lonoscurse - 2012-06-21 9:21 PM Good morning TAN!!

Siiiir Cursey, sir.

Does Cursey have a name?  I don't think I have ever heard it.

Sir Cursey do you have a name?  That you are willing to share.

I do.  My name is Marty, and I'm very pleased to meet you!

Hi Marty I am Kate (though you know that)  Nice to meet you!

Tell you a secret.... The people in TAN are a little nuts.

Hi Kate, and I figured that out about the folks in TAN.  That makes it easier to hide in here, as I fit in so well.

Yeah, I know that feeling.  I should probably just stay in here today.

Feeling just a little crazy today?

No, not feeling like playing nicy nice, foot around so you don't feel bad, to people today.  That makes the lightheartedness of TAN a much safer place.

I have noticed that having a thick skin is a bonus around here.

Oh it is not having a thick skin, I don't particularly care what most of these people think of me they do not matter one whit in my world.  Many, however, often get their nose bent out of shape very easily.

What do you guys think about email signature lines at work - that aren't work related?
For example, I just got an email with this as a signature line:

Every time I hear the dirty word 'exercise',
I wash my mouth out with chocolate.

Thoughts?

No, it's her email signature on every email inside or outside of the company.

Totally inappropriate if there were any possibility at all she COULD e-mail outside the company, which is clearly the case.

And considering how large and international your place of employment is, nuh-uh even if it were company-only. I don't care if she's a cafeteria worker ... it's just not appropriate.

Stupid and unprofessional. She doesn't know if the person she is emailing is an athlete or likes to exercise. If so, this sig immediately makes her not liked (which makes her job harder), and if its someone outside the company, also affects the company name in the eyes of the recipient.

Leave personal sigs (even if you think they are obviously a joke or in jest) for your personal email. Keep work email professional and as vanilla as possible.

I agree, but didn't know if I was being too harsh.
I even think this way about stuff like bible verses or inspirational quotes or even then "please think before printing" environmental ones. Why do people feel the need to auto-attach them to emails? Doesn't make any sense to me.

The BEST use of email sig I've ever seen was: "Please excuse the brevity. Sent from my phone"
That one actually worked and was relevant.

The only sig line we are allowed at work is the generic company wide name phone # etc. for this very reason.
