I follow Liverpool with the blinding loyalty of a puppy and its new owner. But I also know when they are not where they need to be. And outside of the wicked shot from the circle 25 seconds in, Inter looked outplayed, outmached, and just plain out. And barring a miracle (which could happen), they will be out of CL. Explain to me about LeBron and the Reds, I find it difficult to piece the puzzle together. He now has partial investment in New England Sports Ventures (the holding company) that owns majority share in Liverpool. Has Liverpool made a decision in regards to their coach next year? I would have expected them to make Dalgish their permanent coach by now, i know liverpool fans would be debastated if that is not the case. Not yet. With Glazer in Man U, Kroenke in Arsenal, Andy Lerner in Aston Villa, and now a basketball player owns shares in Liverpool, this seems too peculiar. Surely there is an attempt of "Americanizing Football". Really paculiar.. Do you have a problem with other countries investing in Football or just America? |

Champion 15211 Southern Chicago Suburbs, IL | Subject: RE: Any REAL football fans here? So I was at the Fire v Galaxy match on Sunday. End of the match and Leonardo goes down. To everyone in the stadium it looked like he was faking it and trying to delay and stall for time. Well, comes out today he has a torn ACL and will probably be out for the season. Now I kind of feel bad for yelling at him. Kind of. |

I wish referees would flash the yellow a lot more often for faking....If you go down screaming and trashing on the floor and then you get up as soon as the ball is kicked out of bounds and start running like nothing, you should get a yellow. |

I know quite a few liverpool fans that will be extremely upset if he is not named the permanent coach, he has resurrected their season. This upcoming days there are some good matches...Can't wait for that Barca - Mad clash... |

Watched El Classico legs 1 and 2...not impressed...lots of rolling around and moaning, mobbing of the ref and niggling little plays....thought this was the best in the world?....nope. I put money on Moaninho being fired if he persists in playing like that with the Real team....even old Puskas called him out! I think it is a combination of the popularity of futbol increasing in the US plus some european clubs being in financial trouble. Hopefully this new owners understand the tradition that these clubs have. There has been attempts to make football more global. A lot of non-Europeans started to put their money to the local clubs. I am happy with the Americans being enthusiastic in having their way into European football. They probably are the most clever in marketing just like any other businesses they do (e.g. big eared mouse and giant hamburger). But, to my concern is most of these investors do not come from what we called by the "football tradition". They might have ownerships of in other sports clubs, but this is football, the most popular sports in the planet. It has a long cultural relationships between the clubs, players, supporters, and the owners. Anybody who wants to navigate the ship, must understand the currents. I only pray no one would change the name into soccer. All the champions league title he won comes together with two other domestic title. But this seems impossible for him and his team this year. For a man with such ambition that would be a less perfect to his grand achievement. Yet, Real seems does not bother what they won as long they defeat the Catalan. They even "throw" the trophy under the bus! |

In this case, the sport would be commercialized. Thus, it would be made more of an entertainment than a competition. I could not imagine if they somebody make a reality TV show of the players duringa derby like el Clasico for the sake of attracting more viewers and advertisement. Football players are athletes just like those gladiators in the ancient Rome. They are not instant actors. What Roman Abramovich do to Chelsea exemplified how a "semi" European oil tycoon could transform a talented team while at the same time keep the tradition of football in pristine condition. He understood the meaning of having a season ticket for the fans, he want the best for them. On a side note, as far as I know, the only time an Englishman called the game "soccer" is when they talk to an American. |

So...I have seen all 3 of the "El Classico" match ups - er..not impressed....2 games have ended up 10 v 11....every player goes down like they have been hit in the face by a brick or suffered a broken leg...then jump up in 2 mins and run around like spring chickens...the Spanish league is full of whiners, cheats and despots...the King of which is the much acclaimed "Moaninho"...that guy is a tool... The only shining light is Messi..he is head and shoulders the best player in the world....Ronaldo has done very little in the 3 games except shoot free kicks into the wall and stands...( one headed goal is the exception not the rule) Unfortunately we have to suffer 2 more of these... As for Schalke....just awful..but now we know why their keeper Nueur is so highly rated..he gets a lot of practice!....the Manure dominance just shows how poor Inter were...they got hammered by Schalke home and away! |
