Sounds like I'm in the same boat as a few people when it comes to the swim.  I refuse to let it beat me.  I went out this morning at 6am and did 1100 yards, broken up in 50's and 100's with breaks between.  I'm trying to keep the breaks to 10-15 seconds but sometimes I space a bit and just need to relax.  My biggest thing I noticed today was my breathing.  I need to calm down and get in a good rhythm.  I'm going to take lessons but I want a little bit of time in the pool first to get myself a bit more acclimated so I can at least do a few laps when the instructor needs to see my form.

Love the bike talk too.  I need to go through the buying process so all these ideas are great.

Swimming is tough for people who haven't been doing it since they were kids and I firmly believe having some professional input via coach or instructor is beneficial/key to getting stronger with your swim. Good form is key in swimming and coordinating upper limbs to lower limbs to body isn't something that improves by swimming more. Stroke correction and feedback from a coach helps a lot!! Keep with it though and your endurance will def improve over time!

Yeah same boat,

I did 1200 yds,  felt great,  was doing them 100 yds at a time,  5-10 sec breaks.  I was suprised at how great I felt afterward,  so I jumped on the spin bike for 15 mins just to do it.

I have really been focusing on my breathing too, need the rythem too!

I am definitely going to get the coaching, I just feel like I have to put some time in before then.  Hopefully just enough time to work up some endurance, but not so much time that I ingrain bad habits that I can't break once I am taught the correct ways.

Smith, you and I gotta keep pushing each other with the swim.  Few months we might even surprise ourselves and be somewhat proficient enough not to drown.

Thanks for including me Chris.

I have my eyes set on the half ironman Cozumel 9/22.  I figure I can get there and run the race and then spend the rest of the week relaxing in the sun.

Obviously I plan on training to win, haha, but what do you think are reasonable split times for a person running a 70.3 for the first time?

Today I ran 2.5 miles in 23:00 and rode 7 miles on the bike in 25:00.  Feeling good, planning on getting in the water tomorrow.

no work out for me today.  already got all my lifting in for the week and can't run/bike on my foot right now.  using today as a lazy foam roller/stretching day.  feeling a little better since i taped it last night.

I got 80 mins on the bike and a really easy 3.5 mile run. Only my second brick workout, really just testing my ankle to see how things feel. I must say it felt great.

I'm in the same boat with swim lessons. Enquired about some at the Y the other day but have heard nothing back, not sure what they offer.

I got 3100m in the pool and a 10mile run in today. After that, a few too many beers working on the bike in the garage :P

It's hard to guess something like that. Your first race at a distance can go a lot of different ways. The first go is always a learning experience... I suggest against putting too many goals on it other than to enjoy the experience, learn from it, and finish.

Great job Melissa! I personally think 5k's are the hardest race there is... (maybe short TT's) since it's just sucky from the start

Alright, you're in on our swim resolution too then.  Once one of us gets some lessons I'm sure it will start pushing the others to pick it up too.

I did another swim today because I'm giving my hamstring a break from running and have a short bike planned later tonight.  Just worked on breathing and I'm just blown away at how much of a difference it makes.  I was trying to keep my head in the water as much as possible and inhale/exhale on opposite strokes, took my time, nice smooth strokes, definitely felt better about it all.

Hey Jimmy, welcome to the group!

Do you have any idea what full distance races you are looking at? A lot of IM brand races will already be sold out for 2013, but by no means all of them.

I think that we've got a pretty good sized group, so I'll be closing up.

If anyone wants to join past this point, please send me a message and I'll see what we can do.

Thanks to all you guys that are in!

Alright guys, I'd appreciate if everyone would copy and paste the table below into your training log (check my page if you want to see what I mean) This'll give you quick access to everyone's profile/logs. If anything needs changed on it let me know asap.

Beyond that, I'd like everyone to add everyone else on the list to their friends... you add people by clicking the "+" button beside the friends tab in your logs, then entering the screen name. All this just makes everything down the line easier for all of us

It's a deal. I've been watching a lot of you tube videos and reading up on articles on here to help me out. Obviously no sub for a lesson. But my breathing is pretty good (it helped most when I EXHALED hard and breathed more often). Pretty solid at breathing bilaterally but I need to work on my balance in the water with and arm extended... I always seem to be fighting it.

Congrats on the 5k! I agree with the sentiment that 5k's are pure suck. I'm more nervous to toe the line of a 5k than a marathon...

Finally back home from a long week of travel.
Got in a week with family in FL, which was amazing.
After that i flew back into philly for just under an hour, made it how for a shower and then drove to pittsburgh for the weekend for work.

Now finally back. After a long layoff I'm getting back in the pool this week and slowly being able to run again.

What does everyone have on tap for this week?
