Royal(PITA) 14270 West Chester, Ohio | Subject: RE: June Battle of the Triathlon Sports Challenge bodhi_girl - 2011-06-03 9:16 PM Holy moly that is quite the story! Yes, I would think the grapevine effect at the office would have an impact on whether or not this crazy person is contacted. I hope for your sake that they would take anything she says (if contacted) with a large grain of salt! Thanks all for the positive feedback on my supervisory reference issue ... The deal is that I work for the City, specifically the Police Service, and it is City mandate for supervisors to NOT give references for past employees ... it is *supposed* to be easy to move laterally and to apply for promotions, supervisors are supposed to support qualified employees moving on and up - however MY supervisor is, unfortunately, a small mean-spirited spiteful woman ... she's worked there 20+ years with virtually no change, and doesn't like people like myself who challenge or threaten her. (As an aside, this particular position is "Team Leader" - NOT a supervisor - my Section is set up weird it's a long story...) I've contacted a past supervisor from another Section (I've been with the Service a long time!) but she can only provide a personal reference ... City policy - current employee applying for a promotion (which this is for me) means contact with their current and immediate "supervisor". Sigh. When HR calls to say they're doing the reference checks - I'm going to explain the situation tactfully and professionally ... just say that I have some privacy concerns about them contacting my Team Lead and would they mind instead contacting the Section Manager? Also as an aside - my Team Lead has a terrible reputation in the Service as she cheated on her husband, a cop, with several other cops including high-ranking management .. it broke up their marriage and she's well known in a negative way as it was quite the blow-up - people actually got demoted because of their "indiscretions". So ... hopefully that common gossip will be enough to support my request to HR to contact someone else ... Sigh. It'll work out the way it was supposed to, right?! |

My goal is to swim 5 miles. On another note, how do I go about updating my profile stiff. I've spent the last 10 minutes looking over the site to try and figure it out with no luck! Hi! Welcome to BT! If you check on Settings up above, you should be able to change anything on your profile. If you need to log your workouts, simply click Training on your blog page and it will have everything you need. If you have any questions, we can all help you. Cheers! Thanks OG! Please don't take me up on evidence of that guarantee until at least a year from now, though. Funny, there were things that worked out so miserably in my life--mainly my first two years of college, how the HELL did I pick THAT college in THAT place, etc.--I never did see the point ... for that one, it was about 15 years later. Heh. Now I see not necessarily the gifts in it (although I do see more and more of those) but the gifts that necessarily came from it. |

Melon Presser 52116 | Subject: RE: June Battle of the Triathlon Sports Challenge I got my first swim of the month on! Bad Yanti ... if even the surf piglets are not going out, but are standing on the beach taking the over/under on how long you survive out there ... while I outlasted all predictions, why is it when others (rightfully) see STUPID I see ADVENTURE? I do have one chromosome too many, but apparently I can't blame all my mental defects on that (alone). Okay, on to the important stuff. Surf piglet: |

Master 1887 Brentwood, CA | Subject: RE: June Battle of the Triathlon Sports Challenge Little late, but can I drop in? Its been a while since I've been around here, but could use a little motivation. Current injury and weather have been making it hard to train lately. If it's alright with everyone, I could join the swimmers to even the teams out. Goal would be 15,000 yards.

Glad to see you are getting better. Was it raining up there yesterday? We are looking at three straight days of rain-thunderstorms down here! I was planning on doing an XTERRA trail run yesterday, but woke up to the rain and rolled right back over in bed. |

A swimmer, and a PIGLET! (That's like saying an Officer and a Gentleman, this is a very, very good thing) Please, pretty please can we have him? PLEEEEEZ? Of course, the Crushers welcome all, and the swim 'team' especially so. Where were YOU when I was living in Venice Beach??? Just put your name on the spreadsheet (I'll link it in a following post), your goal, and whatever you've done so far. What's your name? I'm Yanti. Don't let me scare you off. |

BTW...70 degrees around here is like 95 degrees to the rest of you. It never gets warm here. |

Veteran 392 Calgary | Subject: RE: June Battle of the Triathlon Sports Challenge I'm not going to train today, because I'm going to drink with my friends instead. So pbbbttthhhhttttbbbtthhhh there. A close friend lives just a few blocks away, and they have a true 3-hole mini-putt in their back yard. Astroturf, landscaping, the whole works. So a bunch of us girls are having a "fruity slushy drink party" and going to hang out and play putt-putt in the sunshine. WAY better than working out any night. Although I will walk the 5 blocks there and back - back will be twice as long due to the weaving ... I can log that, right? ;-) I promise I will swim tomorrow. It may not be pretty, but it will be done.
