I probably got the same look and answer you did, but as long as we keep up with what they are telling us to do, we shall be fine.  I ran 14 miles last week!!!!  I was a little tight and sore Saturday, but otherwise the run felt good.  Up to 16.5 this week!!!!

I do legs a couple times a week and ice when needed at this point.

Half mary end of March here I come . . .

2 sets of 10-15 reps on everything.  6 or 7 different squat variations, all on unstable surfaces.  My balance is horrible which is why I avoid things like Yoga like the plague.  Therapy is sooo frustrating because it's all stability and balance work.  My flexibility has increased ten fold though over the past weeks.

She told me as long as I don't run back to back days I should be okay.  Also told me I pulled back too much on my pace.

rizer22 - 2011-02-07 9:23 AM Week 2 of my actual training plan.  Had a good 4. mile run yesterday, doing my best to keep the HR down, did some squats yesterday, as well.  I felt it this morning though.

For some reason, I only slept about  hours last night.  Still got up at 5:15 to get on the trainer for an hour.  I won't lie though, I wanted to quit every second I was on the trainer.  Thankfully there was extended Super Bowl coverage on Sportscenter this morning.

Will be running my first ever 5K race this coming saturday.  Goal is 25 minutes.

I would be interested in hearing what exercises they make you do, especially the different squats.  I only have a stability ball and weights, but am always looking for variety.

Sure.

First 3 movements were on a bosu ball.  Squats with both feet on the ball (4 count down, pause, 4 count up), same with one foot on and one foot off the ball for each leg making sure the weight was centered over the foot on the ball.  Reverse lunges with one foot on the ball.

Then we used what was essetially a foam roller cut in half.  Making it a long semi circle shape.  Both slow one legged and two legged squats.  We first did this standing on the curved side and then standing on the flat side with the curved side on the floor.

Last was one legged deadlifts on one of these
stability disc

She also prescibed one legged leg presses and glute-hamstring raises for gym work.

I have done a lot of these exercises before, but never not on stable ground and never as slow and controlled as here.

Anything fun on the schedule?

1 Hour 15 Minute ride on the trainer this morning at 5:05 am.  That came way too early again today.  A shot of GU, and some HEED in the water bottle seems to do the trick for me. I also tried reading with the Kindle on the bike.  It actually was not that bad, and it passed time so much quicker than watching TV.  I find myself looking at my Garmin for the time, when watching TV.  So today, I just set alerts on my speed, so I would be notified if I was going too slow. When I finally checked it, I was already 40 minutes in to the ride.

Run tomorrow, off Thursday, Trainer Friday, 5k Race Saturday.

I need to get back to the pool.  I haven;t been swimming.

I have a love/hate relationship with early morning workouts.  Love: Energy it gives me first thing in the AM, that it doesn't take time away from the family because they're still asleep.  Hate:  So damn early.  I like sleep.

I'm a strong cup of coffee and some granola guy before any morning exercise.

On a work related note, did you ever have one of those days where you want to just shake some sense into the vast majority of your employees?  Yeah today is one of those days.

I'm much better at early mornings when the sun rises at 4:30 a.m.

Its tough in the winter just because its so dark.

Although early, I prefer them for part of the reason you stated.  Everyone is still sleeping, no kids running around etc.  After a long day of work, more so in the winter, it's hard to find time at night to work out with getting dinner ready, kids lunches and so on, and then being drained from the day.

In the summer is even better early morning.  Not as hot, and pretty quiet on the roads.

As for wanting to strangle some of the staff in my office, I can relate!!!!  Innocent

Back to work!!

By the way, my mother and "her husband" live in Texas.  They moved from here about 10 years ago to Houston, and are now in Corpus Christi.  I visted Houston once, and I hated the grass, it was too hard!!! ha ha

You should be fine.  Drink a lot of water and if you're prone to bruising easily than you may bruise up a little.

Yes.  The therapist may have to use a lot of pressure with your tighter areas (e.g. using an elbow to get to your piriformis), which will hurt a little while she's doing it but you'll feel much better afterwards.

Also this may sound dumb but get totally naked under the sheet.  I thought everyone knew that, but I recently learned some people keep clothes on.  The massage will work better if the therapist has access to all your skin.

Well, I gotta say, it has only been 2 days, but I am loving the 4am workouts!!!  I now see it as a blessing that my body isn't needing as much sleep because now that I am working I don't want to do anything when I get home.

Gonna do a temp run tomorrow (2.5 miles) and maybe a 10-15 mile bike ride.

Actually Kelly is lying , depending on how tight you are and how much work a particular area needs, you could be very sore for a few days!!!!

I regularly have a 1 hour massage on my calves only . . . I have knots in each that are huge and hard to work out.  They hurt for a few days.

Wanted to mention, since we have a handful of injuries here, Runners World magazine this month had a whole section on common running injuries and what to do about them. Great read.  Includes strength training for each area that is weak.

Its a good hurt (and not as bad as the injury pain).
