My week has basically been a wash with this stupid bronchial and sinus infection.

Sorry about the Power-Blow. I hope it wasn't pea soup!

Yes, next week will be better!!

Mine's ok -- I've missed the one swim on Sunday and am not sure when it will be made up. Had to rearrange some other stuff; husband home sick with some awful crud so I couldn't quite do what had been planned. I'm fine on running for the week, and biking I'll finish off on Sat. Just don't know when I'm going to find almost 2 hours of swimming. Oh well, maybe next week.

Hi all,

Last week was ok: I hit plan on bike minutes, and was almost double on run minutes (keeping in mind that my "runs" at this point consist of a little bit of running with a lot of recovery walking interspersed).   Swim is the challenge: I was only able to hit the pool twice, and got in 37 mins. out of a planned 120.   Below is the plan for this week; however I already know that swim is likely to be low again; Rachie is ill today, so that knocks today out, and I'll probably have to switch the carpool around this week to accomodate her early day out on Thursday, so that knocks Tuesday out as well.  However, I realized that one of the pools I use has an attached playground, so the girls can play there while I do my laps and then the three of us can hit the whirlpool after.

The Plan:

Sunday: 45 min swim (may substitute a bike trainer ride this PM)

Monday: 25" run (AM), 30" bike (PM)

Tuesday: 45" swim (PM - again, may have to substitue a bike trainer ride)

Wednesday: 30" run,  60" bike, strength

Thursday: day off

Friday: 40" run (AM), 30" swim (PM)

Saturday: 45" bkie, strength, (and hopefully, put in a long swim to make up for earlier in the week!)

How was everyone else's weeK?  I've really appreciated the helpful comments.  After what you all have suggested about training slowly, I've begun applying to my running and yesterday, in the pool, I also tried applying it to the swim.

Looking forward to hearing from the rest of the group.

A very low key week for me on tap!  It's good to take a step back...maybe I can get myself really organized this week   Ok, dreaming.

Monday-:45 min swim (and will be running 8 slow miles with my client)

Tues- 1 hour strength/ 15 min zone 2 run right after weights

Wed - Bike 1 hour zone 2

Thursday - same as tuesday

Friday - swim 1:15 / 3000m; Run 1 hour zone 2

Saturday - Bike 2 hours - 50% in zone 2, avoid 3-5

Sunday - REST!!!!!  Woot.  Looks like I should make some fun plans for Saturday night

Let's see if as a group we can hit 90% of of our workouts!!

My Plan, now that I seem to have gotten over the hump of this bout of lung-crud! I'm looking into HR zones, and will try to work with recommended levels for development.

MONDAY: Ride 60 min + Core Strength

TUESDAY: Swim 45 min + Run 30 min

WEDS: Ride 75 min + Core Strength

THURS: Swim 60 min + Run 40 min + Yoga 1hr 15m

FRIDAY: Core Strength and rest

SAT: Ride 90 min to incl hills + Yoga 1hr 15min

SUNDAY: Swim 45 min hard intervals + Run 45m Race Pace Intervals

Wish me luck!! And good luck to all MimiR-ites!! (like meteorites, but mee-mee-are-ites)!! Thanks for pressing us for accountability, Mimi! Good stuff!

BUMP........sorry, we were slipping precariously close to the bottom of the pile.

So.....let's all answer a question, eh?

What are your TWO fave movies of all time?

Mine would probably be:

It's A Wonderful Life
The Man Who Would Be King

Two?? Just two?  Ok, "Shawshank Redemption" -- Andy's tenacity in getting out and sticking it the corrupt warden are priceless, and the development of the friendship between Andy and Red is a pleasure to watch.  Then "League of Their Own".   Again, the developing friendships between the girls and of course the dynamic between the sisters.  ("Nag!"  "Mule" )

If I had to pick a third, it would be Shawshank tied with a few others, including Never Cry Wolf.
I also really liked the Indian film, Lagaan.

Ok mentor group...throw me a bone here!  what's going on with everyone this week?  you got me worried!!  don't fall off the map   I am hopefully swimming in the morning, if I wake up and feel strong enough...and I asked my coach if I should make up missed workouts or just move on...his words "rest and move on"...so no worries over a few missed workouts.

so what does the weekend bring for everyone???  you know, it takes 3 weeks to form a habit, so keep up the consistent training, and soon it will be habit.  Believe me, getting up at 5:00am requires LOTS of practice for this old gal

1/19: Ride 90min to include hill repeats + Yoga 1:15

1/20: Swim 45min + Run (Fartlek) 45min

1/21: Bike 60 + Run 30 brick

1/22: Swim 45 + Run 40

1/23: Bike 90 + Core Strength

1/24: Swim 30 + Run 30 + Yoga 1:15

1/25: Swim 45 + Treadmill 15 brick + Core

1/26: Bike 90min to include hills repeats

1/27: Run 60 w/ hills

That gets me thru the end of Week Two on Matt Lieto's HIM plan. I will also commit to doing 500 push-ups during this time. May also throw in some jump-rope just for the heck of it (5-10 minutes per is all)

Thanks for having me!!

To sum up my running/tri career:
-11 marathons (#12 in April)
-lots and lots of short races, but I hate hate hate 5Ks and only do them if the field is so small that I think I could place well (I've won two, but in the first one there were only 22 women registered, and the second one there were only 14. My times in each were over 22 minutes, so don't get all excited. The trophies do sit in my office though, to intimidate people!)
-many sprint and oly tris over the last two years
-1 HIM (Musselman, last summer)

Goals:
-IMFL-My mother's first words were "What makes you think you can do that?" Thanks, Mom.
-Get rid of the 8 or so pounds my job change and move added to my behind
-get the elusive BQ, I did it years ago, but have failed in my last three attempts. One was 97 degrees, one I suffered from an injury and ran anyway, and the last was in Disney where the air was swamp like. Excuses excuses...so its on to the Martian Marathon on April 6.

My current training (once i'm recovered from Disney) will look something like this:
Running: four days, following Pfitzingers Mutliple Marathons plan, m/w/f/sat
Swimming: three days, t/w/th with the fakey masters groups that has no coach
Bike: trainer, three days, t/th/sat, with the goal of base building and catching up on the TV shows I've missed (yeah netflix!)
Wts: two days, a circuit that includes some powerbands for swimming improvement and core work.

Heavens, that's ambitious!

What else do you want to know? I like diet coke, alot. I have secret thoughts of dropping triathlon and becoming a competive body builder (pure fantasy!! I'm soft like jello, or maybe a nice down jacket), I hate my bike, well, my axx hates my bike and I hate my axx so we're all even.

Oh, and I missed my run this morning because we had a power outage and I overslept. It also meant no time to pack my lunch (remember the 8 pounds?) but a potential vendor is taking me to lunch today. Lets hope he pushes the liquor while pushing his products. Did I say 8 pounds? Make that 9.

Ok mentor group...throw me a bone here!  what's going on with everyone this week?
you got me worried!!  don't fall off the map

Been slacking a bit this week because it's been amazingly stupid cold. Today the sun's out. It's all the way up to 3 and so I'm hoping to get outside today and make a comeback. We've only had about ten sunny days all winter so far. I'm really sick of indoor training and may hit the road to SoCal soon. I was invited to spend the week in Palm Springs with some VIP types but passed which was very stupid.

I just can't get into swimming. I think I'm going to buy one of those Finis music players and see if that helps.

I committed to a low-cal, low-fat diet for all of January and I've lost ten pounds. I've been counting every calorie and I'm amazed at how easy its been to find foods I like that are low cal. After I got cleared to exercise post-op, I weighed 220 and now I'm down to 189.

I think I'm finally getting faster running and I'm anxious to run a 5K or 10K race to find out where I'm at. Also, I think I'm going to sign up for some local tri races before they fill up.

Hi Kim. Welcome to the group.

Thanks Mr. Breckview!!

Getting into swimming is hard, especially when its cold (9 flippin' degrees, anyone?) but I find my intense desire to swim faster (or at least further) than the guy with the mask and snorkle and huge swim trunks to be a great motivator. That and I pre-paid for pool time.

Hey Kim, you've just described my appearance when at the pool! Just kidding.

Glad you made it into the band. I just PM'd you more about Korea. Definitely would be fun to connect. If you were staying until April 2nd, you could do the Cheonan Duathlon (we'd have to steal a bike for you, though -- maybe one of the forty pound models made over in China).

Again, welcome, and keep me posted as your trip gets closer!

Oh, and I love what your mom said! When I told my family about my first tri, my mom said, "What are you doing THAT for?" And then my brother jumps in with something like "What's your motivation for doing this?" Both had looks on their faces as if they'd just caught me stepping out of a sex-change clinic in Bangkok. My dad didn't say anything at all, so who knows.

Mimir98 - 2008-01-17 6:20 PM

so what does the weekend bring for everyone???  you know, it takes 3 weeks to form a habit, so keep up the consistent training, and soon it will be habit.  Believe me, getting up at 5:00am requires LOTS of practice for this old gal

Old gal???!!!  Even though I'm the "baby" of the group as far as "tri" is concerned, I'm older than you!  And if I can get up at 5:00, so can you!  (Although, getting out of the door and running this AM when it was 29 degrees was pretty tough.  I just need to remember that sensation in a few months, when it's 100+ for weeks on end.  Oh the joys of southern AZ)

Ok, so the weekend:  here's the official, BT plan

Sat: 45" bike.  Plan says do a strength workout, so I'm going to do a hill workout from Spinervals (with serious modifications on the gears).  Strength

Sun: 45" swim.

Mon:  25" run.  I'll be upping the run/walk ratio to 2"/3".   35" Bike: Plan says "efficiency", so I'll do Spinervals 23.0C.

Since it's a long weekend, I"m also going to try to work in extra swimming tomorrow and Monday.  I'm planning on doing an 800 yd swim on Monday (no kick, no pull).  I need to have an estimate for the tri that I'm doing in March and I want to get a preliminary figure now.  We've got another long weekend at the end of Feburary and I plan on doing the same swim then (hopefully with an improved time) and then will submit that figure.

And, last, but definitely not least:    WELCOME KIM!!!

Again, Thanks!

My weekend plan is not very exciting. I'm considering myself in recovery until monday, so I'm doing nothing and eating all the crap I want. Well, I'm preparing a workshop on writing for some angry teachers who think writing belongs only in English class, but nothing physically taxing anyway.

But I swear, monday starts the 11 weeks til Martian Marathon and base building for IM training. Really, I promise. My office is starting an 8 week fitness competition. I know I'm the ringer for the team I end up on even though I'm only going to count my running minutes (trying to be fair). Thats one part of the competition, minutes, the other part is weight loss. We get weighed once a week. Now some of these women could probably lose 15-20 pounds easily in 8 weeks (they have a lot to lose) but I'm hoping to get rid of most of the extra 8 or so. That's where i'm not the ringer, but I also don't expect most of the office to succeed. The first weigh in is monday, I figure I should have rocks in my pockets, or maybe eat some heavy food on sunday. Now where did I put those brownies...
