I saw this a few weeks ago myself and thought about getting it for my bike.  They look like a great way to provide a little extra security to your bike if it's stolen if an extra sticker is placed in an obscure location.

Originally posted by jenbmosley Thanks Jeff. I feel really good what I am doing right now. My long weeks leave me feeling slightly tired, but that is only near the end of the week. The short weeks feels awesome.... but I do feel my muscles almost aching to get out and keep going longer during the short weeks.

Jeff hit it on the head.  Allowing your body to hurt is not a bad thing as long as it's within reason.  The adaptations at your age will occur relatively quickly so you should be able to see lees time recovering and ore time base building.  Just as you've already been doing, pay heed to what your body is telling you and become intimate with how it responds and recovers.

Originally posted by KWDreamun Well i swam 2,000 yards non-stop yesterday evening in a pool (I have to wait until after the weekend for OWS because of lifeguards on weekends, they won't let us get out of the buoyed area which is very small). Then came home to practice floating, well if I have to float, I'm done...it got a little better BUT I have a long way to go. I'm going to practice EVERY day if possible. After early church yesterday I did get a 7 mile run in and it was not to hot low 80's but a breeze and i really felt good running.

It sounds like you're doing well in the water with this kind of a swim.  You should be ready for the August olympic just fine.  Just as others have stated recently develop a means to recover and relax during the swim if you feel it's required but it's probably not going to be from floating.  Just as you've already said, you probably aren't going to be able to float because of your high muscle mass.  I have never been able to float.  My legs always sink  when trying to float face up or face down.  Try to do some breast stroke as your means of recovery.

Will the other thing that works really well is the tegaderm bandages. I used those things on the worst of my wounds and the definitely helped speed up the healing process.

Dirk, great race and excellent race report!!!

Jen, GREAT training!!!

Will, I coulnd't open the link but yes, putting your name on your bike is great!

Matt, enjoy your trip to Vegas BUT before you go, watch the movies Hangoer 1, 2 and 3...lol

Tony and Warren, it looks like ya'll re going to have a hot week, please be careful in your training.

I think I may abandon the floating and try the breast stroke, never tried it but maybe I can learn it in a month???

I didn't mention this in my RR from last Saturday but I used breast stroke at Muncie last weekend.  As the sun was bearing down and causing a very large glare across the water for my trip back to the swim out.  Taking a few seconds to get a good look around a after rounding the turn and heading east was the only way to be able to see anything at all.  Breast stroke allowed me the time to keep my head above water and get a glimpse for better sighting.

My point is that you can use an alternate stroke, preferably breast stroke, to get a good look around while still having forward movement.

I put this on FB, but I had to post this here since all you guys will get it.

How great is my wife?

We try to do a date night on Tuesday nights, but this week we had to move it for a variety of reasons. We ended up picking Thursday, and as we were thinking about what to do, she says “Isn’t Thursday the day of the stage with the double climb up Alpe D’Huez? I know you’ll want to watch that.”

Pure awesomeness.

The stroke I was suggesting is really like the breast stroke, but is modified just so you're more on your side and kicking more like freestyle than breast so that your legs aren't whacking anyone around you. It's very relaxing and easy to do, super easy to sight, no learning required really. Particularly in a wetsuit, though it's very easy to do without one,. it would be absolutely possible to do the entire swim with this method, albeit slowly compared to standard freestyle.

I was thinking about this the other day. We have a local print shop that I think can do these up. I may stop by and see what they can do. I thinking your idea may be the cheaper one.

Finally got it to open, yes I love the names on the bike but when you go to sell the bike, how difficult would it be to get the name off?

This is the correct answer! As a matter of fact, when an athlete asks his or her spouse for the funds for another bike there is a standard answer for the question: "How many bikes do you need?" Response: " Honey I just need one more."

This is awesome. Our little local Tri Club actually prints off stickers with names and the tri Club on it for our bikes. I thought this was pretty cool because if something were to happen, it is an additional way to identify who the bike belongs to... they might not know me, but chances are someone will know about the Tri Club.

Check out mine.... "Rose City Tri Club" is written under my name, but you can't really see it here...

This is exactly how my husband has ended up with three sets of golf clubs, I currently have two road bikes and a mountain bike and.... we have no bedroom furniture... who really wants to waste money on some nightstands anyway?

DIRK- Awesome race recap..... and for any of you Junkies that haven't read the recap.... grab some form of nutrition (you'll get the joke when you read), pull up chair and start reading!

Congrats on the race, for freaking out Lis, and for keeping all your teeth.

It also makes me feel better to know that as much goes on in your head on a swim.

I posted this in the forum but wanted to see if any of you could help:

I've got multiple issues that I'm looking for help with. Wondering if anyone has ever had these things happen and/or has any advice for me:

1. On my long runs and bikes lately, my right ear has been getting stopped up. It's super irritating, especially when running b/c my hearing in that ear is muffled and every step vibrates in my head. It does seem to have coincided with the temps getting hotter here in TX... not sure if that could mean sweat in my ear or humidity messing up the pressure in my head (it does feel like when you get off an airplane).

2. After really long, hard efforts (races or WO's) I sometimes get a strange burning sensation on the roof of my mouth. It goes away after a bit, but still annoying.

3. I've had 2 WO's this year (one run and one a bike) where my HR has just skyrocketed and I've been unable to get it back down, even by lowering my effort or even stopping and restarting. I'm fairly confident it is due to the TX heat and humidity. Wondering if there is anything I can take or do to combat it.

x2 totally agree! I really appreciate it at when any of the Junkies takes the time out to put together a very descriptive narrative in their race reports. I like the feeling of going through the race as if I'm part of it and I always find there is much to learn from everybody here.

Will I can't offer up any advice on this as I've not experienced any of these issues. The closest thing I can say is with #1 when I swim and do any sort of brick workout like bike or run afterwards I do have the problem of either one of my ears being clogged from swimming and waitng for the water to pour out of it or I get a runny nose which is very annoying. It happens with the pool more than the lake. I think maybe the cholrine messes me up.

Will, I can't offer much advice either but I seem to have the same problem as Tony. After swimming, maybe 4-5 hrs later my nose just drains and is a PIA! Normally on efforts over 2500yds and I know I should wear a nose plug, but...

for number 3 it may just be a sign of fatigue but I'm not sure! I have experienced the same issue with my runs over the last few weeks. I normally go around 140 for a 9:40 pace but for the past week I had to run over a 10m pace just to get under 150. Couldn't really explain it other than my legs felt tired and stiff during this entire time so maybe part of the effort, of course the heat over the last week is most likely a bigger culprit.

for me, I feel I'm turning a corner in my WO's for the better. I had been feeling sluggish and not motivated, which I believe came from too many days off towards the end and after vacation. I think the WO does something that keeps me in balance and without them things start to boil.

yesterday I had a swim session that involved 100 repeats and managed to hit several in a row at 2:00 flat. I know for you fish that is slow but for me it's cruising. One item I have been concentrating on is a higher elbow and it seems to be helping, well now that I understand what a higher elbow actually means. Today was a interval session on the bike that had me riding at a 155-160hr for 6m at a time. Some definite pain, the best part was when my flat course turned into a rolling course in the middle of the 6th set. I stood up to increase effort and just about fell off the bike. Probably why most people do intervals on the drainer

Last note, looking forward to finally getting to race again this weekend and may be over doing it a little bit. Original plan was for 5k Thursday, 10k Saturday and a sprint tri Sunday. Good celebration for the week! But I think I have decided to cut the 5k out of the plan, the heat/humidity right now is through the roof and Thursday is supposed to be one of the worst days. So with September 8th in mind I think I will skip the 5k and opt for a swim instead!

Dirk and Matt, so true about the bike and funny, well not funny to wife...lol

Will, for #1, do you take sinus med before you run. I take Allegra and it help me.

Matt, good luck in your race this weekend! Hey Matt, I think 2:00 on the swim is GREAT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!1

Well last night, I finally started learning to float, I can't say I got it down but i could swim a lap in our pool, roll over to float for 5 seconds or so and take off again. It is a start.

Karl that is good news you are making good progress. Keep at it your persistence is paying off and you'll be able to not only make it through the swim you may surprise yourself with how well you do.

Matt I aspire to be swimming 2:00/100's. I'll take that any day of the week. I'm was hoping to be around that time for my IM swim but I think it's gonna be slower than that. I'm trying to add a 3rd OWS a week from here on out. I think for me the more I swim in the open water the better I am. I feel like I really need to do it as the only thing that worries me now is being able to comfortably swim the 2.4 mile distance. I'm working on it.

As far as the heat goes I'm sure most of us have been having to deal with it. I got a 15.5 mile run in yesterday evening and thankfully it wasn't that bad. It was hot and humid but not as bad as it has been. I definitely caught a break last night but it'd gonna be hot again back in the 90's and all the way up until Sunday.

Tony, great on the OWS.

Hey please be careful in the heat. It is one thing for us in the south as we are acclimated to the heat. Be careful, run in the shade if possible or at night, drink, drink, drink and walk if needed. If it stays hot, you'll be ready if it is hot in Wisconsin! It is all good!

Karl I hear you! I'm swimming in the lake this evening and will do a very short spin on the bike on the trainer indoors to meet my TdF challenge obligations. It's freakin 95 degress here today! What is going on with this weather? Glad I got the run in last night no way I would have done that today.
