I'm getting cold just thinking about the swim...lol.  I went on the group ride last night here and some people were complaining before we took off about the cooler weather lately.  I put them in their place by saying the water temp I would be swimming in this coming weekend would be lucky to get out of the 50's.  They shut up after that.  Well they also called me a crazy sob, but that's what they all say.  Looks like the weather won't be too bad though.  I just hope that the swim won't be canceled if it gets to low .

If we can believe a forecast, looks like the water temps won't be so bad on Sunday. But this warm-up could mean extra chop, especially for the later waves.

There will be a few of us from the local tri club doing about a half mile swim today. Meeting at the N Beach Oasis at 4:00 for a swim followed by a short run. Feel free to join us. Misery loves company. ;-)

Water was probably about 60 and felt wonderful. Based on current forecasts I'd expect it to stay that way. Bring it on!!!

Was anyone in your group wearing swimming socks?

Yes, two of us wore socks. I wore them and I hated them. Didn't need them either as the water was very comfortable.

Really, I wouldn't wear them unless the water was closer to 50. For me they're just a drag on my kick and feel like anchors.

If it is in the low 60s, it should be fine. I was at Lake Forest beach two weekends ago, and it was low 50s....to cold to swim. Interesting enough, I raced ITU a couple weeks ago, and water temperature was 66.

Gordon_mom and I swam this morning (about 5:30 a.m.). It was a beautiful morning. Water was calm and about 58-59 degrees in Kenosha. The neoprene cap was perfect. Booties... could have gone either way. But I agree, they are like anchors around the feet. The nice thing about the booties was that it kept our feet warm while on the sand.

Looks like race day is going to be just about perfect!!!

I did a short swim in Racine again today and it was 59 and flat.

Also of note is a slight change to the bike course.

It looks like the route change was from 51st/53rd street to the frontage road. The frontage road is in amazingly good shape....basically brand new pavement. The bummer is that the course still take us on Krout (east of the Interstate). That 1/2 - 3/4 mile stretch on Krout is by far the worst section of the course. I know folks comment about Main St coming back (which is in bad shape), but the section on Krout can knock out teeth.

Anyone coming in from the West on I-94, just a heads up......the interstate is CLOSED (yes closed) from Hwy 100 to the zoo interchange. Which means those using I-94 East to 45/894 South will need to find an alternate route. This intersection is closed all weekend.

Thanks to the city of Racine for another great race. This being my second time racing Racine 70.3, I will probably never come back. While the swim was absolutely amazing this year, the bike course took a very serious toll on my neck and back - the roads were completely miserable and made for a very uncomfortable 56 miles. Over the last two year, that's my only real complaint - everything else about this race is first class.

I agree, my only complaint about this race are the roads. I saw a lot of bottles, gels, ect. all over the road. My aerobars came loose and I had to hold them in place so they wouldn't keep moving from me. Next time I'll make sure I tighten them more. Everything else about the race was almost perfect. Great weather, light winds, and great volunteers.

I'll second what mattjsaba said. The bumpy roads were the worst at the worst parts, beginning and end of the race. The last few miles were so painful. I think my rear wheel skewer came loose towards the end. I don't think it affected my ride. My friend lost his behind the seat bottle cage and all his CO2 cartridges. However, everything else was AMAZING. Water was almost perfect. The volunteers were awesome, super friendly and did a great job of supporting the triathletes. The crowd participation helped me push through the race and gave me a few laughs.
I'd totally do it again, but I might want to try door county next year.

The bike course does leave a lot to be desired. In addition to the bumps there are several sections where passing becomes impossible and that gets frustrating.

I will do Racine again though. Just because I live here and in surrounded by the bike course and if I don't do I'm trapped in the house all day. ;-)

I crashed on the bike. Two guys ahead of me crossed wheels and down they went. I couldn't go left or right so head over heels I went at 23 mph.(was averaging over 23 at the time, mile 35ish or so..). Finished the race though. Road rash on my back arms and shoulders pretty good. Helmet is fubar and the bike is getting looked over. I was in the 19 swim wave and all I did was pass people all day. 90% of the time on the bike was like riding in a peloton. Unsafe as far as I'm concerned anyways. Thing that pissed me off the most was neither one of the guys apologized to me for causing a crash. They were more concerned about their bikes than anyone else's well being it seemed. Really wish they would do a different wave system so us faster guys aren't having to pass 1k+ people.(no offense given to slower/older athletes). I understand why they do it the way they do. Also agree the road quality was terrible.

Let me just say that I started out early and had only a few folks passed me on the bike. Regardless of where you start....there are issues. There are men in the younger age group that probably passed me on the bike. But when I look at results, I see that I passed 250 people on the run. I also see a lot of 3 hr + 1/2 marathon's and young guys walking the course that talk about how they busted out a great bike. REALLY? Not to mention the folks in the water that I passed. It's not all about the bike. It's about the entire race and the 2500 people out there doing it. I'm sorry to hear you crashed. But you're not the only one on the course. And what makes triathlon great is that it's for everyone. Not just the young fast bikers who I watch crash and burn on the run.

Great day for the race.....calm waters, little wind, and not that hot/humid. Perfect for a PR! Anyway, the roads were bad and it was probably due to the harsh winter. Roads just buckle in these midwest extreme conditions. To be honest, I really didn't think about road conditions until I realized I was running my tubulars and was just waiting for one of them to pop........thank goodness they did not.

It was the morning of Ironman Newfoundland 70.3, I felt queasy. I didn't want to eat or drink anything. I had a full blown case of the pre-race HEEBEE GEEBEES.
