dalessit - 2011-07-09 2:43 PMhad some back issues, and severe calf cramps, lol I ened up losing 5 lbs on the ride today.

That doesn't sound good Tony.

No kidding - don't kill yourself for our sake =) ha ha ha

LOL, ride seemed like a good idea at the time it got hot and there were lots and lots of hills, and I was with guys that were good on hills, where I am not.  If it doesn't kill you it just makes you stronger right?

I think that's how it goes, especially with a group of roadies. Here's my log entry for today:

Pathfinder Duathlon

A little faster than my 11.5 miler two days ago This is a milestone for me, a breakthrough of sorts. My first bike split with an average mph in the 20s! Granted it was fewer than 12 miles and an elevation gain of about thirty feet, but I still did it! Felt like I was gonna barf for about a mile or so around mile 10 until I sat up and rode on the hoods for a couple minutes. Only got passed by one person that I wasn't able to pass back, otherwise I passed several people. Brynn and I were a mixed team (male/female) and I think we were on the podium but just outside the awards - they only gave awards to top 2 teams in each division. That's okay though. Looking back at my log from 2008 (didn't do a race report for some reason - July 13 if you're interested) if I had done that same time today I would have been second in my AG. Brynn and I had individual goals and a team goal - she was to run in the 8's for minutes per mile and I was to average 20+ mph, and our time needed to be better than my time from '08 which was 1:12:45. Unofficially we finished 1:08:00 and hit all of our goals! w00t! Now it's time for a nap ;-)

Ok...

Finally got to enter my details in the spreadsheet. My totals are based on my HIM training plans, so just under 200 miles for the next few weeks.

I had planned a 35-40 mile ride this morning, which would have put me ahead of the game, but I had one mechanical problem after another-- first a flat tire, then a defective inflator, then a bent valve stem. I managed to get just enough air into the tire so that I wasn't riding directly on the rim and then limped home.

I tried holding up my arm like they do in the TdF, but no magic yellow car appeared with a new wheel for me. Bummer.

I'll try to make the miles up on the trainer tonight.

Dang that stinks! Well there's always next time. I remember I was going to go on a group ride a few years ago with some BTers that I had never met in person. The night before I was going to get my stuff ready and saw I had a flat tire. So I changed it, then that tube popped too! Changed to a third tube and it had some kind of manufacturing defect or something, because it failed at one of the seams. By now it's 11PM and I had to leave by like 5AM to get there on time to meet them, didn't have anyone's phone number, so what did I do? Went to Wal-Mart of course! But back then they didn't have tubes with Presta valves (I learned recently that they do now, at least the one by us does) so I couldn't even get them through the hole in the rim. Tired, defeated, and with dirty fingers, I typed up my apology to my BT pals and went to bed. Just one of those days.

I added six miles today.  Took the same out & back I've been using for ages to check my time.  The new shoes (and I didn't fall today, thank you very much) shaved 1:15 off my best ever time.

Isn't it amazing how something so seemingly simple makes you that much more efficient? I can't imagine how the first guys who used these systems in the Tour de France felt against their competitors. Must've been like night and day.

Finished another ride today, lol went out with my 7 year old, we did 7 miles in 52 minutes.

It did give me an excuse to get my new Cross bike out, can't wait for September and cross season to start.

Today is a day off from TdF, so I'm not riding.  But—I got my wife a bike today, she can't wait to hop on and go for a ride.  And her bike has a basket for the dog to ride in, so it's the bomb.

But with the thermometer north of the century mark, we will have to wait until the morning.

I know, I know, pics or it didn't happen:

I guess I'll take it ;-)

Rode an easy 15 with my wife today - it's funny to think that for her it's her longest (and hardest) training ride of the week, while for me it's one of the shortest and easiest! Good job everybody and keep it up!

Got in another quick ride today, doing my first road race on Saturday, so taking it somewhat easy this week.  I've done a bunch of crit's but never a road race, lots and lots of hills, should be interesting.
