QuietGirl04 - 2007-01-12 7:00 AM Wow! What a schedule chick! I travel a lot with my job and what I do is look where the closest state park is where I am going. There are always trails to run and it is a new adventure each time. Just don't go running in a new area by yourself. I also take push up bars with me everywhere! My guys make fun of me because of that one!! LOL! I'm going to Washington DC today thru Sunday because of the Holiday weekend. I've never seen the changing of the guard and am very excited to do so. Lots of walking this weekend is on my agenda. My advise to you is to not over stress (though it may be hard looking at all the places you are going). Stop and enjoy the scenery!!! Smiles!

The changing of the guard is SO amazing. I loved all the symbolism behind it, and I just love being at Arlington. It's one of the most peaceful places I've ever been. Definately makes me grateful to people like you who sacrifice so much!! Have a great trip!

-Becky

saw changing of the guard, toured arlington and went through a purse pack of tissues on that trip. very emotional!

what's in a name? so many things... i've been looking through lists of greek and roman and celtic gods and goddesses of mythology to see if there's one that suits us...

so far:

Vertumnus - greek god who had the power to change his shape

Andraste - celtic goddess of victory

Maeldun  - a celtic hero who went on a legendary voyage

Peitho - greek goddess of persuasion

so since we're women looking to change our shape(s), seeking victory on our legendary voyage to triathlete status and sometimes need some persuasion to get off our butts and get movin'... how about we call ourselves,

the VAMPS?

Thanks for the tips. I will definitely be going to Central Park. Unforunately, I only have 3 days in the city and there is sooooo much I want to do - it will be a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity for me.
The most I will be in one place will be in SLC and I am staying with friends in West Jordan. I will acquaint myself with the neighourhood. Another friend there is a runner, and I will ask her to take me out. I will have no car at all the entire time I am in the USA (too scared - we drive on the left side here Down Under) I will be in SLC the weekend on the SLC marathon, but I have commitments each day I am there, too.

The Vamps sounds good for a name.

Have a great weekend everyone.

We've only heard from four members so far on the name, but if we're a democracy, then majority rules???

we are now the group formerly known as marymosc13's group - the vamps!

I had my second swim workout today and ZERO cramps. I went really slow and I drank plenty of water yesterday and this morning. Much better this time.

Conngrats on no swim cramps! YIPPPPEEEEEE! I never thought that the swimiing would be the hardest part of this process. Just another challenge.

I am proud of my self I ran for 20 minutes today at 6 MPH. I did not walk. That is huge and I swear if the snow ever goes away I will do it outside.

I am glad to be back and I like our new name. By the way we went to Playa De Carmen.... OHHH wonderful. The only problem is coming home. Sis not get to train but I did walk every day, so my body is not in total shock to exercise!

Greetings all, I hope you are all doing fabulous.

I am writing to tell you there's a challenge on the table, ladies.

My sister Carol - who is also mentoring a group - suggested that our groups compete to rack up the most total minutes working out during February. Everything would count, walking, yoga, weight training (so logging the time spent will be key) Mosc11's group has already started the smack-talking, so I hope you will get fired up and join in this challenge.

She's offering the member of her group who gets the most minutes during the challenge a $10 gift card to the store of your choice. I'll match that offer to you guys. Not sure what we'll bet each other, maybe a dinner out or babysitting.

If everyone is in, please let me know... challenges can be very motivating - we did one in November and I'm tellin' ya, it can make the difference between getting your workout in and not. Carol won that one, so we need to come out on top this time!

and another thing, i was thinking that you all might like to see the pictures my husband took of my first sprint triathlon - the Danskin - so you could get an idea of what it might be like...

just PM me your offline email and i'll forward you the link.

I just found a tri. that I want to do.  It's June 23, and it's only 15 min. away! The bike course is through an area I rode bikes when I was growing up! Should be fun! If it goes well, there is an Olympic I may give a try just for fun in August, but we'll see how the first goes! Yeaaah!

secret to today's workout - even if you don't feel like working out/running/swimming... get dressed anyway. once you are in your gym clothes/swim suit/running gear, chances are you won't just sit on your a$$! worked for me today.
