Hey Kim did you do the firecracker last year. Sounds like it is a pretty good race. If you did it what can you tell me about it. Might try and do it if my schedules works out.

I did the Firecracker last year. It was my first ever triathlon and I loved it. The lake was pretty choppy on race day and this year they have shortened the swim because of it. It is a fun smaller race and of course in a beautiful setting too. I highly recommend it. This is also the location for the Steelhead Half Ironman.
let me know if your gonna sign up so that we can meet up.

I'm using a Polar S720i heart rate monitor. Does any body know how accurate the calorie burned information is?

Thanks Kim. Will think about it since it is right before my vacation and won't be able to do another race til early a Aug.

Went for a swim today. Think I found out something to help me go a little faster. I have not been pointing my toes which has caused drag. Toes have been pointing down. Once I realized this my times have decreased.

Will go for a run later today to get back into the swing of things.

Lost 2.5lbs this week.

The tenative schedule for me is a marathon May 26th, a 10k June 3rd, sprint tri June 10th. Hopefully a few more tri's in there. That firecracker sounds pretty good Kim, may throw that on the list as well.

Any suggestions on how many sprints to do in a season?

Lifted last evening before going into work, then I did my first spinning class this morning, I know its not like the trainer, but it was a GREAT workout for me.....I LOVED IT!! In the pool tonight.

Got my 32 min run in today . This brings my total calorie burn for the week to 4,258, if the HR monitor can be believed. Down close to 7 pounds for the week, I think maybe my scale was off on Monday, but the Bears are playing tomorrow and I'll probibly get a little of that back. 40 min. swim then 80 mins. on the bike for tomorrow.

Did my second workout today. Ran 4.73 miles in 39 minutes. Felt pretty good. Legs were heavy toward the end. Probably from swimming earlier.

I asked this of people earlier.

Does anybody the new nike+ unit for the nano? I got one before christmas if it has done wonders to motivate me to run more. I would recomend it to you if you were thinking about it. Great to see your workout on a graph to see your pace at different times in your run.

Just curious if anybody else has caught the bug.

Been out of town for work training. The laptop died first day away (just an excuse to get a macbook ) . Just got back into town and was able to check back in. I've been swimming and biking some. The running is my downfall (least favorite of all 3 sports). My first tri is March 31. Looking forward to completing it in less than 1 hour 30 min.

I did my 40 minute swim today and only stoped three times for less than a minute each time. A vast improvement for me. I finally learned to slow down which did the trick, no after swimming constantly for a while I'm looking forward to my speed coming up on its own.

Woo Hoo its official today I'm down 3 pounds. Off day today back at it tomorrow. I do not use the Nike attachment for the I-Pod. I have a Creative Zen V Plus. I did look at it though and almost bought the Nano for it But I wanted the FM receiver in the Zen.

The nike + has really upped my running total. Have a new year resolution that I have to run 50 miles for the month of January of I have to clean all of our bathroom spotless. This is motivation cause I hate to clean them. YUCK!

Up this morning and off the the Y for my swim. yesterday was a rest day.  This gettin up early stuff is for the birds huh?!  Well I just got back a few hours ago from my longest training swim ever.  3000 yrds.  I couldn't believe it.  1hr 10min.  Mike Ricci from D3 multi sports has me swimming my a-s off.  Seriously, I think it's gone.

So I took a rest day and coming out to the pool I was dreading the thought of 3000 yrds. However, I managed it and felt great at the end.  Two things here, 1 - Never underestimate good rest.  A good day off doing nothing can be much more beneficial then over doing it all week.  Give the body time to recoup and you'll come back stronger.  2nd - Swim lessons broken up into different things like 1 x 400, 4 x 150's, 6 x 50's etc... with varying intervals can really make a swim day go by fast.

Keep on tri'ing everybody.

Nice job everyone on the workouts! I'm totally impressed by the swim Tyler!
I did a 40 minute run today and actually ran with out any pain. I am swimming tonight and have another lesson.

I just got an Ipod nano a couple of weeks ago. It is good to hear that the Nike combo thing is motivating. I think I might get one when the weather gets nice again and my runs are outside.

good morning everyone! I use a nano ipod and love it. Congrats buddha on the lbs, pgilger your starting to move right along it sounds like, nice job!

I hit the pool last night and swam for 20 minutes. Again, swimming is hands down going to be the most difficult part of the tri for me. I found out that the pool is a 25m pool ! I have to build up on swimming, so I mixed it up with some back strokes and what not but I DID IT!!

Have court this morning then back to the gym to get a run in (3 Miles) and looking for a spinning class possibly this afternoon.

Still on the hunt for a road bike, nothing yet but looking.

GREAT JOB EVERYONE, this site is really motivating. It truly is nice to hear how everyone else is doing.

Have a great training day.

I probably would have gone with something like this as soon as it came out if I hadn't already went for a Garmin Forerunner 305.  Being a pilot, I love gizmo stuff.  Things with bells a whistle....except on my bike.

Just a stoopid factoid about myself and my 1st year at Tri's.  A whopping 2 yrs ago.  I did my first Tri in a lake in southern NJ.  A sprint.  440 yrd swim.  I did the entire swim backstroke.  I had to keep my head out of the water to constantly breath. A little embarrasing but I still turned out a respectable time.  Over time with time in the pool I got more comfortable and now just get in and go.

What's sort of odd about it for mself is knowing that I grew up with a huge pool in my backyard and spending my summers at the Jersey Shore.  I was a water rat  But that's all body surfing, swimming around head above water & monkeying around. I even SCUBA dive.   When it came time to put my face into the water and go for 10-15 mins that was very tougher then I thought it was going to be.

So once again, it just goes to show that with time and effort it all gets rewarded.  I heard from a friend - "Gotta put those "pennies" into the Tri piggy bank, for that one day when you want to make a withdrawel."

OMG is this thing fun.  I lost my embarassment gene in my dna from chemotherapy, so I thought I put this up there to break up the conversation a little.  Last night my fiance and I had a small dinner party with friends and family.   My college roomate from 16 yrs ago brought over this playstation with a guiter game.  We all thought he was old and crazy trying to hold onto his college days.  When the night wound down, my fiance, my old roommate, his son & found ourselves all "rocky out" with this toy on the playstation.

It's a guiter with a long button where the strings would go.  The song plays and scrolls the notes (buttons) on the tv screen that you have to press in sync with the song.  Kinda like karoke with a guitar.  All the while the song is playing.  Stuff like Kiss, Van Halen, Nirvana, Warrant.

Anyway this thing is a blast!  I figure til I get my bike, I'd post pics of something    Notice the core workout my fingers are getting.   Jonathan, the little kid, is only 4.5 yrs old and really was getting it.

Keep putting the time in at the pool. But if yo get a chance and have the opportunity sometime before your first race I would swim in the open water. Don't know what it is,adrenalin, not being able to see the bottom, getting kicked, but swimming in the open water is totally different. I had trouble getting my breath on all of my tri's i did last year. Sort of like hyperventilating. On a couple I had to do the breaststroke. I need to be a little calmer in the water and try to breath easier. So if you get a chance try an OWS and get use to spotting a target while swimming.

This is excellent advice! An open water swim is essential, especially if you have never done one. You cannot see the bottom of a lake, it might be muddy, sandy or full of seaweed and last but not least....there are waves. On my first tri last year the lake had a chop of 2-3 feet. We all looked at the lake with dread. Once I got in and was kicking around past the first bouy I stopped and treaded to get my bearings...I actually thought I was going to get sea sick...I knew I had to stick my head in and swim or lose my cookies. Pool swimming is great, but nothing compares to an open water swim. When the lake warms up, usually around late june, I try to get out there at least once a week.

Guitar Hero rocks! My 14 year old son is on expert level and I'm not too bad myself, I'm finally doing medium level. It is great game.

Went to the club and ran on the treadmill today. Did another 3.08 mile at a 8:08 pace. Only 18 miles away and 8 day left for my goal of 50 miles in the month of January. After this is over I need to start concentrating on swimming and biking more.

Good job on the run, someday I'll be that fast. I had a 40 minute run today at 11:34 pace.

Does anybody else have a problem with their feet going numb during the run?
