Shout out to Kyle Garlett, who had the heart transplant four years ago.  Even though he had to pull out of the race, what an inspiration!

Had to go out for a couple hours... what have I missed? Any word yet on what happened to Chrissie?

Chrissies sick.

4 other British women in the top 10 sans Chrissie.  Hoping it stays that way.

Crowie 8 min down. Raelert, Lieto, Vanhoenacker look like they might be in a war. Add Llanos to the equation, too.

ETA: Dibens looks perfect. Just perfect. And what gear is Caroline Steffans pushing?  Her cadence is 62-ish. Wow.

i may be wrong, but 8mins seems like an eternity...... hopefully they don't start laying it down and pulling the gap.

The lead women look insane fast on the bike. It's amazing to see them all push so hard on the bike knowing they still have to run that far.

It's on the edge. Crowie is a 2:42 guy, could go 2:37 if pushed according to his camp. Lieto is a 2:53 guy, but some of the others are faster. But there's heat. Should make for an interesting run.

It is an eternity, but he overcame it last year.  OTOH, people are saying that Lieto is a faster runner this year.  And some other guys at the front are also fast runners.  I don't think Crowie will run them all down this year.

last year crowie was down 12 min to lieto....

last year crowie ran a 2:48 lets see what this year brings.  lieto will have to run at least a 2:55 or less...

At this point I think the real competition will be Raelert.  He is only about 4:15 down of Lieto.  Hopefully he is wearing himself out trying to keep the gap relatively small.

Are we all pulling for Lieto here?

At this point I don't see Carfae running down Dibbins.

I'm a Lieto fan so I hope he hangs on.  Not sure the lead will be enough.  A lot of faster runners are within striking distance.  Depends how much the run focus has helped.

I do.  I think she has a very good chance, even 10 minutes behind Dibens.

I'm pulling for him, I hope he hops off the bike and runs a 2:49 or better...not likely though!

Mirinda will run down Julie, short of an explosion.

Today's winner?  K-Swiss. Lieto and Dibens...very nice athlete selection.

ETA: Pavement temp 124.6. Hoping Bryan, Brian, and Alaina navigate that minefield smoothly.

this sounds brutal:

"The pavement temperature out on the Queen K is 120 degrees (48 C) at this point. If you can ride along the white line of the road you can enjoy about 12 degrees less. There's a strong cross wind of about 10 to 12 knots, we're told by our spotters."
