Sleep deprived because a kid is screaming in my face I can deal with.  Sleep deprived because my bedmate can't sleep annoys the heck out of me for some reason.

First time, really, doing OLP's on the bike. Someone please tell me they get easier.

Jen and Jeff- sounds like you guys are feeling better. Glad to hear it.

The roadies in town love it.  It's funny how certain products fall into certain demographics.

OLP (one leg peddaling) is like doing fist drills in the pool.  They are really annoying, but they really do help you get better.  Just like fist drills help you develop an early vertical forearm, OLP helps develop an even pedal stroke so you both push with your quad on the down stroke and pull with your hamstring on the up stroke.

I think that pretty much everyone should incorporate some one leg peddaling into their biking at least once a week.

http://www.skratchlabs.com/products/exercise-hydration-mix-1

It looks fairly good.  My only concern is that its 40 calories / 10g carbs per 8 oz seving.  So a 24oz. bottle would have 120 calories / 30 g carbs.  You would either need to carry A LOT of bottles or concentrate the mix.  Depending on the flavor you could probably double the number of scoops in the 24 oz. bottle and end up with a solid amount of carbs and sodium.

I agree as well. I am more upset about what he did to cover it up than what he did. He did what everyone else was doing at that time. Hopefully an apology to the people he hurt along they way will come out. Anyway enough of Lance...

Here are my thoughts on Lance (if anyone is interested) --

Lance has irreperably tarnished his work as a philanthropist.  The tarnish does not come from the fact that he used PEDs.  Lots of cyclists used PEDs in an era of low risk and very high reward.  The tarnish comes from how he treated his friends, teammates, sponsors, journalists and fans.  For many years, whenever an individual confronted him about PED use, Lance used his influence, power and financial wherewithall to bully and intimidate others.  Lance destroyed many lives, not because he used PEDS but because he used every means available, including the legal system, to destroy the lives, reputations and finances of those who suggested that he did indeed use PEDs.  We all make mistakes, that's forgivable, but I don't think you can forgive someone who doubles down on those mistakes and destroys others lives' in the process.

kaburns1214 - 2013-01-14 6:17 PMAs sort of a general response -- I think we're all capable of a lot more than we may initially thinking.  By Training smart and making good decisions, I think almost everyone is capable of a HIM.
What exactly do you mean by training smart and making goods decisions?

Train in such a way to address your limiters and maintain your strengths (this is different for every person).  We tend to like to train out strengths because we like what we're good at.  Also its important to understand how things work together.  Someone who runs (relatively) poorly off of the bike may think they should run more but if you take a closer look its often that they don't have enough bike endurance or poorly execute the bike, which leads to a poor run.

Like most things, its tough to make objective decisions about yourself, which can lead to (sometimes) purposeless training.  If all the training you do has a purpose, you don't have to expend really large amounts of time to have a solid finish (now working to get to the top of your AG at a large race is a different story).

OK, I don't have any qualms where my weakness lies - the bike.  Do I poorly execute the bike?  I don't know because I don't know what that means.  I go out and ride.  I actually like going up hills; I am more cautious going down because I don't want to crash (I know, but I'd rather lose a little time then be out for injuries).

On another note the family has really jumped on the eating healthier. It makes it a lot easier to eat healthy when they are too.

Awesome on both accounts.  Yet another reason I can't wait for this baby to get here.  I SOOOO need to get a handle on the junk food brought into my house.

When is your wife due?

March 10th.  She's to the point of swearing this is the last time.  LOL.

I bet  Just wait until you're both sleep deprived with 3.  Good times.  Good times.

Congrats Scott! I don't know what that feels like having stopped at two but I am a little envious of those with three

Easy ZR ride this morning with some OLP thrown in there.  Yesterday was the first day in 2 weeks that I actually felt human and had the energy to complete life's most basic tasks.

I'm still eating sugar-free, gluten-free, and dairy-free, and I'm feeling great.  My GI doctor told me to remain on the gluten-free diet.  My taste buds have officially been reset.  I had a bowl of frozen grapes last night, and they tasted almost too sweet.  Crazy, I know.

Glad you are feeling better Jen! I love frozen grapes! Delish!

I'm also terrified of going downhill now. I wasn't, until I rode the Keene decent last year. Now it's all I can think about of the course, and literally squeezed my brakes the whole way down.

Anyone use the Garmin speed cadence sensor? Mine just stopped working, all of a sudden, kaput! I think it was right after Vineman, when I swapped my wheels for Zipps. When I swapped wheels back it was not working. I've changed the battery (twice!), made sure the magnet is lined up properly, what else can I do before buying a new one? Do they just stop working???

I wouldn't be too concerned, except when I went to use TranierRoad last night it would not calculate my virtual power without the cadence sensor. Cry

Did you hit the little reset button on the unit and spin the wheels a few times?  Also, you can add it as an accessory again if your Garmin isn't recognizing it.  Which Garmin are you using?

Short, form focused swim this morning + strength.  Recovery run later today.  I'm feeling blah today, so I hope the jog lifts my spirits.

I have to stop at the store and pick up some baked goods to pass off as my own at a school bake sale.  I signed up to do this thing knowing that I have NO talent when it comes to baking.  Seriously. I could use a box mix and it would be an epic fail.  I can cook very well, but the baking is another story.  Sorry, Conrad.  LOL

Ooh, I didn't know there was a button. I was just trying to get the ANT+ stick in my laptop to pick it up and it wouldn't. I have a 310x watch, but turned off the pairing of that a while ago. I really only use the cadence sensor when on the trainer and using TrainerRoad to get VP #, and the watch is not required. The stick worked last year great, now not so much. I will search for a button when I get home tonight. Thanks!

Did you try hitting the reset button on the side of the sensor?  The little light that flashes green/red is also the reset button.  It's an obvious question, but a good start.

3k in the pool this morning.  I'll get my recovery run in this afternoon.  the 3k was the best I've felt in the pool in a while.  Blasted PT paddles might work at something other than making me furious apparently.
