Slight change in plans for Thursday. Initially I was to be at the hospital at 6:15 am. My friend and I were going to spend the night up the street from the hospital, because it's a 40 minute drive from her house to mine, then a 45 minute drive from my house to the hospital. That makes for an early morning.

The cardiologists office just called and pushed me back until 10:30. So now we are spending the night in our own houses and I'll get to see the kiddos in the morning. PLUS I can sleep in a little bit, too.

You know how sometime things happen just when you need them to? Sulcus (Shawn) wrote these words to encourage someone and they struck home to me. I just had to share them with you.

I saw this and almost feel like I am eavesdropping but screw it, I also feel like I have to write something.  I don’t know what I can tell you exactly but two things come to mind that I OFTEN lose sight of.
  1.  This is your “me time” so make sure you enjoy it.  This training is supposed to be fun.  Unless a runaway rig takes out the first half of the field, I’m never going to place at a race.  The training has to be mine and the improvements have to be for me.  My wife does support me at my races but that’s it.  My training time is when I get to know myself better, when I get to think and the time I am actually in control for a change. 

 

  1. Take pride in all you’ve done.  Personally, I'm fat, I'm slow, I run all wrong, my knee hurts, I have bad varicose veins that are unsightly and hurt, I have the aquadynamics of a glacier in the pool, I catch more wind on the bike than passes over me and on and on...but, I do something no one else I know in real life does.  It may not seem that way because you know Hilde or are part of this community but you are doing something amazing.  So what if they can’t tell if you’re drowning or swimming, if it’s you pedaling or the wind blowing or if you’re running or walking…you’re still doing it and if they are really watching you instead of focusing on themselves then their opinion means spit.

4 swim sessions
um run, um...


I'm going to a meeting on Feb 8th at the LSS for running a 5K.  Let's see if they can help me make it happen.  LOL
They will have 10 weeks to do it in.

ceilidh - 2011-01-31 8:58 AM I just signed up for a trail HM that happens in April. It is the one I was supposed to do last year but changed it to a road HM instead because of shin splints. There are a bunch of ups and downs in it. It is in Dupont State park and goes past awesome waterfalls. If the weather doesn't suck, it should be fantastic that time of year.

Holy crappola Neal, that's a lot of swim yardage! You practicing for the next Melindy/Neal swim-off?

Can my goals for the month of February be to learn how to cook one handed, eat one handed, and go see my doctor when told to? Oh, and 1 or 2 massage sessions? Pleeeeeease?

Kidding. Actually, I go see my sports med doc tomorrow (tuesday) morning. Hopefully I get some good news. Which may or may not include an intro to therapy sessions for shoulders. I will hopefully be able to set my goals then. I need to get moving again.

Guess what I did today, Gouhlies? I DROVE MY CAR. Yesss! For the first time since I drove myself to the doctor 2 weeks ago, LOL. Went well, although I had to have my daughter scrape the ice off the windshield for me. I wasn't very effective one handed. AND, my son went to school for a half day today. And the plan is for him to go full day tomorrow, with me stopping by to give him a breathing treatment at lunchtime. keep those fingers and toes crossed for us that everything goes as planned tomorrow.
