Expert 844 | Subject: RE: jesswah's group - CLOSED like a box of fruitcake Ok. I have been taunting them and they are in! Post your goal for number of hours to train next week and they will do the same. They have like 20 people so we will have to figure out a handicap. I have strep throat and I am fat(those are my handicaps). I have not mentioned the bikini thing, but for motivation, anyone with suitable bikini pics should post them immediately |

Subject: RE: jesswah's group - CLOSED like a box of fruitcake Hello everyone in Jesswah's group. Jessi was sweet enough to let me join. Story: Started running religiously 3 years ago when I turned 30. Lost around 35 lbs since and read a mountain of information on running, applied it diligently to my training, and just finished my first marathon last November. As much as I loved running, I wanted more and now I am evolving into a triathlete. I "love" the bike (bought a Cervelo P2 SL) and my running fitness immediately translated into really good bike times, speed and distance. I've swam all my life recreationally, but never swam competitively and I've only implemented swim training this past few weeks. So I need lot's of help, motivation, improvement with the swimming discipline. Family Status: Cue the theme song from 'Married with Children'. Just kidding. Like Al Bundy, I am happily married with two children. Errr... two toddlers to be specific. They give me a run for my money on a daily basis and many times I get frustrated and discouraged because they require a lot of time (and rightfully so) so I find myself trying to juggle two careers, being a good husband, being a great dad, and training to become a competitive marathoner and IronMan. As we all know, it ain't easy! But it's damn worth it. Current training: Right now I am off to an abysmal start trying to follow an Olympic Tri training program, with a Pfitz 18/55 marathon plan wedged in there. So far, this year, I am off to a not-so-good start however I am slowly picking up steam and I just need to remember that it's still early in the year, and more times then not the things that impede my training I am powerless over and therefore I have little to no control. Family issues pop up, the YMCA I use keeps having temp problems, and the gym in my building complex is closing Jan 15th -- this is a snapshot of the obtacles I have had to and still need to hurdle right now. And I will. Oh, and another negative factor I need to overcome is the NorthEast winter weather, as Gator22 knows all too well. 2008 Races In 2008 I have a lot of running races and triathlons I've already signed up and commited to, including a half dozen 5k's, 4-milers, 10k's, 15ks', a spring Marathon, an April sprint tri, a June olympic tri, a July HIM (my first!! Rhode Island!!), and I'm undecided if in October I will go for a marathon BQ attempt or compete in another HIM ... or perhaps, if my body lets me, do both! I wish everyone in the group lots of success in 2008 and commend everyone for choosing to take life by the horns and live a happy, healthy, active lifestyle! |

OK, so my handicap is being sick and having weak butt muscles (g. medius). But I'll shoot for 14 hours next week.

Expert 844 | Subject: RE: jesswah's group - CLOSED like a box of fruitcake Welcome to the group dream chaser!! I have finally seemed to overcome most of my back issue and once the anti-biotics set in for the strep I will be back on the horse. I am shooting for seven hours next week. I have popped in to TRIOK's group and they don't seem to understand the concept....so we may be on our own for a while. Until then, post bikini pics to your heart's content. After all, we do have a "pole dancer" in our group As for NE weather...we had 75 mph winds today but much to my chagrin no houses landed on my ex-wife!! I apologize in advance for offending anyone in the next six months..... |

That sounds like fun. And just in case.... I have a red bikini! Guess I'd better start hitting the core work hard if we all start slacking! I'm also letting one more person in. It's quiet around here, and they asked nicely... though with the bikini challenge, who knows what'll happen! |

Subject: RE: jesswah's group - CLOSED like a box of fruitcake I need to seriously catch up on some training so I am going to lay down the gauntlet and post a goal of 12 hours. If need be, I'll ride the trainer at 5AM every morning. Until the temps start rising and the sun starts staying out later (which isn't for another three months) I gotta start making sacrifices and doing things that I hate doing, like getting up early! Veteran 265 | Subject: RE: jesswah's group - OPEN - taking on a few more Well, since we've only got a few regular posters here (and a challenge!) I've opened up the group again to let in a few more If you are interested in joining: post up a brief bio of yourself, what you're training for, strengths/weaknesses.... and if you are interested, goals for our first week of the challenge with TriOK's group. Goals for the challenge: 1 goal for each of the 3 disciplines! Can be in distance or time, doesn't matter, but we need some way to track progress. I think we should use the same scoring system as TriOK's group. For each discipline you get a score based on % completed, and a bonus for hitting 100%. So for 75% you get 75pts, for 100%+ you get 200pts. Max of 600 pts if you hit all 3 goals. Edited by jesswah 2008-01-09 2:59 PM |

Veteran 265 | Subject: RE: jesswah's group - OPEN - taking on a few more It'll be a weekly thing until we call a truce! Ha ha! The first one will start on Monday (1/14) and will be a week long. We're only posting goals one week at a time, so you can change them for the next week if things aren't going well, or you're easily surpassing the goals you've set. Each week we'll post up out goals for the following week by Sunday night. And no sandbagging!! If your surpassing your goals, and not increasing them for subsequent weeks, they will be raised for you! Not much point in having a goal you can easily achieve - it should still be do-able though. |

Veteran 217 San Diego, CA | Subject: RE: jesswah's group - OPEN - taking on a few more Hi again, I've got a question related to running (but not only to) as follows: Many times, when running outside, when it is hot and humid, I find myself struggling with sweat drops that make it into my eyes. It is really uncomfortable and I had tried to address that by using a hat when I run. In long runs, it seems that the hat gets soaked and yet again I get to feel the impact of a sweat drop and my eye (things get even more complicated when wearing sunglasses - but that is a different topic). So my question is: What tricks (if at all) do you guys use to prevent that from happening when you run for a long distance? Thank you! |

Veteran 265 | Subject: RE: jesswah's group - OPEN - taking on a few more I dunno... I guess my eyebrows usually do a pretty good job to wicking it away. I remember hearing something about vaseline over the eyebrows... but I'm not sure. Did a search on the internet - found the Sweat GUTR. Maybe try that? Looks like a clear rubbery headband designed to channel sweat away so it doesn't drip in your eyes. |

Subject: RE: jesswah's group - OPEN - taking on a few more Hi Gator22. I got just the thing for you: Body Fortress 100% Premium Whey Protein Powder. You can buy a huge canister at Target or Walmart (I prefer target) for around 16 bucks. I have the chocolate flavor powder and I mix it up with skim milk, and it actually tastes good. Granted it's not Nestle's Quick, but honestly - it's pretty damn close. The trick is to shake it really well, you can't just mix it with a spoon - well you can, but then it's comes out super lumpy. My wife has some type of Pampered Chef plastic cup mixer she mixes it in. So pretty much if you just get some type of cup/mixer with a plastic top, shake it up really good in there, then you're good to go. I've been drinking their chocolate shakes for about a year now and I am extremely please with the results, price and taste. Edited by Dream Chaser 2008-01-10 10:34 AM |

Member 76 | Subject: RE: jesswah's group - OPEN - taking on a few more HEY GATOR! The only way I can drink whey is to blend it with other stuff. I don't know what your plan includes, but i mix it with fruit (frozen fruit gives it a bit of a smoothie texture), yogurt, splenda or applesauce to sweeten it up, and a little bit of milk. If you really want to go health nut, you can add flax seed and some uncooked oatmeal, and almond butter. Sounds gross, but its actually pretty good and makes breakfast in a blender for the road. |

Im a little on the slow side. THANK YOU! Hi, You simply need to copy one of the code blocks presented to you on the last page of the ticker designer. Then, go to your goals area (in BT) and make sure you are in HTML mode. (To get into HTML mode, simply click on the HTML icon in the tool bar (next to the ?) - and a new windows should open.) At the end of the text in that window, simply paste the code block you've copied while at ticker designer. Click on update and then save your goals. That's how it worked for me. Hope this helps, Ronen.
