I do, however, accept that I am swimming in pee (possibly ingesting a small portion) every time I get in the pool at the Y. It's one of those things that's just kind of a dick move if you do it and your over about 9 years old but it's not like anyone will call you out on it. Well, unless maybe you go on the internet and admit it. So go ahead and pee in the pool, it will make me feel better next time I am on the bike and spit to the left without realizing someone is trying to pass. In fact, next time I spit on someone I'm gonna yell "pool-pisser!" at them just in case it's you. |

My assumption is that most people pee before leaving the house and/or in the locker room before getting into the pool. Therefore, given that we are swimming hard and sweating profusely in the pool, the amount of unrine is not that much. Now, had you drunk 4 or 5 16 oz beers on the way to the pool, this number would be much higher. But just for grins, let's assume one pees 16 ounces! From what I could find on the internet, urine is about 95% water! That means the amount of 'contaimenents is 5% of 16 oz or about 0.8 ounces....about 1.6 tablespoons. Obviously all pool sizes vary but standard olympic size pool is 660,000 gallons....this is about 84 MILLION ounces of water! But just to be fair, lets say your pool is much smaller.....lets say 25 yds x 15 yds x 4 feet deep.....this is 4,500 cuft.....or about 4.3 million ounces! So you add 0.8 ounces of 'contaiminents' (the part of urione that is not water) to 4.3 million ounces of water and this whole discussion is irrelevent. And just cause I love to calculate.....I have a pool in my backyard. The pool is average size for a home. The pool is 18,000 gallons. This is 2.3 million ouces of water! Aside from these numbers, the pool is being filtered continuously and the pH level of the pool and alkalinity and chlorine level are monitored and adjusted daily....if not continuously. Bottom line again, much ado about NOTHING! |
