I had such a good swim last night! My goal is to do 20k of just drills which is tedius.

Half way through the workout I wanted to ditch it, but I got a second wind after a guy in the lane next to me gave me a compliment on how smooth I looked in the water. It's from all the drills!

Just when I thought I couldn't do any more, I finished up really strong then went for a run.

I was one of the non-swimmers in the group, but I got 1500 m in today! Now I'm sneezy.

That's a pretty significant swim! I'm impressed - awesome job! Sometimes I get that sneezy thing goin' too...it seems like it happens when it's been a long swim.

I guess I should clarify-- I was one of the Penguins who hadn't yet posted a swim. I'm a pretty comfortable swimmer, although it sometimes frustrates me to remember how many yards I used to be able to do without even thinking about it... where did the energy go?

I got my last swim lesson in today and my instructor was impressed with my improvement! Yea! I know this may not be a huge deal for many, but because I'm new at swimming I was excited to make one full lap without having to stop. The first 25 yards felt so comfortable, which I am not used to when swimming! The last 25 I struggled a little, but made it. So I think each week I'm going to make a goal of adding another 25 yards. So next week hopefully go 75 yards without stopping, then 100. I just left that swim lesson feeling really good and ready to get intensive with swimming for the next two weeks!

Nice work! Let us know if you get the other 5 100's done tonight.

I got 25 mins of swim time in today, so I'm at 1 hour and 20 mins now of my 4 hour goal. I did some timing and stroke counting this time... first time doing so. I'd have to say I'm feeling pretty good about lap times and stroke counts!

I also went and ran 2 miles right after swimming. Just threw on a pair of shorts over my suit and ran on the treadmill. I felt pretty good with that!

How is everyone else doing?

Hey guys,

What a crazy and horribly unproductive weekend. After dealing with an idiot on my ambulance at 2am Saturday morning (idiot because she had a headache for 4 days and waited until then...just as I was falling asleep...to call us) I got up and jogged in the cold drizzle. Decided to cut my overall mileage (I'd planned 3 miles) to just under 2 miles so that I could get home and get some sleep. Then Saturday night the horribly strenuous activity of taking my contacts out caused my to do something to my upper back that was quite painful. Hurt all the way into Sunday so decided to make yesterday my rest day and see how I felt today to do my swim. Some time yesterday my back stopped hurting so went swimming today. Besides the fact that my form sucked and my time was a little laggy, it wasn't too bad. I did manage to swim 600 yards in one shot so that was my longest ever.  My right shoulder is definitely a little angry with me but hopefully it'll be okay by Wednesday (I just realized I'm swimming every other day through Sunday this week!)

Bad news was today was speedo day at the pool...I'm sorry, but if you are over the age of 25 and have more than say 8% body fat or any body hair whatsoever, do not wear a speedo...I was almost scarred for life by this old guy with a pot belly and more hair than Robin Williams in a speedo so tiny it was almost butt floss...it was incentive to try to keep up with him so that I didn't fall behind and have to look at him from that angle, but still! And he was one of 3 guys...1 sharing my lane, and old guy and another offender in the lane next to me. It was like they were swarming me...I'm gonna have nightmares tonight!

Okay just had to share and I know I'm preaching to the choir here on that subject. Those things really should be banned (as should people coming over and talking to me when I'm in the hot tub...today clearly was just annoy Kelley at the Pool day!)

Hope everyone is out getting swims in or other workouts...especially you guys stuck in any of these ice storms I keep reading about...yuck!  Stay safe if you are in the middle of it.

Keep paddlin' penguins!

OH NO!!  We are in LAST place!!!!  Let's get swimming!!!!!

Of course, the other teams were probably sandbagging -- everyone should be at 25% of goal at most, right? -- not sure if we are.  One place says 25%, another says 13%.  Do you know cap'n?

Susan,

Use the top row for now (Individual%), the others will come in later with the Combined determining the winner at the end. (Note, Combined equals the average of the Individual and Team percentages)

Sandbagging, well some have pool closures to deal with the last week or more.  One person is having surgery this week and is doing all they can to meet their goal.

"Week 1" was 9 days or 29% of the month.

I'll be making up for some time in the first week. I was only able to swim twice because of being busy, but I took that into consideration when making my goals. I should be at 50% after this week is over.

I'm going to have to do some tricky organizing. I was going to swim on the 21st, but now am going to the hospital because my dad is having surgery that day. I can get to the pool in the morning at 5:45, but it is a pool I've never been to before and that I have to pay cash ($3) to swim. But I think I can work it out so I don't miss my swim time and can make it to my dad's surgery. I can't really switch swim days because of other stuff I have going on. So hopefully this will all work out and I will be able to meet my goal.

No freaking out. The first week is usually a "get in the swing of things" week. I know I underestimated my time, so I'll be more than able to "make up" anything I missed this week.

And Kelley, I'm trying really hard to not laugh about the speedo butt floss, but I feel your pain. We have that problem where we are as well

Jeni, I hope your dad is going to be okay.

K, it's not over til it's over, right?  Wasn't panicking so much as I hate losing   Of course I'm home tonight w/ a bad stomach rather than getting in my scheduled swim.  Will have to make it up over the weekend.

To clarify, in golf sandbagging means reporting high scores to get a higher handicap so you can win when you play at your usual level, so in this case it would mean underestimating one's goal so as to beat it easily.   I wasn't trash talking my team, just the other teams   We're right where we should be at only 1/4 of the way into the month, the way I look at it.

LOL!

Terri, my dad should be fine. It is a fairly routine surgery. The dr of course notified him of all the things that could go wrong, but then said he has had none of those things happen to any of his patients.
