Training is going well. I'm OK with everything except the run. I too have had a ITB issue since Dec. I have gotten up to 9 miles so far without any pain. Is anyone else itching to race?? I'l be doing St. Anthony next month, so that gives me somthing to look forward to (4 weeks). i think it would be pretty cool to meet up on Sat. afternoon to meet everyone for a few minutes. A few of you may have to give me some encouragment on the run when you pass me !!!

Wow. 70 mile brick is nice! I will be racing Bassman in NJ here in late April as a "warm up" for the 70.3 race. I ran 8 miles on Friday, felt great, rode 40 miles on Saturday. Going into my last month of base tomorrow with the beginner BT plan and hoping to have a great healthy four weeks. Hope everyone is going strong!

Looked up the Bassman and it looks like fun.  Good luck.  Oh, it wasn't my idea for the 70 mile brick, i'm just following the BT plan and doing what it tells me to do.  Can't wait until May.

Quick question:

Does anyone know if the Florida 70.3 has real-time racer tracking? I've got family who want to keep track of me during the race, but I didn't know for sure what to tell them.
Thanks,
T.J.

I've been following a training program for about 3 months now, and I'm starting to get fired up for this race. This is my first HIM and only my 2nd tri ever so it will be a challenge. Did 40 minutes continous in the pool last week which was great, but I have no experience in open water (guess I'll learn the hard way). Being on the bike is completely new. Longest ride has been 2:30, but plan has me moving that up to 3:30 before race. I ran a marathon back in 2005 (I use the term run loosely) so I have some experience but this is the 1st time in my life I have done an interval training. Speed is gettting better, but as this is my 1st HIM my only hope is to finish strong.

With the IM raceday tracking could be done by name or bib #, so folks don't really need your bib number. I love going over the mats thinking of folks at home cheering me on & watching me online!
I am still hoping I will be able to race. Mono recovery is so darn slow & I am worried about being able to get back up to speed in the next month & a half. Only time will tell. Long ride scheduled for the weekend.
If I am able to race I will have to just take it easy - no record breaking for me. I'd rather stay on the mend & keep my eyes on the Aug. 31st prize!! (IMKY)

I'm doing St. A's this year (first time) and Disney (second time)..I had ITB issues (and knee issues!)until I got a good bike fit...since then not a single problem.  I had been fitted and had problems creep up all last year, mostly during races.  This year my bike seems to fit like a glove, so hopefully no problems at ST. A!!

With this being my first HIM I've got a potentially huge confidence boost coming this weekend at the Atlanta ING Half Mary. If I can finish at a good pace and not feel dead, then the next seven weeks I won't feel like I'm behind in training.

So how was your workout weekend?  I copied my log because I wanted to share with people who can relate.  I was scheduled for a 4:30 ride and mapped out a new route from my house in Orange Park FL to St. Augustine Fl the up to Jacksonville Beach.  Great route but...

What a weird ride!  Longest ride for me 83+ miles.  First 3+ hours went just as planned, despite some medium wind, I was moving fast Garmin says 18.8 mph but that includes the stop light time, a couple of seat adjustment time, stop to check on other riders, and a couple of pee't stops.  Then I turned north onto A1A at St. Augustine straight into 25+mph headwinds.  I hit the lap button because I knew it was going to be bad and it was.  I avg'ed 14.6 mph for the last 1:48.  It was brutal!  Sand beating my face while the glasses fogged up.  It was nice to see other riders going south just flying, maybe next time i'll get the wind.  Got to the meeting point with the wife took another pee't stop and did a quick 12 min brick run and it appears my patellar tendons are getting better so that was a sweet ending.

So I showed you mine, what did you guys do??????

I did a full tri, as the BT plan calls for.

  • 9 mile swim(awesome!), 32.5 mile bike(cold and slow), 4 mile run (felt great).

  • Bike leg was slow, lots of hills (550 ft of climb) and 25 mph headwinds. It was only 40 degrees in CT and I could not feel my right foot after the ride.

I am concerned with my biking, need to focus on this over the next few weeks.

Looks like you guys had great weekends. That's what I am supposed to be doing right now . . .
instead I am growing further & further away from my dreams of doing this damn race. We were traveling for my husband's first race of the season this weekend & I was so whooped from the travel (oh yeah, and still the stupid mono) that I didn't get my ride in. I'm fine for the run & the swim is no problem. In late Jan. & Feb. I was averaging 10 - 12 hours per week, now I am struggeling to get 6 - 7 in. This sucks.
Tommorow is a new day & another chance for my body to be better!!

Training seems to be paying off! I was super psyched to finish my half-mary today in 2:10 with no stopping and feeling absolutely fine afterward.
This puts me much more at ease with the goal of finishing the race vertically and smiling.

Good luck and keep it up y'all!

The last I heard was that the run course is the same as last year, but they are going to try to "smooth out" the grass portions.  See the thread below:  there is a post from the race director close to the end.

So I just rode 20 miles of the course...it's such a beautiful day here in Orlando! The course was great-a bit windy though.

Let me know if anyone will be in the area and wants to ride the full course. It literally goes right by the entrance to my neighborhood off 535. I'm thinking post-ride drinks!!!
