KenD - 2009-12-17 8:08 AM Good morning everyone!

My dilemma for the week:  this year I swam 4x week Jan thru Mar.  My swim improved.  I also joined a Tri club with a Master's swim 2x a week starting in July.  My swim improved.  From this I know, swimming more=swim improvement and swimming with coached group=swim improvement.

There's a Master's swim group on the way to work that workouts 5x/week, 3x/day.  $105/3 months.  Advantage - structured, group workout.

There's a 24hr Fitness with a pool <1/4 mile from the office - currently no initiation fee, $35/month.  Advantage - more time flexibility, weight room

I'm working towards a half iron distance in May and like to use Jan-Mar to focus on swim.  I'll rejoin the Tri-club Master's in April as they only swim 2x/week.

Right now, I'm leaning towards the Master's swim group.  I'm concerned with the holidays that if I join this week, I'll really only get 2 1/2 months.  I need to talk to them today.

I would do the Masters group if you are still looking for improvement in swimming.  My background is swimming so I really don't have much of desire to join a group.  I do pretty good myself writing workouts or using www.swimplan.com.  I need more help with open water swimming.  I learned that swimming in a pool is not really going to prepare me for ocean swims!!

Ken, go for it if you can make the time for the masters.  At this point in my life, I can't commit to a set time for anything!

If you have the ability to commit the time to that master's program, you should go for it

HEY, someone just stole my ice cream!  And Ken, I say go for the masters group as well.  I wish I could find one around here for that cheap!  Mine all want to charge $50-100/month and you also have to pay for whatever membership is required for that facility.

Happy Birthday to both of you!  Birthday weeks mean you need to:
-  swim the # of years you are old x100 yds (32 x 100 = 3200 yds)
- bike the # of years you are old in miles
- and run the # of years you are old (I usually divide this number by 10 => 3.2 miles)

We both took the day off and did absolutely nothing.  My husband ended up having to be on a conference call from 9-10:30.  Our boys both nap around 1:30ish so the conference call kinda ruined making any plans.  It was a nice day home with my kids and husband though.

The run and bike should be doable, but no can do on the swim.  This past year in June I started getting this pain at the bottom of my left ribcage.  Couldn't figure it out and it got worse.  Finally went to a doc and after seeing 6 different ones (no one could figure it out) and taking many tests, it was determined I had some torn cartilage.  The only thing I could think of that caused it was the swimming (but it never bothered me during the swim or after).  So I endured 3 months of shots and the pain went away, and I swore off swimming for a while.  I want to make sure it is completely healed and then get with a coach at the beginning of next year to evaluate my form and try and correct what was causing it.  So, how bout I do an extra round of the run!

Good morning everyone.

Is everyone using their BT logs?

Any plans for the weekend?

No workout for me last night.  Plans for the weekend - take the kiddos ice skating on Sat.; watch Cowboys game Sat night.; maybe an outside ride on Sunday.

I am using the logs.  My husband teased me last night because I went right to the laptop after my run!  I had been logging my workouts in a notebook the past few weeks so I entered them in here too.

Our plans all depend on the snow storm coming tomorrow.  We are taking the boys on a Holiday train ride tonight.  I was all for my parents taking them alone but my husband wanted to go too.  Tomorrow is when the snow is hitting.  My little guy is in desperate need of new shoes so hoping to get to the mall at the crack of dawn when they open tomorrow.  Actually I am really hoping my mom takes him today!  She watches my kids while I work.  No other plans during the day tomorrow because of the weather.  Sunday morning is Breakfast with Santa at the firehouse in town.  Then I am going to the inlaws with the boys to bake cookies.  I will get runs in both days!!

Ice skating is something I will never be able to do!  Hope my kids never want me to take them.

I am using the logs.  Very useful.

I hit the weight room last night with only a warmup 10 minute cardio session.  Felt WAY stronger and more fulfilled with my lower body workout.  I will continue to split the cardio and lower body workouts...

Busy weekend. Off to my in-laws with the kiddos Saturday and Sunday.  NOT BEFORE a dumbbell basement workout with  jump rope cardio Saturday morning before we leave.

I've found when I do a really hard effort the morning of days I know I'll be challenged by bad food choices (Christmas dinner, buffets, parties) I'm much, much more likely to stay in control.  Anyone else try that technique?  Wish me luck.

Great weekends, everyone.  Happy to be a part of this!

Good luck with the control, Patrick.

I've tried using a jump rope for aerobic conditioning before but I'm not good enough at jump roping to keep it going for more than a minute or so.

The jump rope gets easier the more you do it. I used to do it all the time haven't done it in awhile though its really good cardio once you get the hang of it.

Plans for the week swim swim and more swimming i ran 3 miles yesterday and biked the day before so tomorrow will be mostly swimming.other than that no plans.

Sunday is my rest day i go to Sherman and play tackle football with the inlaws.

Go to your training log (select the training log icon at the top of this page).

Find the date you want to log.  Find the word "training" next to that date.  Click it.

On the left hand side of the log, you'll find the swimming section.  I normally log time, distance and put the details in the "notes" section.

I love the logs

Plans for the weekend..tonight I want to get a bike ride in and going to hit the pool.  Tomorrow morning, teaching last bootcamp class of the year(focusing on abs/back and cardio) doing a little shopping, need to pick up a turkey still and fitting in a 30 minute bike and run, then dropping by friends for a little christmas open house.  Sunday morning I have to take the dog to training, do a long bike ride during the day and a swim in the evening.

Today is last day of my day job until the new year, 2 weeks off, wuhoo!
