Extreme Veteran ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Finally made it to race week! Who's ready? The next 3 days at work are gonna drag! Looking forward to getting on the road on Thursday and getting down to Galveston, get settled in and relax for a few days leading up to Sunday. I will probably get out on the bike for about an hour on Friday and nice easy 2-3 mile run on Saturday just to keep the energy in check. |

Extreme Veteran ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() I'm sure this is a question that has been asked before many times, but... Will anyone be covering up their bike or bike chain when they drop their bike off on Saturday? I didn't know if the salt would be an issue. Also, do I need to bring my pump on Sunday morning? Thanks in advance for a little piece of mind. |

Extreme Veteran ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() brettboy05 - 2013-04-04 8:41 AM I have not covered my bike the last two years and dont plan to do so this year. Some will cover their seat and bars from the moisture in the air, but I dont think it is necessary. I just make sure I give the bike a good cleaning when I get home. I normally take my pump with me but there will be plenty of people there with a pump if you want to borrow one, or the onsite bike tech will have air as well I'm sure this is a question that has been asked before many times, but... Will anyone be covering up their bike or bike chain when they drop their bike off on Saturday? I didn't know if the salt would be an issue. Also, do I need to bring my pump on Sunday morning? Thanks in advance for a little piece of mind. No need to cover anything on the bike. every time you ride and sweat that causes more damage than leaving your bike overnight. There is usually a bike mechanic tent you can go to to pump your tires but sometimes there can be a line. You can also always ask to borrownone from somebody nearby in transition that brought a pump. Usually its not a problem to borrow someones but if you want total piece of mind You could just bring yours. Of course, that means people will be asking you to borrow your pump. ![]() |

Master ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Bib #1537 here. M35-39, wave #13 at 0800. Kind of hoping for a 5:10-5:20 type of race, but not sure how i'll do based on my limited training since ultra season finished in late Feb. We'll see how it goes. The first race of the season is always a mulligan, right?? |

I was hoping for a sub 5:20 goal but longer work commute and getting sick 3 times over the winter shelved that plan. No time goals this year...#889 this year on the wave right behind you.Since its slow here in the office today and we are now less that 2 weeks away .. lets have some fun Bib# 761 Male 40-44 Swim wave #7 at 7:30 3rd time racing Galveston .. 5:13 is my best time, hoping to knock that down in the 5:0x this year.. How about the rest of you? Lets see who our AG competition is Edited by m2tx 2013-04-06 10:01 PM |

Regular ![]() ![]() | ![]() Was looking for 5:45 but blew up on the run and walked it in with a 6:04. 44 swim, 2:46 bike, 2:22 run!! Felt like crap the entire run. Oh well, was a good bike split for me the rest sucked. |

Master ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Close to my goal. 5:17 here. 39 swim, 2:37 bike and 1:52 run. that second loop was brutal as the day warmed up! |

Extreme Veteran ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Weather conditions were as good as they get in Galveston although the wind did throw me for a loop as it wasn't the regular tailwind on the way back in on the bike. Disappointed in my 33:00 swim but happy with my dialed down 2:27 bike, and really happy with my 1:33 run for a 4:39. Early fitness test done, now it's an 11 week push for IMCDA. |

Extreme Veteran ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Not a bad day for me, although one of these days I will learn how to pace my runs better. 5:06:34 total time, so my hopes for a 5:0X were pretty much spot on. Sporting a pretty good sunburn today. Guess I shouldnt have ignored the nice girl offering sunscreen when I left T2 33:37 swim 2:33:18 bike 1:53:12 run

Extreme Veteran ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() I missed sub-5 by 11 seconds. Had I known I was going to cut it that close I would have done something 11 seconds faster. |

Regular ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Alright, since it seems everyone posting times are HIM veterans...I'll be the first to post a first time HIM finish time for a female, 35-40. I had said I would be pleased with anything under 7 hrs...I was 6:36:34. Learned a tremendous amount and cannot wait to do better next race. My swim was 41:59, bike was 3:09:22, run was 2:35 (my biggest disappointment). I've been told time and time again that the run makes or breaks your race...it certainly did for me and I'll be working all spring/summer to improve that area...which means more biking too! I really enjoyed race atmosphere (although i dont think i could have prepared for the heat...just hasn't been warm in NWA) if any of you on here had spectators out cheering us on, please THANK them from the bottom of my heart...they made my day. Dogs too!I have an oly distance in may, a weird more than a sprint, not quite an oly in June, a sprint in July, an oly in August, Redman Half, sprint in oct, and my "A" race Dec 1 in Cozumel.Best of luck to all competitors in your race season and thanks for entertaining my random questions!Tammy |

New user ![]() | ![]() This was my first HIM, and i think i picked a great course. I finished with a 5:20; 32 swim, 2:55 bike, 1:40 run. I was hoping for a 27-28 swim, i swam competitively in high school, but the dark water and chaos of it all threw me for a loop. I felt fast on the bike, however i really have no reference for what fast should be and i didn't have the best gear so there id definitely room to improve there. The bike course was gorgeous though. I had a blast through the entire race and am looking forward to a better second race. Crazily enough i am considering doing IM Louisville which is on my birthday. |

New user ![]() ![]() | ![]() This was my first race and I finished with 7:00.07. Yes, that 7 seconds over 7 hours kills me!! Felt great on the swim and bike. Things went south on the run when I fainted about mile 5. I was told they were going to take me to the medical tent, I said no, jumped up and kept going. All in all I'm pleased. Crossing the finishing line was incredible!!! 41:16 Swim, 3:15.38 Bike, 2:50.50 Run |

![]() | ![]() This was my 3rd HIM and I'm happy to report it was a PR at 5:24:05 Since I started to train with power (roadtrainer.com) this year but I have yet to splurge on a power meter, I'm curious if someone could share their power/watts logs. I'd like to figure out how many watts I managed to do with 2h41m. Thanks |

![]() | ![]() This was my first Ironman 70.3. Although I did not complete in my desired time of 6 hours, I am satisfied with my performance: Swim - 41:17, Bike - 3:07:18, Run - 2:27:21, Overall - 6:22:56. I had a great time on the course. The run was not a cake walk... I broke down at mile 7 and had to run for 4 minutes, walk for 1 min. I wasn't able to train as much in the past three months due to a move and new position that requires I travel, which I think really killed my ability to finish in my desired time. But finishing 22 min over is not a big deal to me. I am already excited for the next 70.3. |

Expert ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Ended up finishing my 3rd HIM with a new PR - 5:22:01 (over 6 min faster than last year's PR). A bit of a surprise as I had about 35% less training 4 months prior to the race due to flu, allergies, change of work location (so 1-1.5 hrs more commuting every day). Swim: 42:04 (PR by 1 minute - expected to be about 2 minutes faster but was only able to average 7,000 yds per MONTH of training the 4 months prior to the race . Not a good swimmer so lack of volume hurt and I know people who swim 7k yards per week! Also, no OWS until a warm-up the day prior to the race). Bike: 2:40:59 (PR by over 8 minutes). I think this was partly due to the tamer winds than the past couple of years but also had better bike fitness going into the race. Got a powermeter last summer and then focused on being more efficient over the winter. Did trainerroad 20-minute Power Accelerator Plan twice with some longer group rides on the weekend. I weigh about 170 lbs and on my Cervelo P3 - I averaged 181 watts (190 watts Normalized Power). My last measured FTP was 218 watts so it was about 83% FTP based on average. I was targeting 180-185 so this was done according to plan. Run: 1:52:05 (slower by 3 minutes from last year's PR). This is where I messed up nutrition. Probably could've used more calories, and was also undertrained. 67 miles per MONTH average on previous 4 months was way too low. Normally would be closer to 90-95. I also added about 30 sec to this run by hitting the porta-john on the run course vs T2 like I did the previous years. I also didn't have anyone to race with after 4 miles. Last year, I was running the whole way with 1-2 other guys and we were trading spots multiple times during the race. I walked every aid station I came to as well - something I typically don't do until closer to the end. Edited by m2tx 2013-04-11 2:56 PM |
