I would never have found BT if it werent for Dorothy...she was on this site...not sure of her user name...but I remember coming here and seeing all the talk about her...was really hard for me to see it and think about joining in....the reason my name is girl passing on left is because it was her favorite thing to say....she was a very strong rider and loved to pass guys and say GIRL on your left. I am honored to race with and for her! I will never forget her and will thank her over and over for getting me up and going again! I have always been active...raced mtn bikes for 15+ years, played softball, basketball, volleyball, and played on a coed ultimate team that won 3rd in Germany a few years back....ok 8 years ago! It is great to read about all the different levels of training that people are at... such a great mix. These challenges help me a lot with my consistency! As for the pink jersey, it is now more of a underlayer now that the weather is colder. but I will try to remember to snap a picture I am still experimenting with what kind of layers will work in the rain .... not weigh me down, keep me warm but let me breathe, etc. |

My left outer leg hurts way too much. It is like a pinched nerve type syndrome and when I stop running it actually is painful to lift my leg up to stretch it out unless I stretch my hip flexors first and real good. With all that being said I am leaning towards not stretching my hips enough when I am done riding and am focusing on that. The bothersome part is today it actually aches and it has never been like that before. Trust me on the Athletic part Jules - if I was going around 9-10 min miles I would just back it down. This is painful at my 11 min mile pace and that bothers/worries me! So I am open to all ideas and suggestions. I should probably call the Chiropractor and get cracked to see where that leads me but I not happy right now! I am going to let OWL GIRL evaluate you! personally I say back off on some of your riding/be careful and if you feel it running do back of some on your running, too! CHALLENGE or NO CHALLENGE! ...TAKE LOTS OF ADVIL..ICE...ICE...ICE! and elevate when you can! sure you would like nothing better then to prop those feet up on the desk! hope it is just a sore muscle....I am sending NO MORE OUTER MUSCLE PAIN thoughts your way! you all better now??? seriously, bill...you take care of that...and if you continue to feel it...NO MORE BIKEY AND RUNNY FOR YOU! curious ~~ have you been fitted for your bike? it isnt a bike/pedal issue? I know that when I went in for mine...I thought I was sooooooooo dialed in...NOPE my positioning was awful and once I corrected it - I was amazed at how my neck no longer hurt...my lower back never ached like it did before...just a thought!!!

I was not expecting it to be as windy as it was. 2 miles scheduled for tonight, and it is to be colder, but I don't think any wind. I will probably be on the dreadmill tomorrow, highs in the lower 40's and rain, yuck. Great job everyone getting their runs in. WE ARE TOTALLY GOING TO ROCK THIS CHALLENGE!!! Remember to get the treadmills in now and then Nov 1 run outside Great job and stay warm! I've started making some cold gear purchases. I also have been printing out items I would like for Christmas and handing the pages to my husband. A little frostbite never hurt anyone, right? hoping he has a notebook with all your sheets nicely gathered in it! and you are MUCH tougher then I...If my feet or hands or cold...IM MISERABLE! you go girl! I'm not a fan of cold hands or feet either, especially feet. My daughter is 6 and is great about remembering every little detail. I've been sure to tell her what I would like, too. As a last resort I've also added items to my Amazon wishlist and told him he can go there if he forgets. Cross your fingers that someone pays attention when they're Christmas shopping this year. if not...whats his phone number?? we can call him and remind him for you! |

I didn't see it here. ok...here is my reflection...for my 6000th post! Early November I was fat as a tick...happy and fat and doing lots of movie watching and crafts....and was smoking those nasty cigs!!! then I get a call noone would want to get...my sister n law who was racing with my brother in Florida Ironman...was in grave condition and had just been rushed to the hospital...after 5 days of roller coaster rides...family telling me she moved...no that was just nerves -shes brain dead...she may live...no looks bad!...wait they got some brain movement...then on the 5th final day...her brain swelled and after much unsuccess in surgeries...they donated her organs. My husband and I drove to Texas we celebrated Dorothy's life. I vowed at her funeral to do a triathlon....drove home...tore up my cigarettes and began to train... I signed up for my first triathlon in Moraga and got 4th out of 15 in my AG...I was tickled to get my finisher medal..and immediately held it to the sky and my husband and I embraced and both cried together...was very emotional...but not as emotional as watching my brother race the IM in Arizona last year....he was unable to finish in Florida because he had to go to the hospital...could you imagine being on your bike and having police chase you to tell you your wife is in the hospital..he kept trying to tell them they are wrong it must be someone elses wife!?! My brother Mike called me in January to say he really wanted to do the IMAZ but they were full...I told them they would probably let you in...and he tried and got in...then he called me back and asked me to try and help him book a room...I called the host hotel and they were full..spoke to the manager..and NO GO..full! but being an event planner I know they have a sales department that saves blocks of rooms for their high end clients and regulars...well I called the sales department...told them my brothers story..gave them links to online stories and then asked if they had a few rooms they could spare...within moments she called me back and said she had two rooms...yay! My brother will soon get to go do the IM for both he and Dorothy! as we get closer to the race..my brother calls me again and said he wants to fly my mom and dad out and wanted to see if they could get a room, too...I MEAN REALLY! I love you MIKE but this is ridiculous...but I did call and she did give me one more room...we were a block from the venue and had everything we needed within walking distance. So my daughter works for Active and knows the announcer...he gets us VIP passes and we get a back pack full of IM gear and garb and passes to sit in the area near the finish complete with food and drink....we were tickled pink! my mom, sister, daughter, niece and I had a ball! and at the first of the race...Mike OReilly the announcer is about to start the race....we are trying to find mike among the thousands of swimmers....just then we hear the announcer...say MIKE GRIFFIN...I know you are out there...and have qute a long and arduous adventure....but today...YOU WILL BE AN IRONMAN!...I looked over at my mom whos jaw had dropped and she said did he just say Mike Griffin??? and I said he did! and we both hugged and cried....my brother swam it in 45 min...he was on fire! the bike ride he looked amazing even in the gale force winds...and he ran...and walked...and now my brother is an IRONMAN...and I am sooo proud of him! Sorry for your loss, but happy that you have found some happiness with BT and your own triathlons. thanks Ann! not a day goes by that I dont think of her! she is sooo missed! my brother is a TOTAL mess, still! hoping he can pull it together...soon! I can not imagine going thru what he has though...so I definitely can not point fingers..but I do know he is tearing us up!!!! please keep him in your prayers! he can use them now!!! Will do, for all of you. thanks...lord knows we all could use some prayers! I know I can! so thanks!!!! his name is Mike! |

She posts her gear periodically but you could also try and shoot her an e-mail to see if she replies directly. I bought a Trek clear jacket and it works great except when I wear a backpack and it does not vent at all. To me the key in the rain is fenders to keep a lot of the road water off of you - it can only rain so hard from up above right plus what you wear underneath...dont over do....or you will be all damp from overheating....and that can be miserable! I am going to check this girls gear out! I used to live in Anchorage! Im sure she knows what works!!! |

Julie, this is only a run issue. No problems on the bike at all. In the past it would be sore but I could continue on and just stretch it out at the end - last night I had to stop running from the pain and that is very unusual! If it hurts tonight after being sedentary all day today then I back off the run but I have to give it a shot tonight (I am stubborn like that!) Thanks for the input though! that sux~ advil/ice today! see if that helps! PM Owl girl! maybe she can give some suggestions! she is so busy with her baby she may not read these messages....just looking out for ya! |
