A buddy of mine was in town on Tuesday and took a video of the swim start location.  He also drove some of the bike course.  Here is the write up and video on his blog:

Jen, It's 5 miles to a loop. Not the most exciting place to ride, but very safe.  Winds can be brutal but that makes up for it being pretty flat.

I hate the cold. I know this weather isn't cold to anyone here from the North, but I.hate.every.minute.of.it. I will be loving that heat at IMTX in May, but training for it in the winter bites. And now I know...no more 'early-ish' season long races for me.

Hello everyone, new to this thread...This will be my first IM so I am anxious to get this under my belt. On a training program also.  I realize this swim will not be wet suit legal, but also am aware that suits are allowed for age groupers (not interested in placing, just finishing) as long as water temp. is below 83.8.  I live in New orleans, which is geographically simialr and last year for New Orleans 70.3, water temp in mid April was about 73.  Anyone have an idea on what water temps to expect arround this time.  Also I have never been to Woodlands, I assume being so close to Houston and the run being a 3 loop course, big crowds are to be expected?

My wild a** guess for water temp would be about 80 degrees.  Air temp at 7am will probably be in the low 70's.  It would be my guesstimation that a wetsuit would make one really hot given those temps.  No freakin' way I would wear a wetsuit if the water temp was near 84.  I got kind of warm at Ironman Florida on the swim when the air temp was 42 and the water temp was around 74 or so.

Where is this "TMS" place in Dallas?  I may be interested in riding there later this spring when I'm there.  Been stuck on the trainer so far - fun, fun!

TMS is the Texas Motor Speedway.  It is closer to Ft. Worth at Rt35W and 114.

That's exaclty what I said last year while preparing for St. George.  Then I went on a few rides with some freinds of mine training for IM Louisville in 100+ degree heat.  Trust me...you did the right thing.  As proof, here I am slushing through another early season IM...

ummm, try moving to Denver after thinking you'd have a nice mild winter in Houston to train.  brrrrrrrr.

I am NOT looking forward to my first 5 AM 20 degree (or colder) run next week.

I did CB&I a few years back and that's the first weekend in May. I thought the water was way too hot for a wetsuit even for the 500M swim. No way would I even consider wearing one for IM.
