Heal fast!!bummer alert/update.... broke a bone in my hand after wiping out during a training run. My bike computer slipped off my fork and went into my spokes, threw me headfirst into the pavement going about 24mph. I was knocked unconscious and transported by ems....walked out next day with a bad headache, road rash on my shoulder, face, and back.....and a broken hand. Baahhh, Whatevr...., see ya'll in Galveston! .....I got another hand. |

That's the attitude! If those guys and girls who are missing arms and/or legs can do a tri, certainly you can do it with a broken bone! Hope you heal fast and that your doctor gives you the OK to train. I'd be more worried about the head injury, personally. 8 weeks should be plenty of time to recover, but it may affect your training... Good luck and hope to see you there! |

Extreme Veteran 567 Kingwood, TX | Subject: RE: Galveston Half Iron Man Athlete's Guide came out today: http://ironmanlonestar.com/athletes/athlete-guide/ Looks to be about the same as last year. Will still have Gatorade on the course instead of PowerBar Perform. Swim Wave times are not up yet or at least I couldn't find them!

Champion 7704 Williamston, Michigan | Subject: RE: Galveston Half Iron Man OK I am having some serious lack of will to do this race. I can do the swim and the bike no problemo but due to injuries and some major life transitions my run is terribly under trained. My knee hurts and my hip hurts and I just don't care. I've done enough halfs. I don't feel like I have anything to prove to anyone and going into a race knowing you will do poorly kind of sucks. I'm not sure what to do. I could not show at all, DNF after the bike as I did last year at Gulf Coast (injuries) or just do the whole thing and have a miserable experience. I'm just tired of being injured. Sorry to be such a downer............ |

Regular 238 Austin, Texas | Subject: RE: Galveston Half Iron Man I am going in post injury too. I had such an IT band flareup I had to take 8 weeks off of running. I haven't run more than 5 miles since the end of December. That said, I am super trained on bike and swim! My outlook on the race is just to have fun. I am going to enjoy the heck out of it! My run plan is to do a 2/1 run walk and just suck it up! If I get a 2:30-3 half time - screw it! Just go out and do what you love to do! |

Master 1779 | Subject: RE: Galveston Half Iron Man We were on the Lonestar course today. Has anyone heard anything about the location of the swim start being changed? The sidewalks near the previous swim start (boat ramp) were under construction. |

Thanks....the first thing I thought of was those athletes that do this with missing arms and legs....I mean, a broken hand? tttthhhpppppttttt.... I have been cycling and running just fine...swimming is still kinda tough....gonna cut it close! btw, we hit the surf 4 weeks and 3 days from the time I broke my hand, so not sure where you get 8 weeks from? If you could somehow buy me an extra week, I'd appreciate it! |

I assume Moody Gardens is sold out by now. Moody gardens and the place at the water park are both sold out. I'm not familiar with the island but it looks like verywhere else you will have to drive to the start. I booked a room at the Hampton inn |

Champion 7704 Williamston, Michigan | Subject: RE: Galveston Half Iron Man I think I am probably out. Lots of reasons. I JUST moved to Texas a few weeks ago driving 1400 miles to get here which has really farked up my hip which on a good day is twitchy at best. The race is much further away than I thought and I can't take monday off work so at best I am looking at getting in the car 3:30-4pm all icky and having to drive 6 hours home which I really don't want to do, not to mention who much worse 12 hours in the car total might do to my hip. I know you all are in but I dont really know anyone and will essentially be alone at a race I don't want to do and know I will do poorly in. Doesn't really fall into my category of fun and when you are as slow as I am fun is the only reason to race. I'm going to sleep on it and see how my run goes tomorrow (I was unable to run at all yesterday) and decide but I am pretty sure I am out. |

Extreme Veteran 872 Tx | Subject: RE: Galveston Half Iron Man I asked Moody months ago to put me on a wait list in case any rooms opened up. They called this week and I got a room... I told my friend and he got a room too. So, you guys may want to check it out.
Also, I'll be canceling my room at Inn at the Waterpark... not sure if they'll let me transfer it to someone, but PM me if you're interested. I'll hold on to it for a few days. |

Have you thought about volunteering for Galveston? Perhaps just on Sat for the Sprint? That way you could take your time driving back, you could support the other participants, and you may just find something that reminds you of why you love this sport. Just an idea. |

That way you could take your time driving back, you could support the other participants, and you may just find something that reminds you of why you love this sport. Just an idea. Thats a great thought but I just don't want to spend a total of 12 hours in the car in a couple days. Thats what got my hip all fired up in the first place. I had a stress fracture in it a few years ago and I don't want to go down that path again. The ultimate goal is IMFL in Nov. I'm still getting used to things here. My town is very nice but its also remote. I realize a 6 hour drive is like going to walmart for Texans but if I have to travel that far I might as well fly somewhere. I've been plagued with injuries for years and most of the time I just suck it up and soldier forward but I am going thru a difficult personal transition right now and I don't need my hobby stressing me out. My head would not be in the game and I know from previous experience that is the kiss of death. |

Master 1410 White Plains NY | Subject: RE: Galveston Half Iron Man Wow just found this thread! What wheels are people running for the race? I have an 808 rear/404 front setup....not sure how smart that would be if there is a crosswind on race day. Good luck with the final 2.5 weeks before race day! We just got 1-2 inches of snow last night, so I am looking forward to some WARM weather finally! |

In looking at pics online from previous races, I don't see too many disc's out there.....doesn't help you to answer your question fully, I realize, but there were some on the course. best of luck y'all.....see you in 17 days. I'll be riding a red/black 2008 Fuji Aloha....with a bright orange mizuno shirt. When you pass me, give me some motivation....I'mma need it. |
