Tip of the Day - Running success does not require a sophisticated program -- what is essential is a sensible program, done daily, for seven to ten years.  My 2:46 happened more than a decade after I started running.  The body changes slowly -- when we rush the body, we get hurt.  If you are hurt then you can't run.  If you can't run then you won't improve. - from Gordo's Blog (Nov. 28, 2008)

Katie ~ congrats!  That is sooo exciting.  I just got a Trek a few weeks ago so I totally share in your enthusiasm.

I managed a 3 mile run this morn along with my push ups (150 total).

I hope everyone had a great weekend.

Good morning everyone! Looks like a treadmill run this evening for me.

Blech, gone home with either a stomach flu virus or food poisoning (I made scallops last night). The only exercise in my future is recumbant on the couch and curls with the remote...

Going against my wants (wanted to stay in bed) this morning I got up early, went to the Y and rode a bike for a while.  Didn't make me feel any better.  I was stiff and it took more effort than usual.  But since this week will probably have limited training I felt like I had to.

Tip of the Day - (from the BT Newbie Bumpable Thread)

Advice for the newbie:

1. I just started training for my first triathlon. What’s the most important equipment?

Triathlon is a sport of longevity. Don’t concern yourself with an expensive bike just yet; a mountain or any road bike will suffice. However, make sure you are comfortable (if you begin noticing knee pain, it’s most likely your bike fit or lack of running fitness). After your first race, you’ll have a clearer understanding of what you may need. My number one advice for a first triathlon is to follow a proper schedule (many are listed on this site). Also, remember that triathlon is a sport of balance. Don’t overdo any one sport in particular.

Anybody got a good cure for a bad lower back?  Mine is killing me.  Chiropractic helps sometimes.  Doesn't seem to be working this time.   May be a pulled muscle.  Heat and ice are helping slightly (along with a lot of Ibuprofen) No lifting, no twisting, no bending till this calms down.  Makes it very hard to train.  Cry

So much for "I'm gonna bike or swim today."  I ended up getting on the elliptical then did weights.  Short easy workout but I just wasn't feeling it today.

Anne ~ I hope you get well soon.  You CANT be sick on Christmas!

Katie ~ Did you come up with a name for your bike?  Does everyone name their bike?  I'm sorry to say I never even thought of naming mine!

Lara ~ Nice job on getting out the door ~ that's the hardest part.

Scott ~ When you find the answer, let me know!

Nick ~ WHERE ARE YOU?

I haven't read any blogs yet so if any of these questions/statements are answered then ignore me!

20 tonight...

Tooth fixed in a round about way. Tired and ready to get this done.

Found out that I am in the way back of the Marathon @ Disney... I am in the 6 hour finish group. Not really happy about that.

Rodney Yee - Lower Back Yoga can get it on Amazon.com (helps me some).  I am learning it is not the lower-back for me, but the tight hamstrings.  Try streaching them out for 10 min after each run.  I feel your pain!

Nice workout!

I don't know if everyone names their bike, mine have names. I think there was a thread around here somewhere a while back asking who named their bikes and it was about 50/50.

Ok, here's the newbie in me coming out...in marathons you get placed?  Do you not just line up according to time like other runs?

Tooth fixed in a round about way?  Can't they just fix it for you already?!

I have several of his DVD's already, but not this one.  This is definitely a back issue.  Hazard of the job.  I will look into this video though, I know that when I keep regular with my Yoga I have fewer back issues.  All the tri training i have been doing lately has taken some time away from the yoga.  Guess I need to make more time avail. for that too.

Thanks for all the sympathy folks.  Feeling somewhat better today, but not taking any chances with exercise until I can get through the day with no pain meds.  Work has not been fun.

Nope they send you out in waves or corrals with runners that are of like speed so the slower runners do not get in the way of the faster runners.  Its works great in theory but then when you have a faster runner in the back, it takes a lot of weaving to get to a comfortable spot where it is manageable. It also spreads runners out. Here in Chicago we have about 35,000 people that start the marathon each year. It gets really crazy the first few miles. To the point where you are running right on top of someone.
The tooth issue is that I broke the post and the crown. The original crown was made to fit the post that was in my mouth.  So now with a new post, I need a new crown to fit the new post.  It really stinks =(

I am not as creative with my words as John but here is a tip that I always find useful. When we here in the midwest have snowy cold weather and we are stuck on our trainers for long rides. Watch a cycling movie while you are ridding and pretend to be riding a long.

My personal favorites:

Breaking Away

Hell On Wheels

Road to Roubaix

or any tour video (all available on netflix).

In additon to the above (I have the Kona Ironman race on of late), I also play hand-held video games on the trainer.  On my iPhone, I usually play Towers or Risk.  Helps me with the tediousness...  Having both the TV/Video thing going at once is likely my undiagnosed, ADHD!

Merry Christmas everyone  and Happy Holidays!  I am sorry I have not had time to check in on everyone's blogs, but never fear I will be back stalking you  all next week As for naming the bike thanks for all the suggestions...I am still mulling it over...May need to spend some more time on her before I figure it out!

Happy chick....I don't know if everyone names their bike, but I tend to name things so thought I would...for example my honda CRV is named Baby Blue.

Well I am off to PT for my PF Yipee...I got 30 minutes in on the Nordic track this morning which felt good aerobically and did not stress my foot at all!

Happy Holidays to all!

My sister-in-law has convinced me to go try and do a short run in the snow.  We'll see how far we get.  Here in Spokane they've had about 3 feet in the last week.  But the plows haven't been through for a couple of days.

I probably won't be online much in the next few days.  So I wish everyone a safe & happy week.
