Titles with a flair--how awesome.

Let's see, Gail gave penalty points for negativity--but they were like the points on "Whose Line" and didn't really matter...If we're to get our heads out of the negativity butt-hole we need real penalies..SO, if you say you suck at swiming you get another swim workout Likewise for whatever else we say we suck at. Any comments about being too fat or whatever will require a posted photo of said part so watch the stuff ya say about your azzes ladies!

If you can post pics of scenery from your run or ride, comments about the pool piglets (as Yanti calls them), have favorite running music let us know. We all need to be inspired in different ways. (will spokes be sharing those delicious legs around here?)

Good for you, girlfriend, keeping up my traditions of positivity, scenery, music, etc. Just make sure your penalties don't make this newbie team overtrain!

Hey girl! Rumor has it that you're a new member of our team! Woohoo!

All  righty, we ARE a chatty group-not that I had any doubts about that since I know a few of you from previous challenges

Did a run this morning and decided that in order to keep my laundry going and the housework that is piling up around me that I would forego the yoga class (don't really like yoga ayway) BUT in it's place I did 2 short videos with the stability ball.  If you don't have one, it's worth the few bucks (relatively cheap in comparison to our other tri reated shopping trips).  One of the videos is Karen Voight's BLT (short for butt-legs and tummy) which looks easy but you definitely feel it!  The other one was  a DVD that came with the ball which I had never used before and I've had a ball for several years.  I was familiar with most of the exercises on the disc but found a few new ones.  I'll share ideas with interested parties.  One nice thing about the ball and videos is that you can do it while dinner is in the oven or if you have a sick kid and ned a strength/flexibility work out but can't get out of the house.  So, I have 2 flexibility work outs in for the challenge (did I set a specific goal for the actual number of work outs I intend to do?  I think I was vague about just ADDING them)

General Bunny, ma'am, I know that you're busy right now thinking your bunny brains out, but is there anyway you can post a link to our spreadsheet so we can look at it in awe of our many accomplishments every day, instead of seeing it just the once a week on the leaders' thread?

Man, was that a long sentence or what???

Actually, I am out this challenge round -- this way, you all can continue to post prurient pix of people I actually know (and regularly see live in various states of nakedness) without my feeling creepy!    Feel free to call on me as needed via inspire or PM.

Also, I would appreciate it if everyone would help out Cindy (Cleavitt) this month.  She is new to BT, new to triathlon, and new to the whole concept of challenges.  Last month she was nominally on our team and actually ran 200% of her stated goal, and because she didn't know how to log or to join the team thread, she did it all on her own!  She may need positive encouragement and some instructions, rather than a tough love approach.  Dee thought you all were just the gals to give it to her.  PM and email are the best ways to get her started; I'm not sure she knows how the inspire system works yet.

I'll find Cindy (Cleavitt) too.

I'll probably re-post the titles, since I'm sure the less-chatty of our members might not want to have to read through pages to find it (or even know of its existence).

Yes, she is! Her goal is to follow her training plan.

She doesn't need to post details of it (unless she wants to). So it's just a yes/no goal. (Several people have those.)

Each week, she'll just have to say whether she followed the plan or not.

Everyone please welcome both GailG and CLeavitt to Team 8!

No no no... You're in, GailG.

Your goal is to follow your training plan.

You don't need to post details of it (unless you want to). So it's just a simple yes/no goal. Each week, you'll simply have to say whether you followed the plan or not.

In addition, you will get a meet a whole bunch of wonderful BTers.

And, while you're here, you can become part of the supportive environment that will encourage BTers like Cleavitt. In your PMs to me, you said you wanted for BT to be an encouraging and supportive environment. So why not become the member of a team? That way, you can help BT be the place that you want it to be.

Yes, I thought this was the group for CLeavitt. But Gail - I also think this is the group for YOU.

So, you're in. I'll add your goal (and Cindy's) to the spreadsheet tonight.

Welcome to the Challenge, Gail and Cindy!

Dee

LOL, you are too funny!

For those of you who were NOT on my team last month, here's a not-so- quick background (incl why I am not officially challenged this month), edited from my mentor group posting last Dec.

I'm Gail, racing 40-44 this year in SoCal. Although I didn't consider myself an athlete, I did gymnastics (age 6-12), swimming (12-17), and ice skating (ages 25-35) while growing up, earning fame by claiming I don't like sports where you have to wear pants (see attached). I have never been overweight and get upset when people talk about food as "bad" or themselves as bad for eating it.  I also think everyone should celebrate his or her body and achievements.

I have been watching the Ironman since the early TV coverage but figured for some reason it was like pro football or some other sport where really skilled or crazy people do it and everyone else watches, but then in the late 1990s I heard the actress Alexandra Paul say "taking a year off from acting to train for the Ironman" and thought, hey, people actually TRAIN for that...next time I can take a year off from work, I'll train for the Ironman, which became a joking tag line for a while. At around that time, my sister asked me to do the Boston-NY AIDS ride with her, and although I started able to ride only 10 blocks, in 2000 I did the CA AIDS ride, too, on a 10-year-old, rusty hybrid bike that weighed about 45 lbs, wearing 6-yr-old worn-out Reebok aerobic shoes. I never ran at all, even as a kid, so that kept me DNS for a long time.

In 2005 I was bored, working part-time, and figured that was as close as I'd get to taking a year off. I decided it would be fun to learn open water swimming (was scared of the waves), and a google search led me to the LA triathlon club, where the head coach (re-named by Yanti as Coach Super Yummy Guy) taught me to navigate the 53-degree Pacific surf and to use clipless pedals and aerobars, and ironically introduced me to Alexandra Paul, who is his wife! I also started running and did my first 5k at just under 11min pace.

In 2006 I did a handful of sprint races and trained for the LAOly distance, but no matter how hard I trained I'd end up walking the run about a mile in, so I'd end up FOP swim, MOP bike, and DFL run, every time, and couldn't bear the thought of walking an entire 10k and being passed by 2000 people. Turns out I have chronic exertional compartment syndrome (have suspected that for 10 years, so no real surprise), and I had surgery on both legs in January.  I skipped PT and in March teamed up with Coach SYG again; since then the guy was named coach of the year for developing athletes by the USAT and I do whatever the guy says, every day no fail.  So it is not much of a challenge for me to follow a training plan!

However, having logged every day since my surgery Jan. 2, I am taking Nov. as recovery from logging ... if I can get over the addiction.  Hence my not formally participating in the challenge.

Gail --> Fantastic! You now have TWO goals!

1) Follow the training plan your coach gives you. (Yes/No answer required each week.)
2) Get over your logging addiction by not logging. (Yes/No answer required each week.)

Oh, and I'm adding a THIRD goal for you. Again, this is being done in line with all the PMs you sent me, so I know that this topic is important to you:
3) Help create an encouraging and supportive environment on BT. (Yes/No answer required each week.)

So each week, Gail, your team leader will ask you 3 questions. Each one simply requires a yes or no answer:
a) Have you followed your training plan?
b) Are you curing your addiction by not logging?
c) Have you done something to create an encouraging and supportive environment on BT?

Welcome to Team 8, Gail! You have already paved the way to learning about your new teammates by posting such an informative introduction! Now, and for the rest of the month, I am sure that you want to help your team succeed by achieving each and every one of your three goals!

Dee

WELCOME GAIL AND CINDY!!!!!

I'm reposting the team job descriptions for everyone, with additional assignments for Gail, Cindy, Dee, and Beth. Yay!

In the spirit of Corps, everyone also gets a Marine rank (carefully chosen to sound cool with your title). In the spirit of BT Challenge, feel free to re-title/re-rank/re-frame your job however you like.

And this is a team, so feel free to assume other assistive responsibilities as you see fit. Jokes, pics, and totally random thoughts are always welcome, too.

CLeavitt (Cindy) Private First Class Cindy

Your job is to learn the ropes and consistently report for duty! We're here to help!

gailg (Gail) Brigadier General Underdog

I'm the Doberman (BARK! BITE!); you're the Border Collie (nudge, shepherd). Your job is to make sure the stragglers are in, that everyone feels included, and that we don't overstep the boundaries (do too much or injure ourselves).

DEE01 (Dee) Commander Dee, as in, Commander-in-Chief!

I think you know your job

lastcall2003 (Beth) First Lieutenant Lastcall

I just thought the title was really funny. Lurk. Put in the last word or the last call, especially if it's some race(y) pic or a totally random comment.

BunnyB (Melissa) General Bunny

'Nuff said.

 zipp1 (Judi) Major Negativity Raider

Your job is a lot like Gail's was ... everyone here is a winner for starting on the Challenge. Nobody gets to say they suck, they don't like working out, they don't look good enough, blah, blah, blah. Infractions will be punished with affirmations or some other positive challenge.

MrsUSMC (Terri) Colonel Cheerleader

Your turn to throw, grow, and show the same kind of encouragement you gave and received in October.

Twins_momma (Erin) Lieutenant Life Balance

If you can work, tri, and mother small twins ... we need your continuing observations and wise words about life balance, weight loss, and pretty much anything else!

crabsrule (Brenda) Corporal Cycle Scion

You said you liked cycling--tell us how it's going for you, what you're learning about it, and cycling pics/news/facts/anything.

DeputyDawg (Dee) Captain No Excuses

Here's a dogged dog who lives with the dizzies in a frozen land. If anyone has excuses, it's you ... but you're gonna show (and tell) us all how to get out there and exercise anyway!

mbmoran2 (Brian) Staff Sergeant Swim

With a major swim pledge, you will be the resident swim reporter--we want pool stories, swimming news, etc.

TriAya (Yanti) Sergeant Doberman

I will be patrolling your blogs and making sure you DO sweat it.

szbilicki (Sandi) Major Running Ruler

As Queen of the Marys, you will be our information source regarding long-distance running.

runnerg1rl7 (Laura) First Sergeant Fitness

Having done every sport imaginable and STILL kicking butt, we need your outlook and experience on fitness!

KLynne – Gunnery Sergeant Runner

Being speedy Susan's running mate, you're the expert here on short-course running. Let's hear whatever you got!

Hey gang! I'm home. I PASSED!!

I scored a 90.54% on my exam which far exceeded the minimal 62% required for certification. In fact, the proctor told me that I even exceeded the 86% required for people looking to become certified trainers. He said that if I'm interested in pursuing becoming a trainer to let him know.

Terri - I'll upload the spreadsheet to my web server this weekend and put a link so you guys can check it out. But, for now, I'm going to go take a nap.
