I'm not camping but I'd be down for a meet and greet of some sorts.

Good morning,

Does anyone have info on the current lake temps? I'd really like it to be wetsuit legal ;-)

It was 68.8 yesterday. Unless you are a pro wetsuits will be legal. We aren't expecting any really hot stretches in the next two weeks.

How much faster do you think a wet suit makes you? I'm a horrible swimmer and just bought one last week. I signed up for an open water swim tomorrow to test it out and I always heard it's like cheating since it helps so much. Not that I want to cheat....but I suck at swimming and rather not blow all my energy on that. Anyone have an estimate on this?

I am sure it varies by swimmer. It helps me improve about 3 to 4 minutes in the HIM distance.

You will float like a cork in the wetsuit, so won't spend as much energy staying on the surface.
Also think about getting some tri glide or similar lubricant for your neck, wrists and ankles...otherwise you might spend the time gained in the water getting out of the thing in transition!

You're not kidding. I just did an open water swim tonight with it and it's like a life jacket. My butt and legs floated to the top without any effort on my part. I'm glad I signed up for the swim. It was 750m swim and I stopped 7+ times. All those people freaked me out. I went again for another 750m and only had to stop near the end to get water out of my goggles since I didn't put them on correctly before I started the 2nd lap. I'm glad I signed up for that though. I felt fine swimming the 2nd lap but the people are what caused me to get out of my zone in the first. Hopefully this doesn't happen on race day and I just do my thing. Think I got all or most of the nervous jitters out tonight.

Camping also. This is a first-time event for me in a lot of ways: first time travelling more than 20 minutes to a tri, first time camping before a tri, oh, and my first HIM. I'm in B92 and would enjoy meeting some fellow BT'ers.

My family is all coming out for this race. I love this race because it makes it so nice for the family to enjoy the campground while I am racing. We will all be camping in site 44 and 47. Swing by and say high.

This is my first travel Tri, after 5 years of local events around Denver and Boulder; looking forward to meeting some more BTers.
Since Free State Brewing is a must for dinner after the Friday drive, any recommendations for Saturday breakfast?

Am I the only person who noticed they did away with the yellow brick road???

Kinda disappointing....they replaced it with a normal Ironman carpet. I thought it was kinda part of the "identity" of this race. Made for sweet finishers pics too....

Otherwise, about a perfect day today all things considered! Wish my it band would have healed before trying...back to no running!!!

Well done, I'm jealous!

That was my goal till my it band acted up a month ago and meant no running.... wah wah wah I know.

I can't believe how fast some of the 25-29 guys went though. Even without the injury I don't think I would have been in contention.

Thanks!  I pulled a 4:46 and my goal was sub-5:00 so I am thrilled.  Can't wipe the grin off my face today.

If I recall correctly (which may be a longshot) but it didn't roll down more than a spot or two.

When you come up from the lake and to the top of the hill and turned right over the grass on the run, our campsite was just after the first aid station in the camping area and on your left.  We tried to cheer as many people on as we could muster after the finish.

I noticed the yellow brick road wasn't there only because I had read about it. This was my first HIM, and while I'm bummed I didn't get a chance to make some rounds and track down fellow BTers, I did finish at 5:43. My family had a great time, we met some crazy cool people and made some new friends (we even ran into some old ones from back home)! Definitely hope to be back next year, maybe strong enough to have an outside chance at Vegas. (Well, one step at a time - gotta move into the top 25% first!)
