cycle Ops Fluid trainer, and 'felt' like I had put in 25. Is it normal to feel more spent on the trainer than on the road? Thanks all. |

Yep. For me trainer miles/times are about 20% less than road miles for the same effort. |

Pro 4360 Baton Rouge area | Subject: RE: Gary's Mentor Group - Closed Dub - +1 on what Mike said. On a trainer you are either pedaling or stopped but on a bike you can coast awhile (especially downhill). 47 min ride on the road Saturday and today I ran 10 miles. Knee start bothering me at 9.5 and just coasted to 10. Tomorrow is supposed to be Jorges 20 min "test" basically how fast can you hold for 20 mins. He recommends taking it light the day before. Hmmm, this could be painful. Elizabeth, how are you doing on the plan? |

This morning I did 35 minutes and then one of the boys got up early so that ended my morning. But I'm glad that you're checking on me. Now I'll be sure to do Wed also. |

I did Jorge's test last year and was starting to get worried I was going to pass out :-). I'm sticking with last year's LT number instead of going through that pain again. |

Member 96 | Subject: RE: Gary's Mentor Group - Closed All things considered I'll give the "test" a shot due to the fact that I want to improve. I'll try to keep in mind that it is very hard and the thought of 'passing out' my come and go! Thanls for letting my know that I'm not crazy as to feeling really weak on the trainer. I'll just have to learn that the trainer may be more for intense sessions. Edited by Dub_Z 2011-11-15 8:47 AM |
