Ughh!! The voice of a movement. Any normal society would shun a fool like this. I guess I share his sense of humor. Shortly after Roy (of Sigfried and Roy) was mauled by a tiger, I went as Roy to a halloween party. I carried a stuffed white tiger, had big bloody scratches across my face, and did up a white shirt with glitter that said 'Roy' on the back. Define "normal society". Are Conservatives normal and Liberals abnormal? |

I can handle most anyone's opinions but I honestly would like to..... no, actually I would like to spar with him for about 5 minutes. Can someone arrange that ? Back on topic, sorta; the divide between liberals and conservatives is not shrinking.... oh, well, at least we all seemingly united for a short while after 9/11. I was going to post the same thing, but I couldn't think of a nice way to say it. Well said! I'd gladly pay an entry fee for that as well! Well, first- you need to be somebody worth his time. He did a great spar with Ann Coulter- I think it was at Radio City Music hall. He wiped the floor with her. He's not someone who shies away from debating issues... he does it every week. Frankly- I find that his show is most worth watching when he has 2 of his panel that represent the right. When there is only one, I see him time and time again make sure that the conservative opinion gets heard -and then he makes fun of it... But- that's debate. That is not and valid debate tactic, as a matter of fact, that is sophistry. Then again sophistry is something both left and right pundits are very adept at. |

Every time she'd make a valid point he'd make a joke, get a huge laugh and move on. It's easy to win over the crowd when you're making jokes. |

It's easy to win over the crowd when you're making jokes. it's not easy to take a complex argument, boil it down to its salient point, and come up with a quick and funny way to present it. Perhaps 'easy' is not the word you were looking for. Political cartoonists have been around for as long as there has been freedom of the press. They serve an important role to help us look at ourselves. Where are all the right wing social commentary comedians? Conservatives just aren't funny. (No, Rush and Beck are funny because you are laughing AT them, not With them. big difference) |

(No, Rush and Beck are funny because you are laughing AT them, not With them. big difference) OK I'll give you that, easy is the wrong word. Maher is an (sometimes) funny comedian and no doubt an intelligent man. However it's the "lazy" way. He makes his points intelligently and backs them up with (sometime incorrect) facts. However when someone makes a point that he cannot refute with facts, he goes for the humor. He does this on his show all the time. So when you are arguing against someone who is not a comedian by profession it makes it look like Maher is "wiping the floor" with them. It's simply not the case. Dennis Miller would be one. But liberals don't think he's funny because they don't understand the big words he uses Edited by TriRSquared 2012-06-25 3:27 PM |

When there is only one, I see him time and time again make sure that the conservative opinion gets heard -and then he makes fun of it... But- that's debate. I used to be a fan. He had a good show... then he turned into a . Foremost he is a comedian, and yes he can be funny. I don't have a problem really with his humor. He ran a pretty good show that had a variety of views and I liked the guests he had on his show. But he goes off the deep end when he attacks anyone with anything other than a athiest belief... basically 2/3 of the worlds population. He is so condesending and mean spirited now. Not just that topic, but in all his debate. His stand up isn't that great either because it is nothing more than a monologue of his show. Yes there is an art to being funny and making a good point.... even more of an art than being a shock jock making personal attacks. Carlin knew how to do it right up until the last few years of his life... then he was just a bitter old cynic that went off on rants instead of using humor to make people think... like he had for the decades before. |

Master![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() spudone - 2012-06-21 1:38 PM Honestly I think most liberals would've put health care pretty far down their list of priorities if asked in 2008. Had Obama made something else his priority (like, say, the economy) then there wouldn't have been this rallying cry of FUD from the far right. He'd have had a chance at maintaining 60 votes in the Senate and I'd give even-odds of Democrats still controlling the House. He burned way too much political capital on a single item on his list, when the country has many more things that need to be addressed. Spot on! |
