Im 25 for goodness sakes Im not suppose to be in demand yet!!! Well the stress levels, the pressure, small company in Australia (not internationally though), no back up, difficult boss (but as you can see he really likes me so i can handle that).. plus I like my current career path which has a lot of fun, excitement and opportunities... BUT... the money would be VERY good (not just for my age but for ANYONE), Id be my own boss, some travel, be in a senoir position (working directly for the managing director).... Sigh... how important is money? (knowing I have a lot of debt to take car of at the moment) |

Well thats the thing I took a pay cut to take the job here because of the opportunity and experience I would get... and I liked the boss.... Now my old boss is offering something that would be about 30% more than what HE was paying me.... but I have no idea if I really want to go there again... This is just my own experience (and also "the research"--by the big names in psychology) ... if your basic needs are met (and I do know it's been tight for you), then no amount of money will actually make you happier. However, if you are unable to pay for things like health insurance or good food (or even have a decent emergency savings), then the stress of worry and doing without outweigh the contentment. Will you have any resentment towards the situation if you stay, knowing that promotion is a long ways away? Are there other things you can do for money on the side? If you were not happy at your old workplace, you will not be happy in Round #2 regardless of what you learned or how you grew. Just my immediate thoughts.

Champion 26509 Sydney | Subject: RE: Nibbs XIII People can afford to pay for health insurance? I guess Im lucky the doctor system here is prettty good and accessible (outside of hospitals lets ignore that mess - the public system not private) I dunno Im going to think about it... Im trying to think of who I should talk to about it... and given Im still waiting for the results of my review here (tomorrow is the final step I think)... I just dont want to get 6 months down the track and wish Id taken the money! Money on the side is a bit hard with all the hours I work...plus anything i could do would probably be seen as a conflct of interest with my current job anyway... but I know I can cope with what Im earning... but.... Im sure Im sounding silly... Edited by kaqphin 2008-01-29 11:23 PM |

well said Yanti! I actually got myself in a situation that i had to stay in a job i didn't like because of the pay - not why I left originally, but the golden handcuffs were difficult to break free from in the end, I ended up taking a job far away from home to hopefully meet both the financial and the basic needs, but it has been a long road |
