I commuted between PA and NE from February until about a month ago

finally made the move and have spent the last month trying to get settled in - it's a long story, but things are looking up

If you can call running a 5k with that many participants RACING.

Crowded races make it challenging.  Just get a good start spot and hold your lead .  Race for the Cure usually has a lot of walkers in it and they never seem to separate out a wave for just walkers.
