Pro ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() marina - 2008-04-12 11:49 AM sparco - 2008-04-10 4:29 PM Correction: 6.2 miles...remember race miles count double! Really? This is from the thread covering rules: Okay a few more details. 1. You need to set goals in at least 2 activities (but can do 3 or 4) to make it a multisport challenge. The activities will be: a. swimming- including drills, OWS etc with goal in either distance or time b. biking- any kind counts stationary, trainer, even riding outdoors ![]() c. running- walk, run, wog, elliptical inside or out in distance or time d. strength- simplefit, crossfit, lifting, core etc in either time or sessions Workouts must be logged and will not count if they are not. Goals may be increased at any point during the month and up to 110% complete will count in the final week. Goals may only be decreased in consultation with the challenge leaders for reasons such as illness, injury. So sample goals: Xterratri swim 40000 yds, bike 400 mi, run 80 mi, strength 12 sessions simplefit/core 2. Teams will be assigned(requests considered but not guaranteed) and totals tallied weekly in a google spreadsheet. The average percent complete(up to 110% will be allowed but only in the final week) of each activity will be computed and those activity averages then averaged for the team total. So if a team is really good at getting their biking in but not so hot at making their swim goals it will work against them. It's designed to encourage sticking to your plan for the month and multisport activities. 3. Race distances or times count double depending on what you are using for goals. This is an incentive so that taper/race recovery doesn't penalize you. In order to use this incentive you must report that you did the race in your team thread so that the captain can then adjust the number above what shows in your BT log(sorry for the extra work captains) 4. We'll be using the yellow line concept of determining challenge winners/losers. I will update with more info once we know how many teams total and have picked a theme but I'm thinking flower avatars for the month of May for teams below the yellow line. (April showers, May flowers) (Edited by Dee to include the Challenge rules/guidelines in the first post of the thread.) Edited by sparco 2008-04-12 12:17 PM |

Extreme Veteran ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Hey team- Finally made it home last night (this morning) at 00:30AM. Twenty hours from when I picked up the phone to find out that both American Airlines MD80 legs were canceled and worked with 4 different people to get another way home. Royal pain but I got to say the AA people were really helpful and I made nice. Enough of my bitchin'...it was vacation after all. Because of travel, missed my bike session yesterday so I will make it up today. Have to do it on the trainer because I cant get too far away from the bathroom.....no more sharing in detail but just know I brought back something more than Televara pottery....and damn, I forgot to claim it on my customs form...how do you put a price on bacteria? Anyway, good job everyone! Turtles are going to kick butt...

Master ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Hey James...at least you finally made it back...how frustrating though! I'm at 47.8% with a long ride slated today - first outside one of the year. Hope everyone is well! |

Expert ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Back from my 5k race this morning. Unofficial time of 54:24 (yes, I wog slower than many walk). It was REALLY hot out on the course. When I finished at around 8:40am, it was already 85F (29C) degrees with a heat index near 90F. I haven't done any training in that type of temperature conditions and I really felt it out there. ![]() |

Anytthing below 35 and above 85 and you really have to watch. Tracking my HRM results I can see a 10-20 bpm spike in temps like that. Add in some humidity and you got a real dangerous mix. Did a HR test to get my new zones on Friday night... Nice swim on Saturday... Long run today. So been thinking about swim workouts... Anyone have any favorites? I did my first pyramid (100 to 500 to 100 building at 100) this Saturday and I will definately add that to my list. I also enjoyed fist drills. Another contact here on BT did a 12x50 sprint set that sounded like a lot of fun (fun being a loose term). Give me some inspiration to get in the water. |

Expert ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() I've updated my information on the spreadsheet. I doubled my miles for today since it was a race. |
![]() ![]() |
Veteran ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() I just noticed that my goals on our spreadsheet don't match what my goals are supposed to be. I'd like to up my biking goal to 400 miles. It's still off what I'd like for the month but with possibly being gone the last 11 days of the month it's a good compromise. Tenacious right? |

Elite ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Well it is offical... I have registered for my first HIM... August 24. Time to get training. I know I am probably weird but I got goose bumps clicking the submit button. I am pretty nervous about it. I know I will be fine... but holy crap... it is real now. |
![]() ![]() |
Expert ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() WTG!! I know exactly what you mean. I signed up for my very first tri EVER recently and had those same goosebumps. Mine is only a super sprint, but I'm excited because it's my first. ![]() |

Mine is only a super sprint, but I'm excited because it's my first. ![]() I know it is cliche but it is true... You will never forget your first. I'm actually racing the course again this year. It will be interesting to see my results. It is pretty long sprint (~800yrd swim, 17.2 mile bike, 3.1 mile run) and will be fun to see my progress year to year 1st: 1:41:35 2nd: 1:34:06 3rd: ?? |

![]() ![]() |
Extreme Veteran ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() I will always remember my first....especially the swim and the mosh pit at each pylon...scary and funny at the same time....and then the feeling of coming out of the water knowing that the OWS was complete. I am repeating the race (a super sprint) in 2 weeks. Hope to see a difference (in the faster direction)... |

Extreme Veteran ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() So possible semi bad news... I am in the process of going to physio therapy to help realign my pelvis after spending so long in a a knee brace for my acl surgery and engaging these different muscles seems to have caused some groin muscle pain when I run. I am going to give it a few days of no running and do my race on sunday and see how it is. Send me positive healing thoughts! |

Veteran ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() I believe it's time for me to make another upward adjustment to my goals. There's a few reasons for this. 1. I've got the Nagano Marathon this weekend and with races counting double I'm woefully low on my running goal. 2. I just plain need more biking. 3. If I can't push myself now how am I gonna push myself through 140.6 on June 22d?
So...here are my new goals: Swim: 25000 meters Bike: 420 miles Run: 150 miles Strength: 6 sessions |
