Oooh, congrats!  I just checked my logs, and I've already logged in more running miles than I did of all last year (though I wasn't as good at logging last year).

Hehe, I haven't swum since my last tri in August Embarassed

Wow - I love the water.  If the pool was more convenient I would swim 7 days a week.  I just love the feeling of being in the water and how it just surrounds you!!!

I love to swim, but I have an aversion to working out by myself.  If I had a swim buddy, I'd go all the time!

Last summer, the only time I ever swam was when my tri club had group swim workouts in the lake. . . It was like social hour, with an ows in between the socializing!  It almost encouraged everyone to go faster so that you can beat your friends out of the water and continue socializing when you were done swimming.  And also, you could practice drafting and knocking your friends around in the water Tongue out  One time I came out of the workout with a fat lip!

Oh man, I can't wait for the lake to warm up so we can start that up again!

That sounds fun - I only have Lake Erie and I am never swimming there

I swim in Lake Michigan!  I'm pretty sure I'm gonna start growing an extra limb sometime soon Surprised  Oh well, whatever doesn't kill me will make me stronger!!  Maybe I'll sprout some fins. . .

Wouldn't that be awesome for our swim times?  My mom always told me that might happen to me since I spent SO much time in the water...

How much water do you drink per day.  Maybe break it down by how much during workouts, and how much just during the normal day.

Hmm, you know, I have no clue!  Does coffee and tea count as water?  I feel like I'm always drinking something, but it's not always water.  I have a 1/2 liter water bottle I use at the gym. . . I definitely drink at LEAST a 1/2 liter when I lift, but sometimes I refill the waterbottle, so sometimes it's a little more.  And I *think* I drink more when I'm running or biking than when I lift.  I would guess 2L total a day?  More if it's a long run/ride day.  More if coffee/tea counts.

Good point, Missy!  Does the X-large Dunkin Donuts coffee I'm drinking right now count?  I'm actually embarrased to say that there are probably some days that I don't drink ANY water (outside of my workout) until I sit down for dinner.  Then my wife gives me a strange look when I gulp down 3-4 tall glasses of ice water before I sit down.  I'm going to make a concerted effort to drink more... starting TODAY!

It helps that I keep a 1L water bottle on my desk at work, my coffee mug filled with coffee in the morning & tea in the afternoon, and the above-mentioned 1/2 L water bottle in my gym bag.  Plus whatever water I drink at meals!  I just drink to thirst, but I keep liquids always within easy reach of me!

Does beer count?

Yeah, I guess the other thing is that I used to swim 6 days a week when I was on the swim team in high school.  As much as I enjoyed it, I really didn't like smelling like chlorine all the time.  And my hair dried out and was harder to manage (since I have long hair!)
Yes, I wear chlorine like a perfume...no matter how much I wash between swims I can still smell it on my skin.

As far as the hair goes...I make sure that I wet my hair well with fresh water, then I put a little conditioner on...then the swim cap.  I make sure to wash and condition my hair well afterward. Wetting your hair with non-chlorine water helps keep it from soaking up the chemicals as quickly.  The conditioner does this even more so.

I have no places to do an open water swim within at least a 50 mile radius.  So I can honestly say I've never "practiced" and OWS... only raced.  And I kinda like the smell of chlorine and wear it like a badge of honor.  Gives you a feeling of accomplishment the whole day through!

Shoeless - 2010-04-09 11:22 AM Just checking in to tell you that I'm off to my race! The Grizzly Triathlon at the UofM in Missoula. It is the largest-attended pool-swim triathlon in North America. (Trivia I just found out this year.) They have 420 racers, swimming four people per lane (except Elite heats). Also, I had to sub at the schools the last two days. Fortunately it was rest week, so I only missed a mile run. And, organizing a triathlon would be great fun if someone didn't say, "You go ahead and do whatever you need to do, and we'll help you." Then when you do it, they say, "You should have talked to us about that first." Aaaaaaggggghhhh! Happy weekend!

First of all, good luck at your race this weekend Heidi!!!  I'm orignally from Missoula although I mostly grew up in the south.  Still have family there.  It's a great town.

I haven't been too chatty this challenge.  Work has kept me off BT for the most part and weekends/evenings filled with workouts and "stuff."  I'm on track for my running and PT goals, but need a serious kick to get in the pool this weekend.

If not...I might just jump in the pool...I need to bump my swim yardage.
