Haven't seen how close I missed third by but I hope it's several minutes and NOT seconds!!! Full recap to come but race 1 done!

Recap time, make it short and sweet with the good and the bad and maybe some ugly

Got up @530 didn't forget anything so that was a good start.

Got to the park, got warmed up and got in the water to do some swimming. Lets just say even my warmup wasn't feeling all that hot, signs of things to come.

Swim start: We haven't gotten official splits yet but I bombed this and I bombed it bad. I totally freaked in the water and could never regain my composure. I have been swimming 100's in 1:40 pace, 200's in 345 pace and even taking it easy on some distance swims right around a 2:00 100 pace and this isnt even gonna be close. I floated on my back for the first time ever, I was just having a panic attack plain and simple. Add in swimming off course and its gonna be ugly.

Bummed I finally make it too the beach (like 30 yards away from the beach exit I was so off course) and book it to T1, now I decide I am gonna have to crush everything else and big picture the swim is not very much time. So my T1 was pretty darn quick, again dont know official times but I was hustlin.

Bike: Hill, and lots of them. I have 12 gears and a big body and so its an adventure going up and fun coming down! People that have no business passing me pass me going up though (and I say this in the nicest way LOL) but I was moving really well on the straights and down and my bike ride was solid. I caught at least 3 guys in my division and 1 was right up ahead of me as we excited the bike.

T2- Again I think was pretty solid, minus dorking around with my gps, I got in and out fairly quick.

Run- I dont have the #'s yet, and this course was super hilly with a huge hill right out of transition, but......I smoked the run. My wife was about .25-.5 behind me going into the run and she was running 7:50 miles and she never caught me. I got into a good pace and found a guy to basically pace me and we were movin.

Finish- Grabbed a snack and a water and chilled out. Results as far as fnishers started getting posted, I honestly had no idea where id be as I was feeling so good after the run but felt so bad after the swim.

Turns out, 2nd place! sweet! Got my first ever medal and its pretty darn nice. Overall I am happy, but really need to do something about the swim!

Ask and shall receive!

I realize we don't do these for medals or shirts, but I have to hand it to Get 2 It, the medals are pretty nice and the shirts are actually wearable. Big step up over some of the other thing I have seen. On to the pics

Hey! I was there too! Congratulations on the medal!!

I finished the Oly DFL but I did finish my first ever Oly, so I'm ok with that. I forgot how horrible some of those hills are!! I think I'm the only Athena that did the Oly today, so I may have qualified for a medal too but I didn't stick around to get it. Although I think they should have a medal all its own for DFL. I even had a police escort on the last half of my run

Good times

X2 on the medal. While it's not the reason we do it, I love a race that gives out some solid bling! I think for what we pay in registration, we should at least get a solid medal. That one you got is sweet.

Thanks for all the kudos! I definitely feel good about it. I did the sprint last year, and barely finished, so to complete the Oly this year (even DFL) makes me feel like I've come a long way. The cheers were awesome coming across the finish line! Everyone was so supportive!

I am starting to wonder if hills ever start to feel easier though.. or if you just get to a point where you embrace the suck lol

Edit: Results are finally posted!!

So just a very quick break down of overall men in all divisions

My swim time was 37th of 46! I honestly still can't believe it, my new goal will be to conquer the swim

T1- 2nd of 46!!!!! Holy crap I knew I was moving but wow, super happy about that, reading up on transitions at least T1 was huge!

Bike- 28 of 46, I can live with this. Can be faster for sure but hopefully that comes as I drop these last pounds

T2- 33 of 46, oops......note to self, STOP MESSING WITH YOUR IPOD, again I was dorking around with tangled wires and ended up not using it anyways.

Run- 20 of 46, very happy, again for running at the speeds I was going at my current weight I don't think I can complain.

Overall, I am happy with the race. The swim is obviously an issue, just need to get over that mental block. I have been swimming 15:xx 750's in the pool just cruising and not pushing, ended up 19 something here. Looks like some OWS training is in my future.

Glad everyone else had success as well, back to training next week, excited to get back in the water

Wow sounds like everyone had a good race weekend. Gratz to all.

Speaking of races this weekend is my big race. Bad news is my bad was super sore again. Where I could hardly move. I had to get help even to get out of bed. On a side note my girl basically forced me into doing 7 miles of walking this past Sunday and back is not as bad as it was. I am still on focus for marathon training. I am hoping it clears up in time for the race and I am able to get through the bike without much issue. Once I off the bike I know I will finish. I just hope the bike is not hurting so bad I can not bike for 45 min to an hour. Other sad note I was not able to practice turning so race day the first couple of 180s will be tough. I am off Friday so maybe I can do some practice then.

So I was just randomly browsing the internet and ran into this thread

http://forum.slowtwitch.com/forum/Slowtwitch_Forums_C1/Triathlon_Fo...

I never realized that little guys got their panties all in a bunch about this, my first bitter thought as an ex college wrestler was if weight doesn't matter in competition I wonder how theyd like to go a match

For me the end of the day is I use it as training motivation, I know I am never going to compete with a guy thats 150 lbs. We have body weight requirement in wrestling called hydration testing which tells the wrestlers what weight they are allowed to get down to and still be healthy. My lowest healthy weight was around 225, some people are going to have big frames and large bone density. Not sure why some would have any issue with that?

Turns out the type AAA competitive types in any sport get their panties in a wad over just about anything. Even at my lean best, I am not a lean athletic type. I am also not fit for basketball, volleyball, I am not a ballet dancer, a track star, etc. etc. etc. However, I enjoy doing all those things (except the ballet dancing). Those type of threads is why I stopped surfing both BT and slowtwitch or any other site unless I am looking for a very specific thing. I get disheartened. Being an adult onset athlete I have enough baggage of my own creation to let others add their baggage to it.
