As a first timer to Ironman I was blown away with those stats, actually made me a little nervous.
Currently I am around 300k per week. (7k swim / 230k bike / 63k run). No idea what is normal I completed a Try-a-tri and kept training after that. Been going all winter, and since Feb with a personal coach and plan for this race.
Already been up to the course two weekends ago, and the back section of the bike ate me up but then again also had a dehydration issue. Love the run course, excited for that in August.
I hear yeah. I am around the same volume you are, but I think it is more about the time and quality of training you put in rather then distance. If my average bike speed was 21 mph Vs 18 mph, I would be putting in 65 more miles a week for same amount of time (8 hrs ). I am just going to continue and trust the plan I have.
I made a quick map of the bike course and came up with about 7400 feet of climbing. So needless to say I am going to continue to find big hills to do repeat climbing.
