Looking forward to trying one of them out. Got 3 IPA's from Hales, Anderson Valley, and Scuttlebutt. I hear you - it has been difficult for me to stay on track as well. What I've done is to try to do what helped me lose the weight last year (track my calories, use my competative side to help me (signing up for challenges, making bets, etc - because the fact that I hate to lose helps me lose, weighing out everything I eat, only putting two beers in the fridge each day so I can't polish off the six pack, etc, If you can get yourself back into the rythum - I think it would help you stay on track. I stretched before and after ,I taped the hideous blistered and raw toe and survived the heat, mosquitos and foot wounds. This can and will be done. Sciatic hurts no more or no less than when I wasn't running. I will run again tonight and prepare my bike for a ride tomorrow. Returning to swimming on Wednesday, no make that Tuesday. First weekend in August I am doing a local tri. Won't be my best but it will be mine. Giddy up Kevin! Cynthia - You are BORN AGAIN HARD! Time and time again, you have impressed me with your toughness and tenacity, and based upon your post above, you are in the process of doing again. Kick some a$$, take it nice and slow, and smile at the gentlemen that you chick as you pass them in your August Tri! |

Expert 4269 | Subject: RE: Beer Drinker Appreciation Society 2 - Closed Originally posted by NeverTri'd Hello everyone. Been getting back to training after my race on the 13th. Took the following Monday off and eased back into it with a swim on Tuesday. Man, my legs were sore after running through the cramping! I felt it all the way into Thursday. Got some pretty good runs and bike rides done though. Off to the pool this morning and then maybe a run this afternoon. Question...I have two weeks of trianing and a taper week until race #2. The run I'm considering today, in addition to my swim, is not on my training plan. I'm beginning to feel like I'm not doing enough on swim days. Do you think adding this run is smart or should I use swim days to rest my legs? I'm currently doing two runs and bike rides per week. Just not sure how hard I should push this early in my training. On another note, have to brag on my oldest daughter. Played our last softball tournament of the season this past weekend. It was the state 8U and we won the bronze division! Awesome time and a great experience for our girls. Hope everyone's doing well! Bill Bill - Most importantly - kudos to your daughter for her accomplishment! Great question about adding a run to your week. I would say that it really depends on your answers to 3 questions: 1) Do your legs feel good? 2) Are you prone to injury? 3) Are you willing to go nice and slow. If you can answer Yes to 1 and 3 and No to 2 - then go for it. You really aren't going to make great gains for your race coming up in 4 weeks, but you will gain some confidence by pushing it just a bit. |

Bill I do it all the time. Your most recent big running week was 11 miles, so adding in a 2 to 4 mile easy run on swim days is a great way to boost mileage without adding too much training stress. Keep it easy, and you probably won't have too many issues. Really good run. 3.5 at just under 8:30 pace. May only do this one and strength train after my other swim later this week. Thanks for your input! |

Yes, I'm injury prone and no, I can't go slow. Good run though! My wife always nags me about many things. (I'm talking about my training) Not following the 10% rule, Not running slow enough, Not taking enough water, Not taking walk breaks etc. Too stubborn for my own good. I plan to add a strength workout on my next swim day instead of run. Also, hope to get some open water time in this weekend and early next week. Heading to Florida with the family for a few days. Can't wait! |

Baby, Graduating, Working side jobs for income, blah, blah, blah. I hope you will watch that the night before every race and remember how much effort you have put in and how far you have come! Expert 4269 | Subject: RE: Beer Drinker Appreciation Society 2 - Closed I seem to remember someone recently mentioning the importance of taking it easy and listening to your body to avoid injury. Well, I should have listened to that advice My ITB has been sore since Sunday but I decided to test it with a short run. I only made it about 200 yards before I realized that continuing would only make things worse. So I turned around, came home, and iced it. Hopefully, if I baby it, I will be able to get in a short ride tomorrow. If not, I will swim. On a brighter note - I went to Shorts Brewery today Bellaire, MI. Such a great place. I tried 10 new beers. All of which were good. Four were outstanding: an American IPA that tasted of spruce, another American IPA that tasted liked I was licking a pine tree, a thirst quenching pilsner, and a fruit beer in honor of our two biggest fruit beer lovers - Kevin and Thor. Prost! |

I will search out something interesting. Oh, and a few workouts. |
