I can tell already. Hi captain....are you feeling betta? Not so much, but I'll survive. It wouldn't be so bad if my chest didn't hurt so much. That's the real problem right now. If I have to alternate running and walking every minute, I'm still going to run some time this weekend. Don't over do it....we need our captain! feel better! |

Expert 1117 Shalimar, FL | Subject: RE: February Challenge Run Team 2 Hey everyone! Looks like I've been assigned to team 2. I'm Cheri, and I plan to run for 15 hours this month. Right now I'm training for a HM in early March, but I'm also getting over a very disappointing January. I was out of town for most of the month, and was limited to running on hotel fitness room treadmills -- UGH! So this past week I've been back on the road, trying to get "it" back. So how did I get here? I certainly wasn't a runner in high school, but in my mid-20s I started running a little for fitness. This went on for 20 years or so, then a few years ago I really caught the bug hard. I ran a 10K race, and in my race packet was a training schedule for running a HM. I decided to give it a try, but found that my knees were protesting the distances. A friend suggested biking too, so I started doing that. Then another friend suggested triathlons, so I agreed to that too (I am an agreeable person ). But then I fell during a training run and broke my collarbone, and there were complications. So swimming was a challenge... Anyway, last year I turned 50 and decided that was the year to do all of the things I always said I would do. So I did my first two sprint tris, despite still having some issues with my collarbone. I plan to get the plate removed after the HM in March, so then I'll be able to swim easier and train for an Oly distance tri (I originally planned for one in April, but I think fall is more reasonable). Wow, that was rambling -- sorry! I do like running with scissors for a team name, but can live with whatever everyone chooses.

Taylor Reservoir near Cottonwood Pass in CO, about an hour from Crested Butte. We went camping in the off season so there weren't many people around. There's a funky little "town" called Tin Cup near there, not much else. Thanks for organizing the challenges Dee -- we really appreciate all your work, and wit! |

(Hopefully tonight or tomorrow, if I can get to them.) You've stated that you need to revise it, so we all know that you're going to do this. As Beth said, you can always RAISE your goal. But after this weekend, you won't be able to lower it without penalty. And yes, the goal of the "Challenge" is to push yourself - but not to the point where destroy yourself in the process. Dee |
