Extreme Veteran 756 Mexico! | Subject: RE: Any REAL football fans here? Bcozican - 2011-04-28 9:25 AM So...I have seen all 3 of the "El Classico" match ups - er..not impressed....2 games have ended up 10 v 11....every player goes down like they have been hit in the face by a brick or suffered a broken leg...then jump up in 2 mins and run around like spring chickens...the Spanish league is full of whiners, cheats and despots...the King of which is the much acclaimed "Moaninho"...that guy is a tool... The only shining light is Messi..he is head and shoulders the best player in the world....Ronaldo has done very little in the 3 games except shoot free kicks into the wall and stands...( one headed goal is the exception not the rule) Unfortunately we have to suffer 2 more of these... As for Schalke....just awful..but now we know why their keeper Nueur is so highly rated..he gets a lot of practice!....the Manure dominance just shows how poor Inter were...they got hammered by Schalke home and away! I think that is how derbys are played. trying to win an edge anywhere possible makes for a dirty game. Barca is NOT at the top of its game and I doubt it could really go by Madrid with just football. and Madrid can't beat Barca with ONLY football. thats why we have such dirty games. and the Mou word game with Pep.... |

Many missed opportunities by RSL. And the one mistake they made they paid for it. I can only imagine Monterrey bunkered in the second half if it stayed that way. And it probably didn't help that RSL was without their captain due to yellows. Aye. RSL played very well IMO. just didn't hit the net... this is the Monterrey I like to see. I was very disappointed. It got chippy for a while, but from the match report, looks like it may have calmed down a bit in the second half. Monterrey played well. I'm not happy about it but they played with class. Good luck in Japan. |

I think it is a combination of the popularity of futbol increasing in the US plus some european clubs being in financial trouble. Hopefully this new owners understand the tradition that these clubs have. There has been attempts to make football more global. A lot of non-Europeans started to put their money to the local clubs. I am happy with the Americans being enthusiastic in having their way into European football. They probably are the most clever in marketing just like any other businesses they do (e.g. big eared mouse and giant hamburger). But, to my concern is most of these investors do not come from what we called by the "football tradition". They might have ownerships of in other sports clubs, but this is football, the most popular sports in the planet. It has a long cultural relationships between the clubs, players, supporters, and the owners. Anybody who wants to navigate the ship, must understand the currents. I only pray no one would change the name into soccer. Bcozican - 2011-04-22 3:42 AM Watched El Classico legs 1 and 2...not impressed...lots of rolling around and moaning, mobbing of the ref and niggling little plays....thought this was the best in the world?....nope. I put money on Moaninho being fired if he persists in playing like that with the Real team....even old Puskas called him out! Interesting to see how Mourinho decide after this season. All the champions league title he won comes together with two other domestic title. But this seems impossible for him and his team this year. For a man with such ambition that would be a less perfect to his grand achievement. Yet, Real seems does not bother what they won as long they defeat the Catalan. They even "throw" the trophy under the bus! You do realize that America is not the only place to call it Soccer. So do England and Australia. And do you then also have a concern with not coming from a football background when it is a Sheik or a Chinese Business man? sorry Crowny, gonna take you to task on that one....it is absolutely not called Soccer in England, the name is recognised as pertaining to our great sport, but in no way is this a standard in the country of the games creation! Whenever I talk to the boys back home about "Soccer", there comes forth a torrent of abuse about falling into colonial ways!! :-) Just FYI, I would not call it soccer if it was not so confusing for the kids I coach when I talk about football!! :-) |

Expert 1099 Broadlands | Subject: RE: Any REAL football fans here? Crowny - I don't think it's important where the investment comes from, right now we cannot be too fussy, to run a top flight club like Liverpool and make them contenders takes more than a passion for the game/club/supporters etc, unfortunately because of the completely ridiculous money flowing in the sport today club owners have to have financial means well beyond the majority of football fans. I would rather have a financial backer with means and a solid management and playing staff, than be financially restricted and owned by the good 'ol local boys. I do have concerns about the way the clubs are "purchased", Glazer for instance with Manure - he "bought" the club out mostly with loans, which are secured against the club, the rest was from Red Football Ltd (PIK) loans - again these are secured against the club (now owned by hedge funds). I mean, ManUre are doing OK recently, but something happens to offset the delicate financial situation and they are going under, their debts are now huge after Glazer's purchase. (Not that I would be upset if they lost 10 points for going into financial administration) The last couple of muppets who took Liverpool to the brink of financial disaster were just that, Muppets. they could have been from anywhere....hopefully that short period in the clubs history will be swept away in the next few years. Long way of saying, the game globally has moved on from smaller, local owners who love the club to big business, run like a business by people who see the clubs as investments (or toys in some cases) Not the way lots of people would want it to go, but money talks, and when someone can drop $50M on a player who scores once after 730 minutes of play.................'nough said! |

Maybe. 7? 10 just seems like a hell of a lot. Then again, the MLS is a chippy league. Our red card rate right now is ridiculous compared to EPL. So maybe this is an attempt to send a message. |

Before I comment to your series of questions, I would like to make a small remark regarding my last comment of which I was pointing at Leonardo and his merry men and not the German delegation.
Having to watch UEFA final between the Portuguese clubs, I would speculate something magnificent happens to Porto in the next upcoming year.
Yes, we have seen how it was done over 5 years ago, and the saga since then.
However, there are some facts that works against this. For example Atletico Madrid, the team which won last year competition and managed to defeat Inter Milan on the European Super Cup, they failed to persist its winning momentum. There was also Liverpool where they made a surprising comeback on the final in Istanbul a while back, they also failed to repeat their spectacle in the year after.
Yet amidst all the odds, Porto seems to have rose to the top. I think they would make some significant appearance in the Champions League next year, unlike the other Madrid club this year.
Porto already have a manuscript of success in both UEFA and Champions league cup while simultaneously dominating the local competition. Their manager, whom to be likely nicknamed “the One after the Special One”, their star players like Hulk and Falcao would be high in the shopping list of many top European football teams |

Not much play acting or diving this final, then again they didnt need to do it, they totally dominated ManU...It is beautiful to watch Barca play, and that triangle they form with Messi orchestrating the attack. No long passes, no divided balls, everyone touches the ball and goes from side to side. Tell me about it, i was stuck with Fox Sports but with the spanish comments, my sap option wasnt working.
