The rain finally stopped up here in MA earlier in the week - we had 4 days totalling 10+ inches in spots.  (I'm just glad that it was 38 degrees instead of 28 which would have been enough snow to sled off the roof!)  Though we live near a stream, there was never a hint of flooding until yesterday - two days after the rain stopped.  I went into the basement to find 94 gallons of water (yes, I counted the number of times I emptied the shop vac...).  Apparently, the water table had risen underground and water seeped in around the base of the foundation.  I spent most of yesterday cleaning up, only to watch the water come back into the house right behind me.

Long story, short, I'm going to call this week a recovery week.

I did make it out for a short run at lunch today and, despite the injury delay, am on pace to be ready for the season opener in 51 days.

This happened in a rental house we had.  It was on the top of a hill mind you.  Not sure how that all works.  Anyway it ruied a lot of old SUper 8 movies I had of myself as a little guy.  Very depressing.  Our landord had a sump pump installed and then we just left it in and made sure everything was off the floor from that point forward.

Sorry for your pains.  I know how it feels.  We also a family of skunks get under this same house and let one go.  We ended up living in a Motor Home for about three weeks.  The smell even went into the toothpaste; it was so bad.

I was able to flex some time today with my schedule at work and get out for a bike ride in the middle of the day.  It was sweet.  I had a late meeting so I asked if I could take a few hours after lunch to account for the time I would have to stay late.  I was worried the sun would go down before I had a chance to get back.  Missed a swim workout this week, but not to worried about it.

Have a great upcoming weekend everyone.

Ouch.  Our house in Indiana had a leaky basement.  We fought it for years -- French drains, repointing the basement, special paint, etc., etc.  We never really won.

Glad to hear that you're still on track.

Sweet!  I love it when that happens (not the missed workout, the bonus bike ride).

I've been trying to increase my bike volume recently, and a lack of bonus noontime rides has meant 5am trainer rides, which I thought I would dread, but actually I'm enjoying them.

Signed up for my first two races for 2010 yesterday - Charlottesville 10 miler on April 3rd which is our local "big" running race and a Sprint Tri at the end of April in Lynchburg two weeks before the HIM I'm still eying.   My first tri's in seasons past were always in June and generally about a month or so into bike training.  Definitely way ahead of years past, thanks in part to the support of this group!

At my swim earlier this week when I was just about finished, I started chatting with a woman who was about to start her workout and found out that she and her husband were both triathletes.   Anyway, she starting swimming and she was *fast* (fast like if I sprinted all out for a 25, I probably couldn't keep up with her warm-up pace)... checked out a race she and I were both in last year (OLY) and she came like 5th or 6th... and here's the great part... at age *47*... now, that was a motivating moment!

Anyway... my race has now officially begun.  Have a great day, everyone!

Birthday season begins officially today for us.  Our middle son's B-day is today, so no long ride for me.  But as I have a mammoth HIM race-rehearsal workout scheduled for tomorrow, taking it easy today is not at all a bad thing.  Maybe a swim later, but otherwise I'll be babysitting two pork shoulders (he loves bbq) that have already been sitting on my grill since 6am.

Have great weekend everyone.  Sorry to hear about the work and weather stuff Sylvain.  Your weather, too, will improve!

Gotta cook on the grill low and slow!  Can't be beat!

Whole family is coming to Struble trail with me today.  DW will be walking while DS will be on his bike as I run and try to keep up with him.

Have a great weekend everyone!

Glad to hear you are better, Melinda.

I just finished a massive workout.  I'll be with family all day today.  Have a great one everyone.  I'll check in tomorrow.

Stu - I've given up on weight training.  I can't fit it in, and I think it was leading me to injury.  It'll have to wait until after the HIM.  So, that goal is gone.  Core goal will be met by tonight!

Hello, I was lucky enough to get a third run done this week. It's cool (39) but no rain, it did snow earlier but nothing significant. I did a 5 miler (3 mile tempo). It was a great run, no problems with foot. First two tempo miles were at 8:30, I felt comfortable and I also had allot more so I upped pace to 8:05 no problem there either. So maybe in a couple of weeks I can do an LT test.

As for my foot I believe the reason for the injury is I was trying something new, based on articles I have been reading, and I truly believe that I overstretched a tendon or ligament in my arch which was causing the pain. I actualy felt this when I first started trying this new thing but ignored it thinking that it was only because it was new. The feeling wasn't painfull but because I continued this method for longer runs I ended up causing the injury. I should of practiced the new method on short runs only and gradualy increased milage. Anyway I thought I would share my lesson learned with you.

Did my long run this evening  (70 min run; run was about 4 min short).  Ended up about 7.11 miles.  I'll do my swim in the morning or tomorrow evening.  Legs are a bit tired.

Spring Break week.  No work and all play; well maybe some work at home anyway.  Trying to finish up our laundry room cabinets; Fixing some trim and painting.  My son will get most of my attention this week as we go out on our week adventures.  He doesn't like to just sit around, but as long as we also go where daddy can explore as well;  dare I say Tri-Shops. Wink

Have a great week everyone.

That's a good lesson to share.  In my opinion, it is usually not necessary to consciously change running form.  But if you want to do so for some reason, gradually and slowly is best.

Glad you're feeling better!

Results for week 3.  Looks like Spring stuff is starting to give us a run for the money.  I updated those who had updates in their logs and left the rest as is.  Drop me a note if you update.

I felt reasonable good about my week... missed my bike goal b/c too much to do on Saturday which was a killer b/c it was 75 out, but sometimes furniture shopping, shopping for a 65 person fundraiser dinner, and a wedding have to take precedence.  Managed to survive the post St. Paddy's Day festivities though.  Head out of town tomorrow, but have a plan to get some big bike miles in this week if the weather will cooperate.

Happy Monday everyone!

Yes, I also need to remind myself that I'm not 25 and body is not as flexible anymore. So I should stick to what my body can do and accept it.

Hey guys- I'm just checking in to say "hi". I'm still sidelined with the foot injury. I was given the okay to try to swim tonight- but ofcourse I also got hit with a cold- and really can't breathe well.

I'm trying to stay positive, but it's been tough. The weather here was gorgeous all weekend, and I was stuck with my butt in a lawn chair. The positive is that my kids were outside playing from 9 AM to 7 PM on both days!

ST - recover well!

My weight is not going to happen.  My sweet tooth has gotten the better of me lately.  BUT, my 5k pr should be doable this weekend.  Easy runs planned for tomorrow and Wed, then just easy swims or bike rides.

Hope everyone has a good week!

Good morning all.  Hellacious day at work yesterday, so a forced day off for me.  Probably a good thing anyway as it's been a couple of weeks since I had a day off.  Although I didn't get much sleep last night I feel fresher this morning and am looking forward to a long run this afternoon.

I hope everyone has a great week.  Scout, your 5k is this weekend, right?  I've got a race on Saturday.  Anybody else?

Right.  This is the first year for this race.  A friend from the Runners world forums just went through cancer treatment - and thank god she is cancer free now.  She wanted to do something to help the hospital, so she put together this race to raise money.  This is the first year, and in talking to Paulette, the course is supposed to be very flat.  That should mean a pr for me.  Pie in the sky goal is breaking 23.
