I don't understand why people train in jammers. If you actually spend a decent amount of time in a pool, you know chlorine turns your suits see through. Jammers are also "racing" suits. Or at least they were when they first came out and our coaches had us buy a pair.

I train in a speedo with a mesh drag suit over it.  The drag suit makes me work harder and doesn't cause me to alter my form. I wear it a) out of habit since my coaches had me buy them when I swam USS and b) because I don't care about the condition of my speedo underneath. My speedos however have deteriorated to the point where my only remaining one is a water polo speedo, which amazingly is still black.

Chlorine doesn't eat jammers made from polyester.  I wore a pair for for a year and a half before some of the stitching started to let go - the material itself was as good as new.

roserc - 2010-11-20 4:43 PM Board shorts until I left my cell phone in my pocket for a 30 min swim. Now I wear speedo jammers....I do notice less drag....

There is a lot less drag.   In my case it is as much as 6-7 seconds/100.

But for practice purposes I'm just wearing something that isn't going to wear out.  My board shorts are indestructible.

Chlorine will eat Lycra in a matter of months.  Some people find Lycra to be a bit more comfortable, personally it makes no difference.  I think that about covers it...
