Pro 4507 Simpsonville, SC | Subject: RE: Rebellious Reindeer Well I changed my signature line to reflect my attempt at the November challenge. But I added a little motivation for this month, too. Yay to all my former challenge mates on Twinsnibbuns. We won! Well actually, they won and pulled me on their sweaty coattails! Pam |

Master 1404 Saratoga Springs, Utah | Subject: RE: Rebellious Reindeer Kathy: Good post. I took a TI class also and had the same issue. I could swim forever using the technique but was not nearly as fast as with the "traditional technique" so gave it up. Joining a masters group was the best thing I did to get faster on the swim. Having a coach right there telling you what to do to get better helped me a lot. Plus the fact that they kick my butt all the time! I swam for 2 weeks with a coach at the masters workouts here and dropped 22 seconds off my PR for 500 yards. Not that it was that impressive to begin with though. Yes and when ever you get the chance to be filmed do it. Seeing what you are doing is a big help over someone telling you. Tuesday our masters group is to be filmed so looking forward to that! |

Yes and when ever you get the chance to be filmed do it. Seeing what you are doing is a big help over someone telling you. Tuesday our masters group is to be filmed so looking forward to that! 22 seconds off 500 is impressive in my book. I've been after sub 20' 1000 yd swim for two years. This year I'm slower than last after taking other lessons last winter and swimming 3x a week. The thing that gets me is after working with this other coach last winter/spring he never pointed out my major flaws to me that most swimmers see in watching me for 2 minutes. I did get filmed and it was very eye opening. They wanted us to do our normal swim not the new stuff..so I'm bad really bad. The good news is there are things to fix so I have hope I can get better. I can swim a long time too but so inefficiently. I want to train smart and improve the most I can and swimming is so much technique.

Champion 23360 Taser-World | Subject: RE: Rebellious Reindeer KathyG - 2007-12-02 7:00 PM I learned a lot a the CAAN Sports clinic today. First I understand how all aspects of swimming interacts and doing one thing wrong/right makes a huge difference on other aspects of my stroke. Secondly so much of what I learned from TI (total immersion) is wrong to being able to swim fast so I have many bad habits to relearn. Here are the key points that I need to work on (ie mostly everything).......... Hi Kathy, Thank you for posting that! I picked up the TI book during the summer. Here's what happened: 1) I have tendonitis in my shoulder. 2) My 500 swim time gained 40 seconds. I'm NOT saying that TI is bad. I just feel that it doesn't work for me. This may be because I tried it on my own, so I may not be understand/practicing the techniques correctly.... I don't know for sure. TI tells you to reach out. I did this, and must have been overextending. The result was enough shoulder pain that I eventually saw a doctor. (I never had the slightest bit of shoulder problems before!) The doctor said I have tendonitis. It's been two months, and the shoulder still hurts. (I'm worried what this challenge will do to me, actually.) And now, I have the issue of trying to figure out how my stroke changed -- and get it back to what it was before. Unfortunately, there is no master's program around here. If I ever see a "good swimmer" at the pool (which hasn't happened yet), I'm going to ask if he/she can look at my stroke. (I'm not holding my breathe for this to happen. It's a pretty quiet town, and "physical activity" is not especially popular.) Thanks for the post! It was very informative! Sounds like this clinic was definitely worth attending! Dee |

I posted a question about this last month. Is Barqhead (Pam) on this team? (I can't remember.) She had some really good advice.... It amounted to the fact that I was just really swimming at the same pace all the time. She suggested doing drills that would force me to pick up the pace. This made sense when I thought about it.... I like to swim 500 yds at a time. I can swim it all day. Which means my time stays the same... But if I mix in some sprints, it'll force me to go faster, and to get used to going faster, etc... Dee |

Dee Actually thats the same advice as another BT super swimmer gave me too... get your long sets in near the beginning, so some drills then do some speed work otherwise you will never get faster. |

My name is Melissa and I live in sunny southern California. I'm a bit late joining the party because I just got back from vacation. I'm new to the tri world, but hope to do my first event in either late 2008 season or early 2009. My goal for this challenge is 4 hours in the pool. I've just recently started swimming again, so I went for time instead of yardage since I'm still working on the basics. Beth - it's great to be on your team, girlfriend!! Melissa!!!!! I'm so happy you are a reindeer, my dear!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! MWAH! |

Pro 4541 A farming town in MN | Subject: RE: Rebellious Reindeer barqhead - 2007-12-01 9:18 AM Hellooo, Reindeer! My name is Pam and I too was on the notorious Twinsnibbins challenge team. But I spent too much time chatting (and working) and not enough time working out. My goal for December is to swim 30,000 yards. I should be able do this since I work at a pool as a lifeguard, swim instructor, and lifeguard instructor. As you can guess from my occupation, I come from a swimming background. Used to be a competitive swimmer from the age of 10-18. My strongest part of triathlon is the bike. My weakness is running, but guess what? I'm injured. I am a married mom of two living in South Carolina. Looking forward to getting to know all of you and having the lingering aroma of chlorine following me wherever I go! Pam Hey Pam! Another 'returning' Twisnibbin. This should be a cool challenge... |

I'll give a better intro later--I've hijacked my hubby's computer and he just walked back into the room... (BUSTED) Welcome 'back.' As you can see, quite a few ex-nibbins on the team... |

Veteran 111 Woodland Park, CO | Subject: RE: Rebellious Reindeer Hey fellow RR's, My name is Doug and I live in the mountains outside of Colorado Springs. We're up here at 8500 feet and we've already had several snows (and there's still snow on the ground)! Last year was my first year in the tri world and I completed 2 sprints and 2 oly's. At my last tri (Pacific Grove) I won a slot to Alcatraz, so I really need the swim focus!! I'm also planning on a HIM this year. I'm a lousy swimmer, but I've come to really enjoy it. Living up here, the closest pool is down the mountain, 15 miles away. It can be a tough drive sometimes because of the snow, so I don't want to hear any excuses about not making it to the pool! |
